Hahaha, fuck you Messmer, first try you slithery bastard! (at +15/+6 thanks to a certain commander and the treasure trove of Scadutree fragments behind him)

Also apparently there's Finger Ruins? As in more than one? And at least one more area I don't even have the map for yet? And that's with going through the entire Cerulean Coast/Fissure section? How much is in this place?

Some of the locations are really empty though and not much would have been lost by cutting them out, especially when you consider how densely packed a lot of the rest is.

Yeah, but they're stunning Also even the emptiest regions I've been to (the southern parts, mostly) had bosses, secrets, sub-dungeons (one of which is pretty important)... Even with little quantity the quality is there, it doesn't feel like a Mountaintops of the Giants situation IMO

Don't know, one of them had a lot less than mountaintops unless I have missed something.

I think my Senessax issue was that it was so boring that it took far longer than it needed to because I didn't want to spend 10 minutes in a single attempt stabbing his ankles hit and run and got greedy.
Today will be a certain well hidden area, then up to the north west of the map before seeing what suffering awaits me in the final area. I have a feeling I'll end up using ashes for the end boss, but we'll see. I have a... plan in mind.

Did a fair bit of boss action today, a scadutree avatar, tree guys, Commander Gaius who wasn't that bad but I don't see the point of fighting horseback, couple of dragons, dragon god Sennesax.
I think I'm underlevelled for the big fuck after in a massive arena that seems almost unfair that you have to fight on foot.

Oh that's the one I was whining about last night. For what it's worth the summon sign in there is basically almost certainly intended to be used even for idiots like me who don't want to summon: He has voice lines during the fight and infinite HP, and doesn't increase the boss HP like other summons.

The moment I actually tried to go on Torrent against Gaius he pulled an almost instant massive shockwave/rock slide AoE (different from his big jump) that knocked me right off... I don't know if it's an actual reaction move ("Oh you wanted your horse huh? Too fuckin' bad!") or I just got unlucky with his AI, but I sure as hell stayed on foot after that!

What's a decent level to be starting the DLC? I've got MC Hammer at about 150ish, that should be fine right?

The rest is much of a muchness because you'll get a lot more damage bonus from the scadutree fragments than your actual weapon stats past a certain point.

I think the camera makes those 2 dragons far worse than they need to be. And they need name badges, so you know which one you’re supposed to be attacking.

Depends on your build but yeah I get your point as everything hits so hard. My build that beat the final boss was 45 vig but 80 endurance so I could absorb everything plus all the correct talismans.

The keep is the highlight I think. It's an absolute triumph in level design.

My fav is definitely the peak area. I know it’s mostly empty but the whole atmosphere up to the boss! The weather, the music, and the npcs on the way building the atmosphere. Especially the priestess at the start giving you the back story and then finishes with the best boss fight of the whole game with easily the best boss music.

The entire spectacle and presentation of the Divine Beast Dancing Lion is still my favourite of the boss fights so far tbh, but Jagged Peak was definitely quite the beauty, as was the Cerulean Coast and its connected area way down south

For anyone struggling with bosses goring them right out of the gate, there's a Physick tear that significantly negates damage from one hit (lasts for three minutes or until hit), the Opaline Bubbletear. Drink it before you even enter the fog gate and you can call your summon or get your bearings in relative safety (from the opening blow, at least)

My motivation to play this DLC is so low. I adored the main game, but loading this up and getting my arse kicked before I've even got to a boss is way too much like hard work for me atm.

It's a bit cheaty, but you could look up Scadutree fragment locations to get a few that are just lying around and beef yourself up. And then there's always Vigor pumping if you're below, say, 50 (you do need a lot regardless, I'm at 60 atm). Oh, and take off any Scarseal/Soreseal talismans you have on. The extra stats they give help much less at endgame/DLC levels than the damage negation you get back by removing them does, and if you need them to hit a stat requirement it's legitimately better to just grind the levels on the ol' hill

Set myself up a second account for modding and stuff and started my first randomiser run. There was a Mohgwyn Palace monster crow in the tutorial cave. And Soldier of Godrick was replaced by the invisible assassin. We're off to a good start!

Really enjoyed that Romana Saint of the Bud fight. Felt like a good old fashioned souls boss.

I did that one tonight as well. Good boss, as you say felt a bit more classic. Lots of people complaining its too easy but if ER had never happened and she was just a boss in DS3 or something people would be calling her insanely difficult I'm sure.
Into the final area now. I'm pretty sure I've found most of the skibidi fragments up to this point so I guess I'm off to get my arse kicked tomorrow.

I hate some of the bosses in this game, ever so much. They always look great, but they always have these "settle down Beavis" moves where they flail and jump around, and you can't tell which things are actual attacks that you should be dodging. And if you get hit by a single one, there's half your health gone.
It's just irritating to me. I was happy with the challenge level in the original Dark Souls, but I feel like From have tried too hard to please the fanbase who just want the games to get harder and harder. I know I can summon and use spirit ashes and all that, but it would be nice to be able to do this shit on my own.
Yeah yeah, git gud, I know. But I don't have energy or time to spend hours and hours on this, I just want to look at all the pretty new areas and read about the lore and such.

Oh my god, that chakram fucker isn't even a mini boss? It's just a regular enemy? I was so proud when I beat it ;_;

Well, Romina Saint of the Bud was pleasantly straightforward. One go to get my bearings, and then down next time: and I am just terrible at boss fights. I guess I've got to face Messmer at some point (assuming it's him at the top of shadow keep, beyond a door someone helpfully labelled "boss" ) but right now I'm banging my head against Commander Gaius, or rather he's banging his armoured boar against my head. He feels like the toughest in the game so far, at least for my build. I can't seem to cultivate a viable strategy (given he's armoured logically I've reverted to lightning spells and buffs but getting a chance to have a proper go at him is not easy, the jumpy twat ). I've no idea how far in I am but it's fair to say I have a love / hate relationship with this DLC, and it's not just about difficulty but how damn annoying it can be. Some bosses are fun, some are plain irritating especially when they rush you (yes, this has been talked to death but it's true). Exploration can be wonderful but pathfinding can be extremely tedious and random, with the verticality of Dark Souls but all the cleverness and elegance stripped away. I really don't know what the hell I'm doing or where I'm heading, which sometimes leaves me in a zen state as I ride around, and sometimes makes me want to gouge out someone's Shabriri grapes.
