Shields are actually stealth MVP of this expansion, the bubbletear you can get early on that improves last moment guards is actually fucking incredible. It removes all chip damage from a block if you time it right and makes the stamina cost practically zero.

I know what you mean re: the music. It's phenomenal. It's a tough call between this and Bloodborne. Probably joint top with Dark Souls 3 a close second.

I should also add that I farmed for the eclipse greatshield last night and I'm now using that with the talisman. It's nice to go back to shields.
Also. I presume / hope everyone is regularly stocked up on crab meat? I don't go into a fight without having a nibble. +20% physical damage negation for 60 seconds. I never have less than 50 on me.

This makes the boss marginally more acceptable. Amazing seeing some of the attention to detail with the animation, like how one of the attacks has the front guy jumping up on the backside guy's shoulders. Other times, it is funny seeing the guy at the back being flung around. Still a pain to fight though.

I'm not sure how many of us this will apply to, but according to a comment on the wiki (salt grains etc) if you level up your Scadutree/Revered Spirit Ash stuff, go to NG+ and make it back to the DLC, your levels are retained, no need to find what you've already collected all over again

That's actually a good shout. How long is the animation to consume them though? I think my win against that boss last night was nearly 5 minutes. Nice for not getting deleted right outside the door though.

If I take one mid fight it's during a healing opportunity, if you know what I mean.

Can't settle on a weapon. I now seem to be alternating between the Meteroite Ore Greatsword +10 and Milady +25. The greatsword is nice but it's moveset is boring as hell. Milady on the other hand has a fucking brilliant moveset, but isn't as powerful. Also thinking about maxing out those dancer twin blades I just killed a boss to get. The moveset of them is nuts but I'd look like a twit in a full set of armour twirling myself around like that. Hmm. Decisions. Also. Pre-release this was described to be as big as Limgrave. Fuck that. Maybe if you flattened Limgrave out to be two or three times it's size and then dumped another two on top. It's huuuuuuuuuuuge. There's just so much here it's silly. I'm using Milady +25 (with the Lightning Slash Ash of War) simply as it's so damn enjoyable to use. I'm not even primarily strength or dex but rather faith with support from intelligence. It still trounces most mobs now (and even does okay against Rellana, largely as it's quick: in, out, hokey-cokey).

I have no idea what a healing opportunity is. I take mine just as I'm about to get combod and end with around the same amount of health as when I started

My refrain for pretty much every boss in the back half of every From game since Dark Souls 3 has been "LET ME FUCKING HEAL!!!"
I remember back in Dark Souls 1 days, getting upgrades to your flask felt like a massive difference. Nowadays though, it is rare for me to get even halfway through the number of flasks I have, because you get so little opportunity to heal.

I take mine just as I'm about to get combod and end with around the same amount of health as when I started Occasionally in the expansion bosses have windows where for roughly 0.5 seconds they decide it's your turn to hit them instead of just dodging their attacks. I suppose in those moments you could make a decision to heal instead, if your some kind of COWARD. I burned through all my flasks on the boss I did last night - I should probably redistribute, I don't need 4 FP flasks in boss fights because lets be honest I will have no fucking time to cast anything.

Again though, this is where the crab is handy. If you take a hit whilst healing, there’s at least a chance you’ll take less damage!

It is pretty funny when you think 'I'm not wasting resources on this loser' and then burn through half of your flasks. I ran across one of those small rat humans with a green sword yesterday and the little wanker hit me for 50% and teleported away half a dozen times before I just corpse pilered him to death.

Found some new bits today. Annoying hippo and that area and then a new area when my horse is too scared to come out and play. Managed 2 more upgrades on myself but none for my horse.
This faith build looks very cool but it’s a pretty large self nerf compared to my previous blood katana build. Doesn’t do enough burst damage, has weak stagger and I’m unbelievably squishy. I Might have to change back to turtle tank build.

Back home and returned to playing SotE. I don't believe how bad this is. I don't fucking believe it. What'a specifically bad about it? Boss fights in particular. The base game already had a good amount of shit boss fights, but this is even worse. They took everything that was bad and doubled down on it. The designs themselves are crap, with all those giant things swirling around filling the screen with obtuse elemental AoEs and shit, it's just annoying. And more shit dragons. And more shit Tree Spirits. Could at least have put in a few Tree Avatars and Burial Watchdogs to bring up the average. The base game had some horrible hit detection already, but somehow it's got even worse and we're back to Dark Souls 2 levels. The base game was notorious for its camera issue, it felt like they just gave up and didn't give a shit anymore--but now it's even worse and it genuinely feels almost like they're doing it on purpose. This entire DLC feels like "travel around pretty areas to find the fog door with no dog shit inside".

I'd disagree about the boss designs. I think they're quite excellent. The challenge they present is obviously up for debate. There is stuff in there that is frustrating horseshit but...it's a FromSoft DLC, I remember the Old Hunters being slapping my face from the off and either had to git gud as it were or just bash my head against it. The way it's structured has given me that ability to cool off somewhere else and come back when I'm a bit more capable as it were. Obviously there is the issue about how damage is tuned and I personally feel it has erred to the direction of insane damage scaling as a challenge which obviously isn't going down well.

Balancing is another, but not my prime issue here. Again I think they're broken and the designs are shit. I've been lamenting that Elden Ring has worse boss fights than DS3, but now in SotE I genuinely think we're well below DS1&2.
