Maybe a bit off tangent but is it just me or do all the heaps of 10/10 scores mean fuck all nowadays? It's harder to get bought into things when it seems like 10/10's are given every week. No doubt the DLC will be great but I was more interested in Eurogamers 3/5 more than any of the 10's. People pushing the angle that EG didn't "git gud" but reading the review shows that the game is almost unfairly difficult in some aspects and not difficult enough with other aspects. Something I def felt towards the end of Elden Ring.

Close enough to it now that I can happily not watch that trailer. I'll be balls deep in it tomorrow! And then the Elden Ring DLC!

And, yeah, the gripes resonated for me, too. I'm a bit over 'hard for the sake of it'. Elden Ring bordered on it at the end, throwing in a dual stage boss that was resistant to things 90% of people specced. I recently played Remnant 2 on XBGP and abandoned it on the final boss for the first time pretty much in my gaming career. Shitty dual stage boss where the second phase one/two shots you before you can learn its pattern so you have to do the first phase repeatedly. Fuck that, uninstall. So, yeah, that is the kind of thing I want to know about. It won't stop me from buying it but it would stop it being an OMG10/10!! experience.

Something I def felt towards the end of Elden Ring. The thing that struck me the most with that EG review was that it seems From have given a load of official message hints in places where they normally wouldn't i.e. the forest section with insta-death if getting caught by certain enemies that's the kind of discovery you usually make yourself and have to figure out what to do. Just feels an odd decision considering less than 40% of player on Steam are DLC ready as it stands, so if the DLC is aimed at the hardcore fans then you'd think they wouldn't try and make things easier? Certainly not a complaint, I'm generally in need of "gitting gud", just felt like a fair point in the review and probably that inconsistency played a part in the lower score.

One of the things I'm looking forward to the most over the next week is sharing discoveries with you bastards and laughing at how many cliffs Quaddy falls off.

Yeah, the hints are ominous. 'Hit the weak point' are the shittiest of all enemies.

I installed the latest update… have they changed the Bandai Namco logo that shows when you launch the game? Don’t remember it having a red border.
Also I’d misremembered, my massively over levelled main character was lv160 when I beat Malenia… but I didn’t stop there. He’s now lv180! I’ve never bothered about the “meta” / recommended level in a Souls game before, but I do wonder if I might have made the DLC a wee bit easier than it should be…
(Guess I can always Larval Tear and then not claim all the levels back if it’s a problem…)

Re: the heavy-handed developer hints criticized in the EG review, I wonder if these were there for the benefit of the reviewers and will be absent or toned down in the release version.

If anyone needs help with Mohg later I can probably assist - tarnished hedben is now dual-wielding heavy brick hammer and heavy great stars with 65 strength - bosses don’t like this One Simple Trick (be an absolute hulk)

This is aactually why I was uhhming and ahhing over buying it in the first place. The boss fights in ER very much got to the limits of my patience zone a lot of the time. The whole canceling animations to attack you when you try to heal thing, the multiple bosses / phases, the endless attacking and focus on evasion over defense. The gimmicks like super hard multiphase bosses also able to heal themselves etc. I have, to be honest, had my fill. It's why I still haven't gone back to the DLC in Wo Long and why I too canned my playthrough of Remnant 2. I just can't be arsed and over the last ten years I think I've proved myself enough to now just relax a bit more while gaming (which is hilarious given how much System Shock is kicking my arse, but that's different as my playthough is fuelled by nostalgia). I'm really not looking to the bosses in this. General exploration, yes. Bosses, no.

I think EG's review is quite interesting and well written but cant help but feel the score was purposely contrarion for clicks or a way (in vain) to impact from's approach to bosses and difficulty.
I might be in the minority, but I despise Dark Souls 3 DLC and never intend to finish it ever again. The last boss was fun and fair but all others felt like a slog (the demon princes and dragon in particular).
If elden rings dlc has more bosses with gigantic health bars and multiple fases, power armor one shot stunlock moves, I am not sure I can get excited for it.
I finished all soul games, Nioh 1/2 and their dlc. I would prefer they go back and try a few inventive bosses like the Old Monk or the monkeys from sekiro. Obviously not the bed of chaos as that one is a awfull example.

It is what it is and EG do skew to being more favourable to smaller indie games. I mean they did seem almost embarrassed for having ER as their GOTY.

I don’t mind a fair, graduated challenge. In the main, Souls games are fine. You can usually grind your way through harder bits which is ok because the game is fun. A few Albinauric Slaughter Rampages later and the hump is navigated.
I’m just not a big fan of brutal skill checks/stop signs which are designed to stop you in your tracks. It’s just not fun. And, yeah, when it’s blatantly obvious the bosses cheat it feels like even more bullshit.

Ha ha no way. That should have been there from the start. That fight was crying out for you being able to use your donkey. It would have been a fitting end to the game as well.

Decreased the fire’s poise damage.
Removed the fire’s knocking down effect.

One of the things I'm looking forward to the most over the next week is sharing discoveries with you bastards and laughing at how many cliffs Quaddy falls off. Still deciding whether to purchase the dlc but it is the first couple of weeks which are special with souls games as people work through the game and share their exploits. Except for Biichi who will have it finished by Sunday Morning.

I really wish we could customise Torrent. Even his hair colour. Billy could complete his nazghul look then. Right now he looks terrifying, until he has to climb on his little pack horse.
