Anyone else just a little scared of turning the game on after a year+ away?

I fired it up a couple of nights ago, spent 30 mins in it and realised two things:
1) It's a huge game and unless I want to take one of my existing characters into the DLC, it will take me tens of hours to get a new character up to par 2) I can't be arsed actually playing it

Anyone else just a little scared of turning the game on after a year+ away? I mean... I beat the snake bastard in Nioh 2 after like 3 years of not playing that... Maybe it'll work out?

From guys who’ve played it, my understanding is that the stuff that didn’t help out much in the main game, so Faith and Holy builds, will get more of a chance to shine. So just make sure you’ve got a few larval tears to play around with. JonFE all I hear is bubble trumpets

oof there are some heavy hitting bosses in this final few stages... I've put Malenia on the backburner for now (thanks for all the tips above though - I'll be back!) and then after a few goes at the impossible to spell dragon placidusax I've left him alone too (although I got him down to the last sliver of health a couple of times so I think I can crack this one).
Moving on to beastclergy/Maliketh though and he's pretty tricky too! I can get him to his second form fairly easily and then it's a bit of dodge roulette to stay alive in phase 2. I nearly got him once or twice though but I can see how fatigue can set in at this point of the game for a lot of people! Will try to power through later on!
Might need to re-sub to PS+ for additional summoning support just to finish this game...

Aye, I'm sure it sounds like madness to many, but I find Souls games (particularly Dark Souls 1 and to some extent Bloodborne) very relaxing to play. Not so much boss fights, but definitely the bits in-between. I think it is something about the way the games are quite deterministic and once you have learnt how to travel through an area you can normally do it over and over again without too much trouble. It is somehow still satisfying to go through those motions though.

Yeah all the bosses you mentioned are mother fuckers

Yeah all the bosses you mentioned are mother fuckers +10! I'm pretty much fully upgraded and level 140ish by this point so I think now I just need to practice a bit more dodging ducking and diving. Saying that I just beat Maliketh! Went a bit tankier with heavy armour and used bloodhound step (which I had attempted on Malenia). Have to say whilst the bosses are tough it has at least forced me to experiment with a few other weapons/ashes instead of just running about with the Moonveil.

Good man, there's so many ways to play this, almost any weapon is viable. I was glad From got nerfy on the more egregious weapons like RoB, Frosty Axe and Moonveil for that reason

That trailer above is more like a "story so far". It's awesome and spoiler free.

What's with the newsreader narrator :/
Some of the best VA work in the business in the game itself and they go maximum bland. Very weird.

For those wondering if they're going to be over or under levelled for the DLC, I believe they've engineered it to work like this: It doesn't matter what level you are in the base game - the scaling will be way beyond anything in vanilla and you'll essentially be brought up to the new baseline at the start of the DLC. That way, everyone is pretty much playing from the same starting point in terms of power level. Level progression won't be through Runes, but through obtaining another item to use as your XP currency, thus eliminating any advantage gained by stockpiling Runes before release. This only applies to the DLC and returning to the Lands Between restores you to your regular Rune Level.

See... That's all putting me off even more. What I've always liked about their DLC is how it's integrated into the base game. This is more like it's own thing, with stuff that doesn't transfer between the two. Hmm.

Managed to beat Malenia after heading back there last night! First time of asking (after given up following the previous 50 attempts).
Nothing fancy just tried the darkmoon sword again and waved it around along with my mimic. I think I got a bit lucky on the RNG as no spinny-death-move this time.
Just that giant dragon to go back to and then head towards the end...

I've finally put together a comet azure one-shot build. Just melted the draconic tree sentinel in about five seconds. Ooh this is gonna be fun.

It’ll be a big miss if you can’t bring new weapons and spells into the main game.

Definitely had enough of the end-bosses now! Made my way to Radagon/Elden Beast and clearly my katana has met it's match. Respecced to str/faith to try out some of the big sword options instead and seem to be able to take out Radagon now fairly easily (blasphemous blade!) but the giant floating slug thing I can't even get hits on.
What a silly end boss... Any suggestions for killing the fucker?
