Changed mind went with Prisoner. This is what I went and have been having a great time. I did level STR up to 18 though for a specific weapon I found (and love)!

Went and got stuck with my katana, kinda feel I need to switch but bleed is too good and the flail was disappointing. I one shotted the bosses of Stormveil castle. I think, if anyone struggles eith them, pumping around 25-30 points in vigor is all you need really. I did it with low dex, +3 uchigatana. I think I was level 42 though. I would like to coop with some people, add Irajin if you need help I actually could use some help on the falling beast star in the crystal cave.

You've probably chosen by now, but I'd recommend stoneward keys Beware liar (I've tried one of the dungeons, in the starting area, and hated it with all of my being) I'm level 30 and struggling with this particular dungeon. Found the right route, but a couple of hard hitting buggers are causing me problems. That dungeon caused me issue tonight, as did trying to escape the Gael Tunnels as I couldn't fast travel out once I had the smithing drops I needed. Done a bit of levelling and made my main weapon +2 (I've been fickle, so have a few weapons at +2, but am now happy to stick with this one) but no actual progress tonight.

On another note I have some seriously sick looking intelligence based swords etc that I can't wait to try on my next character Do tell , I need one for my Astrologer! So, with my astrologer I did loads of exploring around Liurnia of the Lakes and did Rya's quest , I was looking for and found Carian Knight's Sword which I thought you could just nab. It's on the back of a stagecoach wagon being pulled by two Trolls and guarded by 20 odd Knights so I got smashed to bits every time I tried to get it. Eventually gave up and went back to my Confessor. Helped people to kill Margit and eventually killed Margit too. I now can level up 4 times, I have Vig and Mind at 13, Str and Fth at 17, Unsure whether to pump it all in Vig, share it around or concentrate on Faith and Strength. Hmm.. One was very west after castle storm vale near a posion swamp.

Being ambushed by hordes of pygmy militia (whose armour drop is my size!) Fucking Moomin nightmare fellows Those ridiculous dual wield archers Dropping unwisely into a tomb of bigguns
It's been all over the shop tonight, and I'm at a point of no idea what to do next. The freedom is making me dash in with the steed, grab good shit, and get out. That and cheesy circling horse archery.
But having found the book for Lightning Spear, I suppose I'm going full holy warrior faith now.

Just running along a path to a castle on Torrent, avoiding arrows etc and the two tree sentinels??? Nope… ran straight past them and found a point of grace with two more golden seeds. I’ll rest there for a bit.

My skills are a bit rusty and I'm trying to remember I can jump as a legitimate tactic. Artistically it is quite stunning I must say. Switch it to triangle if you like X as the action button

From popping in this thread here and there, the gist I'm getting is that Miyazaki developed a big bear phobia recently.

Beat Renalla. Didn't find her too bad which is probably a good thing, as I reckon that first phase would get tedious if you had to repeat it a lot. Beat her on about the 3rd or 4th attempt. Couple of her abilities towards the end of the fight are pretty cool.
In general, I've been finding it a bit easier than previous Souls games, although that could just me now being better at them (recently played Demon's Souls for the first time in the remastered version and was surprised how quickly I got through it without much difficulty too). I've also probably over-leveled a bit, being now just over level 50 and only just taken down 2 of the big bosses.
Taking out most mini-bosses has been pretty straightforward and normally getting them on first attempt and I expect it is because I'm doing a lot of damage. Normally only takes about 5-6 hits to kill them. Also think the horseback boss battles, although epic, are pretty easy due to the ease that you can put distance between you and the enemy.
On another note, I've noticed quite a few weapons that seem to scale on faith. Have From actually made faith builds viable? Previous games have had a few interesting abilities, but very few weapons that scaled on it in any meaningful way.

So that was quite an absorbing session for a school night. Just logged off at 12.30, did some sneaky backstabbing, well a lot, a lot of parrying which is almost too easy to do after a couple of minutes barely used magic which I really should, explored west, attacked some massive crabs, and noped the fuck out of 2 huge ass bears just chilling in the woods. Avoided any semblance of a boss as I get the muscle memory back but did get out a pen and notepad to remember things I saw and tasks I've been given by some haughty ass dude to liberate a fort.
You forget how you've been conditioned by modern open world games to have quest lists and fucking markers ever which way and just explore with no gating. Refreshing is the word I would use. I wouldn't be surprised to see future open world games harking back to this way but you forget how many people need to be told where to have their fun. Anyway, looking forward to get stuck in tomorrow as I finish work early tomorrow and start late on Friday.

I wouldn't be surprised to see future open world games harking back to this way but you forget how many people need to be told where to have their fun. That was actually part of what made primarily Breath of the Wild but also the Xenoblades (to an extent) and most recently Legends Arceus so wonderful to me: you get some light nudging to the next story spot and sidequests do have waypoints for you to follow sometimes, but for the most part you're left completely free to explore and do what you want, the only icons on the map being those that you place yourself. There are some roadblocks you can't circumvent without progressing the story of course, but those are generally few and far between. Admittedly the Xenoblades might not be as good of an example but I could easily spend hours in, say, Gaur Plains just running around the map, discovering places and hauling ass away from level 81 Unique Monsters rather than going straight to the next story point. Compare that to the most recent Assassin's Creed trilogy for example, which feels a lot more... checklist-y with its side locations, for lack of a better word, and it's a very different experience. Which is not to say I didn't like those games as well of course, in fact I've greatly enjoyed both flavours of open world for many an hour, but as you say it will be very refreshing not to see random question marks everywhere on the map 😄

I for one found the most recent AC absolutely dire, it was boring as hell and it's biggest crime was a extremely detailed world but nothing interesting in it to make me want to explore it. I've still yet to explore a Ubisoft map with a sense of discovery about it, it's all just scenery to get past to get to the next mission marker.

Different strokes for different folks obviously. It did eventually get repetitive to head towards a marker only to see the Nth camp you have to clear out but I generally viewed the markers as more of a way to plan a vague path (with plenty of getting sidetracked and just randomly checking out a peak or clearing just for fun) through a world that was really rather beautiful to behold, whether that was Egypt, England/Norway or Greece. Greece especially had that feeling of being home but not quite home, "Oh, I know what that looks like now, what could I have seen back then?" But again, I completely understand how that could feel like a chore compared to the complete freedom of the likes of BotW and Elden Ring

Had a great evening doing a lot of the Weeping Peninsula. Highlight was the fight against the ancient frosty warrior guy in the prison circle thing oh and I also wasn't expecting there to be 3 churches in the area, my flask went from +1 to +4 in one evenings play! Think I'm gonna attempt to finish Stormvail Castle tomorrow Level 40 now, got my Broadsword to +6

After about 20+ attempts I killed the glowy tree thing at the end of the dungeon with the death chariot. Killed the chariot too. And the reward was... something I'll never be able to use! Hooray! How did you kill it? And, what was the item? If you dont mind, that is The reward for killing the chariot (which you can do by following a path that lets you get above it, then drop an exploding pot on it) is a greatbow, which I can actually almost use.
The boss of the area I killed through sheer bloody persistence (and lots of dodging). The reward is a seed that increases your estus (or whatever it's called), and a summon that costs more FP than I think I'll ever have But hey, respecs are a thing, maybe I'll be able to use it eventually.

I've been hoovering up Weeping Peninsula this evening. Still got a bit to do but I've just had a crazy experience! I attacked a small Fort and at the top was a guy on a ballista, who I quickly dispatched and then (surprise spoiler here) opened the treasure chest next to him... Bloody hell, I got transported to a place called Leyndell, Royal Capital, way up north of the map. There was a site of grace here and a huge, fiery metal giant ! Took me ages to kill, but I eventually managed it and opened a chest near here that contained a talisman that gradually restores health , happy days!

I'm not ashamed to admit my clock says over 60 hours. I'm something in the 60s level wise and my Uchi is at +16. My sleep pattern is now fucked and for all I know my wife has left me and my dog is dead but that's inconsequential at the moment. quadfather you mentioned stones:
On your map most mines are small little circles. Some have a boss that gives a ball bearing you can hand into the merchant at the Roundtable. They will then stock them in future. But if you've done Magrit there's a mine near there and the church of Elleh you can seek out that'll give you plenty.
