To be honest things are starting to go numb down there so I might end up doing that anyway.

How do you have your monitors? I had a lot of back and neck problems when I started office work, until a chiropractor suggested I lift up my monitors (so that I'm looking up at them) and it's made things a LOT better. Just a thought.

I had a full-on bone spur sanding and a tonne of scar tissue scraped out. Needed to reread that a few times I did not have a full-on robot chubby, if that's what you're imagining. When they started the surgery they didn't even properly sedate me, so I could feel QUITE A LOT OF IT. Excuse me, Mr Specialist, I can feel you hacking away into my shoulder blade. Oooh, tHaT's BeTtEr...

Also, I've just realised why I come to this forum much less than I used to to the other one. It's the New button. I click that and see I'm 10 pages behind (good job people btw, this is a really lively place!) and just give up. We need a last page button asap. If you want me coming here more, that is. Pro tip: click the last number icon for the thread, ie: 94 in this case. You're welcome. Not on mobile, no.

Just a thought. That's handy to know thanks. I've been having neck pain in recent weeks. I think it was because I had one monitor off to the side and looking over to it all the time caused me issues. I've now got them to the left and fight of my front at a slight angle. I've just lifted them as well in case it helps. They're on a bunch of covid lateral flow kit boxes. I also have "buggered" shoulders which crunch something awful all over when I roll them and a knee that didn't quite recover from a torn meniscus cartilidge. Aside from that, I've been reasonably lucky. I'm thinking of starting yoga next months to see if it will help with flexibility (I'm as flexible as a Redwood).

Just a thought. Good advice and yes, I've looked into it before so definitely got that all setup right. Think the new chair was just TOO different to what I'm used to and I was aware of constantly shifting on my seat and fucking about with the lumbar thing. Hopefully it will subiside after a few days on my old chair. But yeah monitor height, arm rest height, wrist angle (ooh-err), all that shit. makes so much difference.

The DSE stuff that people laugh at is actually good and worth reading. Monitor at eye level so you're not looking down. I use an Anker Vertical "Shark Fin" mouse at work and it's sorted my RSI. Only ~£14 too. Not great for gaming but perfect for working 8 hours a day. I have a couple of TKL keyboards to help keep my arms aligned and not splayed so my shoulders/collar aren't twisted. Get a foot rest and a lumbar thingy for your chair.
Also do things like a mental "Posture Check" every so often and you find yourself slouching less and also get up for a wander every so often.
I was getting bad RSI and posture symptoms about 10 years ago, started changing stuff at work and in a few weeks i'd noticed a real difference and i think i'd be fucked now if i hadn't changed my habits back then.

So just to check, we've done middle aged obsessions and now we're onto falling apart and most likely getting hip replacements. I can only imagine that late stage incontinence is the next musing.

Annual Font Geek Dignitas outing anyone? Do they do group bookings? At least Covid protection wouldn't be a problem, that must keep the price down.

A musing. Problem with this forum is it's doomed to die. EG had the hook that was gaming news and bullshit, which bought in new people with a common interest all the time, this just it's just an otherwise indecipherable endgame. I think there were hardly any new eg forum regulars for the last few years...

It's how we're all destined to end up. This will be one big happy virtual old peoples home. We'll sit typing away furiously with fuck all else to do with our days, fondly recalling when Phage had difficulty connecting the audio of his xbox to his telly, sitting on mountains of our own shite.

I do find my knees hurt a lot. And my legs in general feel a constant desire to stretch.
Not so bad for the thighs and calves, but it's annoying as hell trying to stretch the anterior tibialis or whatever it's called on the front of the shin is a bastard.

'We all need to stare at the cosmic futility of our own existence before we crumble to dust every once in a while.' The new Font Geek mission statement :thumbsup The only 3 things left on my ultimately futile todo list forever really are play Hell Let Loose, get stoned and moan about the Tories, and I can do 2 of those here and talk about the third.

just realised - those mass synchronised drone light shows you see at firework displays and beaming the propoganda of theocratic dictators - within ~5 years the cost of those systems will be within reach of crypto spammers, viagra dealers and mid size protest organisations. Within 10 years grafiti taggers & tiny weird local far right groups will have them. Within 12, your passive aggressive next door neighbour.
