We were quite jealous of the comfortable time everyone else was having but I’m blaming my dad. He still does it like he did in the 70s and like we holidayed in the 80s.
We did just buy our first tent large enough to stand in which has been a game changer in camping now my son is a proper child and not just a toddler.

I think it's all part of the experience qnd thought it was quite funny once we'd got it up. My wife, less so. Also did a BBQ for 12 in the rain after the onsite takeaway shop ran out of food. Peaceful now though.  Dougs is effectively Calvin's dad from calvin & hobbes. Calvin and his mum are miserable camping in the rain, whilst the dad Dougs claims 'It's character building!' |

Tried camping. Bought a tent and all the gubbins. Been camping with the wife’s family a few times and a few music festivals. The three of us had a conversation a few months back and realised that we all just fucking hate it. So that’s good. No more camping.

The wife’s family are also very worthy middle-class campers. If a holiday isn’t as cheap and uncomfortable as humanly possible, it’s disgustingly frivolous. I bailed on a family trip once after three straight days of being moist and spent the rest of the week in a B&B in the village.
And still the Mrs will get one on her every so often to go camping like her memory has been wiped.
The psychotic thing is I watch the Kent Survival YouTube channel religiously (it’s great, give it a shot) and always sit there thinking ‘I’d love to do that, that looks cool’.
Maybe it’s just the other people I don’t like.

I like camping in principle as it is better depending on who you're with. Generally I've found myself always coming back home absolutely knackered as I never really sleep that well so it has a cumulative effect on my enjoyment of the day and I end up getting grumpier and grumpier because i want to go home but I don't want to be that guy who's not having a good time.

It'll probably be no surprise to anyone that the dog and I often fuck off into the middle of nowhere and camp a bit.
Also, went shopping. I really shouldn't go on Friday lunchtimes, but I especially should not have gone today. People are stressful.

I mistakenly left it a bit late to pick up a few bits this morning, the perils of living in a seaside town, the car park was absolutely chock-a and is one that is really awkward to drive around, so much so that I turned around and parked practically on the other side of the town centre as it was the only free space I could find, still a nice stroll about town with only a small bag of shopping in this fine weather was no bad thing.

Give me a tipi, yurt or cabin and will happily stay outside all day and night until bed, but demand a proper bloody bed because I'm high maintenance like that.

Was a cub/scout with an arm full of badges, so love camping. Once picked up a brick from a camp fire that had only just been put out. Really hurt. Also burnt my mouth drinking tea from a grapefruit skin. So many life lessons from camping, especially about burning

I helped my brother build a Merc Sprinter LWB into a camper for him to stay in when working away, cooker, fridge and double bed. All went great and well until some idiot slammed into him and wrote it off, it had so much weight that it gave him a slight brain injury in the crash.
