In a science based building for kids with loads of age appropriate experiments and a soft play area.
I just told a child he was an asshole. I feel no regrets.

Because folk do not experiment enough with their takeaway choices and have little to compare it to. For example, I have ordered from the same Chinese for nearly 10 years. Doesn't that get boring? It should do, but there’s something comforting about knowing exactly what you’re gonna have. I’m way more likely to experiment with cooking than gambling with a take away. If I go out to a restaurant, I rarely pick the same one. I’m the complete opposite in that respect.

Student meals were usually
Rice and Peas and whatever else was in my cupboard or fridge that needed to be used up. Rice and tinned tomatoes boiled and simmered with a bunch of spices and a ton of TVP for an edible fake chili. Pasta and tinned tomatoes. Pasta and Tuna and tomatoes or rice and tuna and tomatoes. Microwaved baked spuds with beans or tomatoes. All served with a flagon or two of cheap cider ( Barnstormer, white lightning etc ) with some rolled ciggies ready to go for desert. It did depend on housemates though as some were loaded and would make sure there was a decent meal cooked once or twice a week. Good times.

Also ate a lot of fish fingers and Super Noodles, washed down with Fosters Export that the Budget Booze offy sold at a discount because it was slightly out of date.

I also got good use out of this at Uni: Ken Hom's Foolproof ChineseAs basically 1 wok meant less dishes in general. Plus once you'd found a Chinese supermarket (easy in Manchester). You could just get those giant bottles of soy sauce and rice wine and keep making chicken and black bean forever.

I honestly can't remember what I ate in my uni days.
I'm pretty sure this is a good thing.

Spag bol with budget baked beans. Come at me Italians.
I know this because I recall vomiting after a session one night and spaghetti came out my nose.

Thinking back I actually did pretty well for cooking at uni. Didn't resort often to frozen stuff, and if I did it was only ever chips, fish fingers or a pizza. I didn't go in for weird shit like crispy pancakes, breakfast in a tin or Frey Bentos, though I did regularly get the Asda 'sausage and mash pie'. Loads of takeaway pizzas and chippy teas though.
Even in my first year I used to do pork chops, mash and veges, grilled fish with vege. It was laziness and disgusting kitchens that would lead me to beans on toast.
I am actually at uni right now, and my lunch was a vegan lasagne from the Krishna cafe. And for tea I was actually planning beans on toast before entering this thread.

My Youtube algorithm has gone weird, seizing on anything I show the slightest interest in and then flooding my feed. It always did this of course but it’s much, much more desperate and echo-chambery than it used to be. I watched one video of a horse farting and OH MY GOD.

Toyota seems to have a new slogan, start your impossible. Now, I’m not a native speaker, but is that just a nonsensical phrase, or am I missing something? Irritates the fuck out of me for some reason.

GIS, I've been doing it for decades but with no formal training. So now I'm doing a course which is 50% stuff I know inside-out, and 50% 'I wish I'd known that when XYZ happened'. Soon I'll be moving in different circles though: newhampshirebulletin.com/2024/08/07/former-geography-teacher-tim-walz-is-really-into-maps/

There’s a noisy waste disposal truck outside my house dealing with a fatberg or something. If I take a shit right now and flush will it go spraying into their faces?
