If you're talking about this thread, the only thing they have to go off is the English forum going down. community.eurogamer.it/thread/372419It seems like it's only us who are getting nuked.

I don't really disagree with sentiment behind this, but I feel obliged to point out that reviews *are* opinion pieces. By their nature, they are impossible to be objective. Now you can argue that EGs reviews are not very insightful or just plain bad, and I wouldn't argue against you, but even the very best reviews are opinion pieces. All that said I still use EG for a quick look at what's coming out, as I dont really get games "news" anywhere else. Maybe my standards are just lower or something, but I genuinely don't see why people think EG reviews are badly written. They're not that bad! They describe the game, the good and bad things about it, and don't go on for thousands of words. I guess there often isn't a score to tell you How Good It Is, but... that's what the review is for. I've seen enough error-riddled IGN shit to last me a lifetime, and the EG reviews are miles ahead of that. They're not perfect, but writing is a pretty fucking hard job. So... give them a break! But then there's Edwin. Or Matulef. Donlan gets annoying at times with his inability to mention anything at all about gameplay and instead focus on how his willy felt as the title screen loaded up each night. And the less said about any of their video crew the better. I think the only writer there that I don't have any beef with is Martin Robinson, since he actually covers what I want to know about in his reviews without getting diverted by the silhouette of a bloody trifle

To be honest I don't have an issue with the majority of their reviews, but a few get a bit off topic, it feels.

Yeah, poor choice of words on my part. They just seem to drift off into pointless drivel that wouldn't be out of place on one of those annoying recipes that waffle on about it evoking memories of their childhood holiday in Tuscany.
Some reviewers are still decent, but some I'll just skip to the last paragraph.

The problem with games journalists is the same as any other, when they take themselves more seriously than their subject and their readers. I fell out with John Walker and arch-cock Stu Campbell about 18 years ago I think, because I called them hacks. I was just using it as a short form of 'journalist' so if anything just reaffirming their profession, but they both lost it, Walker with his customary 20 words where 1 will do witterings.
Just talk about the games, and if you insist on putting yourself in there, be more rude and unpleasant about yourself than you are about the game, or sound like a bellend. Yahtzee does this - if he mentions himself it's only stuff like how he enjoys wanking over a dead fox or something, not his encyclopaedic knowledge of the enemy types in Ordyne.

Congrats! It's a great feeling to be totally done with a job. Close the door on the stress (or whatever else caused you to leave) and unwind for a bit!
I've allowed myself a month and a bit of doing fuck all, so Monday will either be starting to study or searching for a new job. Haven't decided which yet...

Yep Stress and greedy wankers, they both seem to always arrive in the end, the measure of a good job is how long you get before they do, 6 years this time. Good luck in whichever you decide dude, I'm having a few months to see what global crisis is next, and whether I can be arsed working through it.

I guess this is just where we fundamentally differ, because Walker was one of my favourite reviewers. I don't mind personality and a bit of wordiness; to me they add to the review, not take away. Anyway, good work on the job/life change! Good

Yeah I don't necessarily dislike everything journalists like that produce, would just like to see them takes themselves less seriously whilst doing so. James May on cars the same, and any number of food critics. All of them infact. Except the one off Ratatouille. And thanks dude

Saw these in the supermarket, had to try them. Like cheese balls, but with bubble gum flavour. Remarkably, they taste thrice as disgusting as you'd think.

Hey guys. I've not been on much over the past week because my girlfriend of the last several years dumped me. I didn't think i'd be that bothered by it, but i've been feeling really weird.
Have basically just been leaving the office, returning to Moonracer and playing Ghost of Tsushima. I thought that killing Mongol hordes would help me process it, but actually it's the haiku that i've gotten the most from.
So i tried copying Jin. Sitting somewhere, and just looking at the immediate surroundings, zooming in on something and thinking about what that object might be an allegory for or otherwise represent.
Despair is a knife My heart, a fresh tiger loaf Mottled armour fails
Almost all of the ones i have written so far are about my kitchen knives. I have to leave my home tomorrow for work, so will try something more uplifting.
It's pretty awful that i've gone from blissful happiness to whatever this is in the space of a few weeks. But i can't give in to it, not until Khotan Kahn has been dealt with.

That's easily a top 10 haiku about tiger bread for me. Keep at it!
Break ups are shit... Hope you find some sort of resolution soon and move on.

I think that in order to truly convey the magnitude of my sadness, i need to buy harder bread. What's the next crust up from mottled? Like dutch melba toast or something?
Or maybe i'm focusing too much on the various ways bread can be damaged. Sure, it can be cut, or burned, or torn... but the other thing about bread, is that it rises.
So maybe i just need to ride this wave of crushing despair until the yeast kicks in.
But what if it doesn't? What i'm a fucking naan now, or some other unleavened bread? I'd say that would be a pita, but not even terrible puns will cheer me up right now.
Although the IT Crowd reference did, and the compliment about my tiger bread poem. So thank you.

I edited it though because it broke the haiku rules, although I think it still does.
As for bread get sourdough, toughest crust on the block.

Why did she dump you? Was it related to the EG closure?
If so, you need to reassure her that you’re still a big player, just on fontgeek now which is essentially the same thing
