Saw The Hives last weekend in Wolverhampton, cracking gig, it was so loud though, could have done with earplugs then.

Wanted to see Interpol in Manchester (purely for Bright Lights/Antics material - everything after that is fairly poor) but tickets are £90 for a simple standing ticket - no chance I'm paying that. Ooff that's way too much and would be a no for me too. Why so much for Manchester, it's half that £43 for Bristol Beacon (great venue too), I went for it as I loved the Antics album back in the day and not seen them live since Your Love to Admire tour. On my birthday too so will be a nice nostalgia trip.

Came out of work this evening to meet the crowds heading in to see Hawkwind. I hadn’t even known they were due in town. Gutted to miss them but mrs simple is away with the girls early tomorrow so I can’t be out tonight.
Will have to make sure I don’t miss the chance again, they’re a very active band but Dave Brock is in his 80s now and a few notable names from past line-ups have already left us. Plus they’re one of my longtime favourite bands.

My first proper live gig was seeing them on The Chronicles of the Black Sword tour. Fuck that's a long time ago.

Yeah, the current line-up having been doing almost an album a year for awhile and touring pretty much constantly too.
My first was the Hawkestra all nighter anniversary show where they came on at 11 and played for nearly four hours. Then Brock and Nik Turner fell out forever and spent nearly twenty years fighting over the who owned the name.
There’s a pretty good chance that if you exclude friends bands and include all the different incarnations that I’ve seen them more times than any other band.

Just seen Stereo MCs, Inspiral Carpets, and the Happy Mondays. Tremendous, and very civilised at the front. I was there more for SMCs and Inspirals rather than the Mondays, but all in it was great.

What with kids and finances and covid I haven't been to a gig in over 15 years, but I decided during lockdown that I was going to make an effort to go out to gigs once things opened up again. Then of course no bands that I wanted to see came to Tokyo over the past year.
But I just got tickets to The Warning in June, so I'm feeling rather hyped about that. I actually have no idea what the vibe is gonna be like though. The venue is like a shoebox, so it's gonna be loud.
Definitely need to pick up some of those earplugs before June!

The Hives at Hammersmith Apollo last night. Bought a set of the earplugs mentioned here and they were amazing. Was chatting to the mate I went with about them as I got them out to put them in and the lady beside me said oh I have those and they are amazing. She suffers a lot with tinnitus as well and it was nice to leave with it feeling no worse than normal and no temporary hearing loss which was also nice!
Gig was absolutely amazing, I've seen them before live when they supported green day but they were a level above last night. He has such a brilliant stage presence and for me is one of the best stage entertainers going.

I was gutted I couldn't get tickets for them in Cardiff at the beginning of the month

I wasn't even meant to be going, my mate who had the tickets was supposed to be going with his daughter but she has just had a baby. He called me to ask if I wanted the tickets for me and the Mrs but I said don't be daft I will take you. Was a long day as I worked during the day but well worth it. Got parking at the Novotel which is like a 5 minute walk and it was really easy getting away after too.
I love the Hammersmith Apollo as well, probably one of my favourite venues.
Next up Green Day in June and then Rise against in August. Decent year for me gig wise.

Does anyone else ever buy tickets to gigs then as the day approaches just lose interest?
Have a ticket to see some industrial sludge / doom band called Body Void this evening, but just not really feeling in the mood for going out; might prefer to just have a lie down.

I often get home from work, then cba with the thought of the 20 mile trip back in to the city for a gig.
However, I do always go, because once you're there it's good.
Basically, go, you'll have a fine old time.

If it was Midnight I'd have no such qualms. They are great, and fun.
Body Void are not going to be everyone's taste too say the least, it's purposefully horrendous, claustrophobic, anxiety inducing doom / sludge.
If I'm in the right mood it's amazing. When I bought the ticket a while ago, I was in the right sort of mood.
If I'm not in the right mood... Ugh.
Doesn't help that I don't really want to drink in the week. I know it's a crutch that shouldn't be relied on but it does make things easier sometimes.

Me and Mrs Simple are off to see a show called Angels of the North which is the three north eastern finalists from the last series of Drag Race UK. I assume it’ll be wall-to-wall Gen Z and cool gays making us both looks haggard and ancient by comparison despite being more or less the same age and having grown up in the next village to one of the acts.

I buy tickets for bands I’m obsessed with at that moment and have grown bored of the album or whatever by the time of the gig so yeah - but it’s always ace after.
As someone else said, it’s being old and tired so can’t be arsed but you have to force yourself.

I'm really struggling to motivate myself here though. I could do with friends who actually like the same kind of music. Also having some weird anxiety spike.
update: nah, not happening tonight. Might go to bed instead.

Turns out the drag show was an absolute triumph, felt like a real victory lap and the crowd were one of the loudest I’ve been in for a long, long time.
Although in terms of being a sausage fest and an audience with a high proportion of moustache wearers it was certainly in a similar league as Sunn O))) a couple of weeks ago.

Should be seeing Devil Master tonight, blackened metal / punk. After I sacked off going to the gig last week this feels much more likely.

After missing him play three times in a row I’ve bought tickets for a fourth Pictish Trail show in two years. Each has been progressively closer to my house so its obviously meant to be but I think this is the closest alternative venue to mine there is so presumably my last chance.
