160 is outrageous!
I managed to get tickets for Greta Van Fleet at Royal Albert hall for 79 each . Great band but hopefully they spend less time on overlong pretentious intros, guitar solos and changing their costume every 3 songs!

I like everything up until the self titled avocado album! Then it's a bit of a phone in job.

They were always quite a classic rock style act compared to the other Seattle bands so them really going that way over the last 20 years was no real surprise. Luckily they wear it well.
They are consistently excellent live too. If anyone can afford to see them.

Said for a long time that I don't do big gigs, but the one exception I'd make is Pearl Jam, and this is the first time I've been in a position to get tickets. So I've got tickets to the London gig. Time is ticking to cross things off the Before Forty, Fuck-It list.
Suppose I'd better make an effort to actually listen to Lightning Bolt. Still not sure I can get through Gigaton though.

At this point I don't know how people can make eye contact with anyone else at a gig if everyone knows they've paid at least £160 to be there

But my son made an expected premature appearance so we had to can that. I've been trying to get her tickets since but not been able to justify it - this tour would have been close to a grand for the two of us by the time travel and hotels were factored in.

Problem with hardcore bands is the hardcore fans and their fucking stupid "dancing".
Let a gig early because I can't be arsed with their bullshit

I haven't been to a gig in years, and for some reason Covid lockdowns really made me want to go. So I've been waiting hopefully for the 2024 lineups for Fuji Rock and Summersonic, which are the two big festivals here that tend to get the bigger international artists. And now the first lineups have been announced and they're a bit underwhelming, and I'm feeling bummed out. They tend to do the announcements in phases, so there should be some more bands added, but the tickets also tend to sell out fast. There are one or two bands I'm mildly interested in (Greta Van Fleet, Last Dinner Party), but the headliners are a bit rubbish (Kraftwerk, Maneskin, Bring me the Horizon), and with ticket prices being high it seems a bit of a gamble. Really wanted to take the eldest to their first music festival as well. (though I'm starting to think a lot of the artists might be TikTok-famous, in which case she'd be happy (AJR, One Republic, etc..))

Festivals tend to be less about the headliners and more about the general feel and experience. It's nice when there are known artists that you want to see but all live music is good in my experience, and sometimes you'll be blown away by someone you've never heard of.

The massiveness of Maneskin has always baffled me. Their Eurovision song was fine but they’re basically just a European Buckcherry.
Unless they’re the TikTok to Buckcherry’s Vine and this is the version of that thing that has caught on with the kids.

I agree when I was paying like 50 quid for a single Reading day ticket. (though those may have spoiled me with the headliners etc..) Not so much when paying 200 quid for 2 day tickets. I'd at least like to have a handful of bands that I'm excited about.

Think it's £500 for the 4 of us (teen ticket is basically the same as an adult now)to go to the IoW Festival this year. Luckily got in on the payment plan, £50 a month is a no brainer. Very much looking forward to seeing The Pet Shop Boys and Green Day. Plus Prodigy (minus Keith) again. Might be a family split, wife wants to see Suede again instead of PSB...

Are Bring Me The Horizon famous? I've never heard of them, but they seem to have a lot of views on youtube. [edit] just listened to their stuff. They're kinda Evanescence. Hmm. (Underworld is at summersonic, but only in Osaka, which is the other site) Just realised that one of the singers (Aurora) sang the theme song to the cbbc show Wolfblood, which the kid loved. I'm starting to think this lineup may be tailored to her and not me

I have been slowly listening to their back catalogue, and it's metalcore with a bit of emo. They love their Metal Gear Solid references which makes for interesting niche nods to the classics.

The only dates for The Hives tour that are not completely sold out are Newcastle and Wolverhampton, neither of which I fancy. Gutted I can't get a ticket for the Cardiff one.

Tbh they are actually very good live, very good indeed.
Night was slightly soured by some drunk hag waving her arms around in the face of another attendee. I mean, literally having her hand in their face, repeatedly. Felt sorry for the person, she was young and seemed pretty shaken up, but the crowd nearby alerted security and got the hag chucked out.
After that it was very amazing, one of my favourite live performances of the last couple of years I think.

Booked my ticket to watch Death From Above 1979 in July. A more palatable version of Lightning Bolt if you will.
Had to go to Leeds on a Friday as we were double booked for the Manchester date. Always a good show by them though.

Always a good show by them though. They were one of the bands I discovered by randomly wandering into a tent at a festival. (Reading, but no idea which year).

Their earliest stuff is screamo which I contend is virtually unlistenable, then they became more melodic rock with some gutteral screaming thrown in, which is probably their peak, then they went more electronic and experimental and started doing collaborations with pop singers and that's when they lost me. Shadow Moses and Oh No are two great tracks though.
