Yes agree on Audioslave, had a blast at the time and their gig at the Astoria in Jan '03 is a personal gig highlight for me, but I haven't listened to the albums for a long time. I think only Gasoline, Like a Stone and Wide Awake are the last Audioslave songs standing on my mega-playlist after all these years.

Anyone seen Smashing Pumpkins before? Managed to get tickets for next year. It's sort of a tick off I've seen them. I've only seen Smashing Pumpkins once about 10+ years ago at Shepherds Bush but they were amazing!
I'm still an early SP's fan and I have not listened to them a lot recently but despite my early impressions I do like their new "rock opera" albums after a few more listens so I went ahead with a solo ticket (missus does not like SP) as not sure how many times we'll get to see them "at peak" and the combo Weezer gig (don't love them but like them) at O2 was too good to pass on. I'll be up in the gods to side of stage so unsure on how good the seat view will be but a friend assured me sound quality is fine up there from a previous O2 gig in same seat area so lets see. I could not justify better seats as O2 prices get crazy quickly imo!
I'm pretty convinvinced it will be an epic gig. SP really do know how to rock it out and have such a good back catalogue to pull in songs from!

The Royston Club (Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms) - last night 8.5/10 - Shaking Hips and Bangin Out Hits! Fantastic gig at a great little venue (prob about 300 or so at a guess last night)! If you've not heard of them: - Wrexham band (most likely to be hired by Deadpool?) - clear influeces - The Strokes (guitar tempos), Arctic Monkeys (early AM - the direct but wordsmith lyrics) and The Kooks (up tempo) to name a few - fast upcoming band I can see doing really well and growing quickly with a good festival run next year Debut album's a banger and if you like any of the influences you can do a lot worse than giving it a listen! Saw John Robins perform his show about alcoholism, Howl, tonight. It was both funnier and sadder than I expected. Even knowing it was a show about his drinking problem and anxiety, I didn’t think it would be quite so honest and serious when talking about his lows.
And people ask why he doesn’t get so many tv comedy bookings.

Royal Blood at Hammersmith tonight with HotWax in support and I’m buzzing for it! I know RB get bad press because of Mike getting a bit carried away at times and that their style of Rock is commercially calculated but that does not take away from them being a cracking live band! I could watch Ben on drums every day! HW are interesting me as well. Fast upcoming female lead grunge rock band who are genuinely a bit different but in a good way and they are well regarded live for such a new band ( www.youtube.com/channel/UCV6aLwRTQR7SyzRstdqmA9A?cbrd=1 )

Royal Blood were excellent last night! It was obvious they were delighted to be playing a sold out Hammy and close to 10yr anniversarry since starting up they went for it with a set of all killers with no filler. Hit after hit with a couple of slow songs in the mix at appropriate times. The crowd absolutely loved it! 9/10
HotWax I felt sorry for. As usual for modern crowds hardly anyone had the respect to stfu and listen rather than gabbing on to each other loudly and obnoxiously while they played. It did not help that the vocals were far too low in the mix and with the lead going often down to husky tones her vocal was just lost and you could only hear what she was singing on her high range. Grungy punk also does not necessarily fire the crowd up and it felt like they were only playing to a small group of hardcore fans up front. After about 3 rows it seemed like no one cared. They've definitely got something but they need to pay more attention to getting their live levels suitable for big crowds especially when its not their own gig and also try and engage more with the audience (not easy as a new band support act granted). Acting too cool for school when you only just left it is not necessarily the best look or approach to build a fanbase? 3/10 (regretfully! - new "Invite Me, Kindly" EP just out however 7/10...)

Taking the kids (8 and 10) to see Royal Blood in Portsmouth on Friday, pleased to hear they're in good form! It'll be their first ever proper rock gig, thought RB were a good choice as it's straight up solid rock and they always put on a good live show, and the kids know most of the songs at least from the first two albums just from having them on the car playlist.

It'll be their first ever proper rock gig, thought RB were a good choice as it's straight up solid rock and they always put on a good live show, and the kids know most of the songs at least from the first two albums just from having them on the car playlist. You should have a great time and what a great first Rock gig to pick for them!
Word or warning RB stir up quite a mosh storm down front so if you're not seated I recommend you stand at least half way back in the venue (did this last night with the wife) to avoid getting pushed around etc. If you do that you might get the odd idiot pushing through to get involved once the big hitters kick in but at least you should be far enough back to keep the kids safe and move back easier if its getting a bit much for them.
Saying that everyone getting invovled moshing was having a good time and it never seemed to get out of control. It was just the crowd mix they have (prob 2/3rds late teens to early 20's I'd say) means things get pretty energetic pretty quickly!
Have an amazing time!
Not sure if your venue times will be indetical but if it helps HW @ 8, RB @ 9 last night

Went to see Bug Club last night. Have seen them before at festivals but this was the first time seeing them at their own show. They were excellent, playing for best part of 90mins.
Support was from Good News (stripped down, funky, glitchy, slightly bonkers, lots of fun) and Suep (infectiously happy, fun little ditties).
Great night and a good crowd - there was a bit of chatting going on but nothing as bad as it sounds Royal Blood's crowd were. I do find it very disrespectful of both the band and other audience members when people just chat loudly throughout. Why go to a gig for a chat? Go to the pub instead. In bigger venues, if they are at the back and at the bar then it's less of an issue, but in smaller places I just don't get it.

I'm a sucker for a tour t-shirt with dates on the back. Was looking at merch for upcoming gigs to plan what I might want to spend
The sheer number of dates on Brutus's tour t-shirt is something to behold.
Should be a good gig, and I'll likely pick one of these t shirts up...

Seeing Garth Marenghi in an old Victorian theatre tomorrow. Seems like a perfect Halloween date night.
And Danny Robins Uncanny live in a small modern theatre on Wednesday.
EDIT:
Garth Marenghi - very, very funny if structurally quite similar to the Terrortome tour
Uncanny - a lot of fun, much more elaborately staged than your usual podcast live tour. One woman managed to hog nearly all the audience interaction time in two segments to the point even Danny Robins’ enthusiasm was being sapped.

Forgot to post nearer the time, but I saw Blink 182 at the O2 on 11th October. Was fully expecting to be disappointed as the last time I saw them (with Skiba in the line-up) was fairly shite, but they we're amazing! Played all the songs I wanted to hear and for the most part sounded pretty "tight".

Lots of youngsters talking through the quite bits spoilt it a bit. Last time I was anywhere that bad was Mogwai when they first started out.

They don't seem to fit the usual vibe. Royal Blood really stand out as an oddity to me too. At least QOTSA have some metal heritage from being a Kerrang band early on and the possibility of playing something heavy. Or just jamming You Can’t Quit Me Baby for the whole set just to troll people. Its only a partial announcement but it feels quite light on heavy acts in general. And interesting that the acts are either 90s ones or modern ones with only really the headliners sitting in between.

The Old 97s have been one of my favourite bands for 25 years, but I've never met anyone who's heard of them. I've never worked out how they never broke through. They rarely tour outside of the US. I alway check dates when I'm in the States, but it's never worked out. My dream gig has always been to see them in a small venue.
So on Wednesday morning, I was shocked to discover they were playing in Glasgow last night, at a tiny venue. And distraught to find it sold out. No idea how I missed it. Scouted around for tickets but nothing. So messaged the band's FB page, asking if there might be any tickets on the door (hoping they might be able to pull something off...). Couple of messages later, they got in touch with the band, and we're on No 1 on guest list!
The Hug and A Pint is a nice grungy bar with the venue downstairs - literally the size of our living room, capacity 100.
I've been seeing bands for nearly 40 years, but I'd have to say this was the best gig I've been to. I could just about touch them (but no crush). They were having a great time, which is a big thing for me, nothing worse than a band plodding through their set looking miserable. 10/10

Ben Folds @ Royal Albert Hall last night... fantastic!
I've always loved Ben Folds from Five to Solo, through his Orchestral phase and now back to more of a Full Band arrangement teaming up with Tall Heights.
Wonderful set showing that his new album material is even better live (explaining a number of the songs along the way) and then smattering the 2nd half with some of his very best hits including Still Fighting It, Landed and Fred Jones.
Matt Lucas came on as a special guest and sung on Fred Jones and delivered it so well!
I will always continue to see Ben Folds when I can. The man is a genius and my favourite piano man after Elton John.
9/10
