Got tickets yesterday for Suede and Manic Street Preachers for July next year. Seen Manics quite a few times, but will be seeing them for the first time in their home nation over in Cardiff Castle. I know Manics will be great, but never seen Suede, so really looking forward to them. I’m a big Suede fan (saw them on tour this year and they are still great). Manics not one of my favourites unfortunately and when I listened to their recent Glasto set I think his voice (which was never the strongest imo) is not ageing well so I’ve held off but should they gig as the double header in the South East of England I could be tempted still! Let’s see…

Fair. I never was particularly a massive fan until I tagged along with my brother to a gig probably about a decade ago and now become a regular attendee along with him. I really liked their Glasto set and didn't have an issue with Bradfield's voice (although thought the general sound quality of Glastonbury coverage was a bit wank).
The double header tour includes a night in London, if that is South-East enough for you.

I know Manics will be great, but never seen Suede, so really looking forward to them. My better half is going to the Cardiff gig with her lifelong Manics mate. I'm not fussed about Manics and I saw Suede a couple of years back, so I'll be staying home with the dog.

Orbital touring again next year, this time playing the Green Album in full. I'll have to see prices but it's tempting.

I’ve tickets for the Manics and Suede in Manchester. It’ll be the seventh time I have seen Suede, last time was ages ago. I have never seen them do s bad show. 94/95th time for the Manics. Hoping they drop in some of tracks that featured in the Bath and Glastonbury sets. Some real rare live outings.

Wow, 94/95 shows did you go to multiple shows on a single tour? All the time. Last tour I caught them in Halifax, Newcastle, Manchester and Llandudno. They cancelled their gig at Peterborough which I had tickets for. Some shows are better than others. But I like going to towns and cities for a long weekend catch a band. Never been one for two weeks holidays somewhere.

Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins doing a big arena tour together next year. If there’d been a Newcastle date I’d have been tempted despite neither putting out anything good in about 25 years

If there’d been a Newcastle date I’d have been tempted despite neither putting out anything good in about 25 years I'm tempted to go to the Birmingham one if tickets are easy to get (and not too pricey) - Weezer's setlists are very Blue Album/Pinkerton heavy. Not a big fan of Smashing Pumpkins but I liked Siamese Dream well enough. How does a joint concert work? Who goes on first?

One part of me (the grew up in the 90’s with early SP part) thinks wow that would be an awesome gig! I’ve only seen SP once in London (not arena size thankfully) and they were amazing. But the older somewhat wiser me thinks SP have a big new album project on the go and the majority of the gig will likely be that (admirable and great Rock opera style project but it is not doing a lot for me tbh) and the oldies but goodies will not be that much in the mix. I’m tempted by the Cardiff date if any as thoroughly dislike the O2 for gigs and I don’t live in central London so commuting it is a pain in the *rse… and I always like a good excuse to visit Wales… it’s lush 🙂
I’m not a big Weezer fan but that said I like them enough to enjoy them I recon so added bonus…
Might come down to the Cardiff date prices and availability!

Liam… “Definitely Maybe”! Noel… “Definitely Not”! Still at least our kid gets to sing most of the good stuff his brother wrote again lol! And to be fair the definitive album written essentially for Liam to shine singing it written by Noel… www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-67121295

Result! Manics & Suede co-headlining at Eden project 2024 and managed to bag presale tix via friends living in Cornwall! Definitely looking forward to it! Eden session gigs are great! Pleased stating 75mins of each band too. Good set lengths for 2 class acts!

When I went to see Ned’s Atomic Dustbin and the Wonderstuff, they did the same. At the Manchester gig, Ned’s headlined, and during the Wonderstuff’s set Hunt asked people not to leave when they were done. I am guessing that at other venues that must have happened. They didn’t that night though.

Teenage Fanclub are doing a tour for bandwagonesque anniversary(? or just playing it all) soon mrpon. Playing round our way in nov/dec, maybe check it out and see if they're heading your way?

Birmingham 14th nov is the only one not sold out. There's no mention of bandwagonesque on their site, but a mate is going and i'm sure he said that's why he was going.
/n.b. Old age/forgetfulness may not make that necessarily factually correct.

I love how hard Liam is trying now days bless him. Got to admit his recent Knebworth gig and resulting live album is very solid. At least he's matured enough finally to realise that if he looks after himself a bit better then everyones all the better for it! That said imo he's still a decade behind how far Noel's continues to progress with High Flying Birds... just another level of class and talent really! If you do get luck enough to get Liam Manchester tickets might as well go for the whole experience... Alain Johannes is playing some shows in the UK next spring: alainjohannes.eu/tour/Big fan of his work, especially with his previous band Eleven and with Chris Cornell on the magnificent Euphoria Morning (both along with his late wife Natasha). His solo work in recent years has also been great. I don't know if I'm going to be able to make a show yet, but I recommend checking him out if you can, he's got a really distinctive and awesome guitar technique.

Euphoria Morning was seriously overlooked considering the rest of Cornell’s career

Alain is a musicians musician.
He's great live too, he'll occasionally do stuff from Euphoria Morning and Desert Sessions which is always a treat.
Not sure I'll make it for UK tour though, it clashes with The Hives.
Picked up tickets to SP/Weezer which I'm excited about having seen neither of them.

Euphoria Morning was seriously overlooked considering the rest of Cornell’s career I guess everyone was expecting Soundgarden Cornell to rock up, but I think to some extent the second half of Down on the Upside (which I adore) showed the way he wanted to go. Euphoria Morning came out when I was in my second year of college ('99) and I was still in full-on grunge mode myself, it took me a few listens to get into it but I eventually fell in love with it. It's one of my all time most cherished albums, not just for the sheer brilliance of it, but for the great memories of that time in my life.
I found out recently that there was every intention for Alain, Natasha and Chris to do a 2nd album, but Chris' life took a few turns for the worse over the next year or so, which of course ended up with Audioslave "saving" him as he put it in '02/03.. I did love a bit of Audioslave, but man, I would have loved another EM.

Yeah I quite like a bit of Down on the Upside. I think it gets fairly disregarded, but there's some great songs on there. I especially like Zero Chance. I have this vague memory of listening to Euphoria Morning around the time of Super Mario Sunshine coming out for some reason. I sometimes used to put on an album when I played a game back in the day. At the time I liked Audioslave, but on multiple listens fairly recently, it's pretty bad imo. I certainly have no intention of listening to them anytime soon.

Agree, I enjoyed the first Audioslave album at the time but its not aged super well. Would certainly have preferred more solo stuff, RATM or Soundgarden.
EM almost reminds me of a direction someone like Jeff Buckley could have taken if he’d calmed down on the histrionics.
