Saw SOEN the other night, as part of their Atlantis acoustic show, where they're accompanied by a string quartet; they were exceptional!

Robert Jon and the Wreck (Rescue Rooms, Notts)
A mate had tickets but, due to family circumstances, couldn't go so passed them to me.
I'd had a quick listen but mostly unfamiliar. Quite enjoyed it and would see them again.

Divide and Dissolve last week was fun. Whilst the crowd was small to start with, by the time Divide and Dissolve came on stage it was pretty full.
There is some nice contrast between Takiaya Reed's fairly softly spoken talking between songs and the crushingly heavy walls of noise that she and drummer Scarlet created. I liked the theatre of seeing Reed at the start of each song ambling up to the additional amps behind her and turning them on and inserting ear plugs, and then casually turning the amps back off at the end to kill the feedback.
Being instrumental drone/doom not much really stands out as it's more about the feeling, but having the guest vocalist Minori join to perform her impassioned poetry of the droning was pretty cool.

Went to see Fat White Family last week at Electric in Brixton. They do late night shows there from time to time when they get a band to pick the lineup, and add in some DJs and maybe some other forms of entertainment.
FWF were on at midnight and put on a great show. Spent some of it on the balcony, some of it in the pit. Great crowd and really good sound system.
Support was from White Devil Disco (I like what I have heard, but don't know them very well) and Yossari Baby, a brilliant 3 piece from Manchester - synths and guitars, 80's electro pop with a solid groove, and great to watch live, love em.

Ash @ The Roundhouse on Saturday Originally due to take place late March 2020 so one of the first gigs to get cancelled. Great set as always and a surprise appearance from Charlotte for the encore was an unexpected bonus. Great feedback thanks! Got tix to see them in Bexhill next Sat so sounds promising! I’m liking their new album even if it’s nothing too revolutionary. One of those bands with such a solid backcat and always reliable live. Out of interest did they happen to play Petrol (my fave Ash song)? Hoping that is making this tours likely set list for each date!

Saw them for what I think were their first couple of London shows at Camden Barfly and The Underworld, they were great both times, with the Barfly show being one of my all time favourite gigs. Later I saw them in Leeds, which I guess was the same tour as the Electric Ballroom one above, still pretty good but lost a bit of the magic. Didn't catch them again until they reformed a few years ago. Saw them at Brixton Academy and was throroughly bored. Never recreated the insanity of those early shows and they just seemed to be going through the motions.

If any good FGer lives near Bexhill on Sea and would jump at the chance to see Ash vs The Subways this Saturday 30th Sept please feel free to personal message me as I have a ticket going spare which I will not be reselling so if is first come first served to anyone who wants it (PM me by 10am Sat 30th latest to guarantee I can reply and can sort out with you in time). Bought a ticket to go with a friend for his 40th but he’s now on a 2 month work secondment is Australia so I’m going solo after the missus refused on the basis she dislikes the band (good job she’s got good taste in other areas lol!) and done the rounds with other likelies but no joy so as it stands 1 ticket is going to be wasted! I don’t want anything for it (if you feel you want to give something then I just ask you donate to a charity of your choice whatever amount you want to). I will happily meet you at 7.15pm outside The Pavilion and pass you the ticket (postal ticket so no e transfer available sorry). It is not sold out so if you want to bring others they can still buy their own tickets to come with you too… www.dlwp.com/event/ash-vs-the-subways/Ash have a new album out which is great and sure there will be some classic bangers in there like Girl From Mars, Burn Baby Burn, Petrol, Shining Light… www.youtube.com/channel/UCVXC3_YSmO87ssB7Ez8y4_AAlso looking forward to The Subways at least for some bangers from Young For Eternity!

Off to see PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS tonight. (I could just write Pigs x7 but that way is more fun).
Not sure if I should wear my battlejacket, I like PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS alot but they're a bit of a hipster band and not that edgy.
I've had a couple of beers though so think I will. Maybe somebody will think I'm cool (more likely they'll think look at that sad middle aged cunt).

Can't really articulate it better as I've had four whole beers, but when they hit the deep doomy slow sections they're heavy af, but it's contrasted by their more psychedelic moments. Ultimately they just know what they're doing and do it really well. There's an element of fun that some other doom metal bands lack. I like their records quite a bit, but they're actually better live.

Ash vs The Subways at Bexhill Pavilion last night… great gig!!!
The Subways opened up and despite Bill (great name for a lead singer!) having a cold they went for it… full of energy and very charismatic. Great set with a mix of popular tracks from all albums and the biggest hitters from seminal Young For Eternity album.
Ash fronted up new album Race The Night (which is great!) heavily in their set and smattered in many of their greatest hits. Seasoned pros level performance and Tim was really stretching his vocals.
At the end of Ash set as suggested by the tour name both bands came onstage together to perform both of their hit singles with the same name “Oh Yeah” which was a lot of fun (gotta love dual drummers onstage!). Before closing out with Burn Baby Burn.
8/10 gig for me… really enjoyed it! First time to Bexhill Pavilion for a gig and it’s a GREAT venue!

Municipal Waste tonight. Good excuse to wear the midlife crisis battlejacket. update: managed to scratch my arm putting my battlejacket on. I think some of the studs are pointy. On the inside. Edit 2 And it was a good gig but I've lost my watch. Nothing spectacular, but a good solar powered watch that had lasted longer than anything else I've had. Even though it was good that fact is making me reconsider this going thing. I've had a year of gigs I think I'm now done.
(After the few I've already booked)

There's a weird ettiquette though.
Too old to jump into a circle pit, but frankly if I try and express any movement more than a nod it feels like people just glare. There should be a scale between MOSH and JUST STAND THERE but a lot of gigs, especially metal ones, it just feels binary.
Besides I mainly jumped into the moshpit because there I spotted somebody I know pretty much directly in front of me and I didn't feel like a having a "HEEEY" moment and jumping into the circle pit was the easiest way to get some distance from her.
I actually like her, I just felt awkward as she was there with friends and I was too self conscious dancing there in case she noticed. Easier to just jump into the washing machine for a couple of songs.
Also spent far more than I'd like on a t-shirt just because it has a lIsT oF tOuR dAtEs on the back. FFS. In a way I'm glad it's less common these days, as having that stupid list on the back basically makes the decision between buying or not buying merch.

Saw this tour at Reading, was an incredible gig with all three bands seriously bringing it (good variety of complementary styles too). Was considering going again to the London show. Mates and I weren't planning to mosh but got drawn in more or less as soon as the waste started playing (We're all 40ish) and got away with it!

Started off with the most recent album, which was ok, before firing out a bunch of the old & latter hits. It was great. Part theatre, part great tunes.

Got tickets yesterday for Suede and Manic Street Preachers for July next year. Seen Manics quite a few times, but will be seeing them for the first time in their home nation over in Cardiff Castle. I know Manics will be great, but never seen Suede, so really looking forward to them.
