Pusha t @ Apollo last week. Brilliant but why does half the audience want to record the entire concert? Great show though but only 60 mins long with no warm up, just some music playing over the speaker. He has more than enough material to do a 90-120 minute set.

Booked tickets for the Saturday of Victorious festival and feel a little violated by the price of tickets. Bizarrely enough I'm looking forward to an Alabama 3 acoustic set most of all. Saw them at a festival yonks ago for the lols and they ended up being a highlight of the weekend. Think I've seen them 4 more times over the years and they're always great. It's probably going on for 14 years since the last time, though. It's going to be a pretty different show this time to last, I imagine. 😔

Back from Everything Everything in Exeter Phoenix, that was bloody great. Been a while since I've listened to their earlier stuff (loved their first few albums) and haven't really listened to newer stuff, but getting decent gigs round these parts can be a rarity so we made the effort. Some of the new stuff is very good, and his voice is exceptional live.

Why record it though? It always looks pretty shit when you look back on it. Just enjoy the show you paid for??? I get my phone out once on one of the better songs and film for about 10-20 seconds just to have one little clip that I was there. So many people just hold up the phone for large chunks of the show.

I take a few photos at gigs, but it's either between tracks, or on burst and I just grab the best ones. If I get right down the front I will take a few more, and festivals I have taken my proper camera but always try and not let it be a distraction to anyone behind.
Filming it just seems pointless though. The sound will be shit. You'll watch it once. You'll be distracted during the the show. You're annoying people behind you.

I never film at gigs personally, and most of the times that people try the recordings are unlistenable. But I have seen plenty of live phone footage on YouTube that doesn't sound like arse and I'm kind of grateful for that.
Wonder what they use to record.

Many many years ago when I was a young lad, one of my mates would always randomly shout out "play some jam or I'll fuckin twat you" in between a couple of songs when it was quiet, once per gig. Everyone who asked him why he did this just got a blank look back and no explanation.
Years later I found out that he was always buying bootlegs of gigs he had been to, and hearing that unique phrase meant he had a souvenier of his prescense.

Saw Feeder on Thursday at Trentham Gardens, great venue.
Not super familiar with their stuff other than the singles but they put on a solid show, I was a little disappointed that none of the songs that appeared on Gran Turismo were played.
Jake Bugg was supporting too which was nice though who's idea was it to add The Feeling?

Been at Greenman festival this weekend, don’t think I’ve ever seen so many shite shouty girl indie bands before. How these bands are even signed up is beyond me

Noel Gallagher with Feeder and Goldie Lookin Chain in support at Caldicot Castle last night. Terrific gig! Noel was on good form with good bants and a strong set list. Feeder were solid as usual once Grant settled in as his vocal sound levels were off first few songs again good set. GLC were a great fun opener. Knew nothing about them but came away humming some of their tunes today lol.
Next up is Victorious Festival this coming Sunday. I’m looking forward to the lineup more than the missus but I’m sure it will be a good day as long as the weather behaves…

One of the most random gigs of my life was seeing Feeder play at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in 2021. We came off the 18th green at the end and saw a small crowd of 30+ year old rock chicks standing around in the tented village bit who quite blatantly weren't there for the golf! We had no idea they were playing as it hadn't occured to us there would be entertainment after the event, nice surprise as we were all casual fans from back in the day. Great way to end the day sat chilling on bean bags with a beer with Feeder playing right in front of us.

Must have seen Feeder about 10 or more times now over the years. Such a great indie band… you can do a lot worse than listening through their greatest hits (most recent) album and the last couple of new albums are also decent (not on last hits album).
One of those bands that non long term fans who like indie rock music when they listen to their hits get quickly reminded how many great tunes they have put out over the years!
Grant mentioned on Sat’s gig they are in the studio at the moment finishing up a new album due next year so 30 years and still they keep going strong!

Glad to hear it's still going. The last gig I remember going to there was Robert Plant about 20-25 years ago.

Managed to tick off a bucket list item I didn't know was an option. GZA played Electric Brixton last week and did all of Liquid Swords with a live band, chucking in a few Wu Tang favourites at the end as well.
Nice to be at a gig with people my own age and it wasn't super crowded, easy to get the bar and back into the stalls.

Saturday at Victorious was pretty good, although evenings of festivals aren't a whole lot of fun if you're sober. I've presumably always had drunk cunts pogoing next to me and elbowing people in the face, but must've been too pissed to care (or maybe I was one of those drunk cunts too...)
Natalie Imbruglia went from "I suppose we'll watch her for a minute as there's not much else on" to being one of the highlights. Alabama 3 were decent as always (small acoustic set). I only recognised one of Belle and Sebastian's songs, but still enjoyed the set. Caught the end of Inspiral Carpets and they seemed OK. Kate Nash was absolutely fucking dreadful, but then I've never actually heard any of her stuff before then so didn't know what to expect. Kaiser Chiefs put on a decent enough show. Alt-J were fucking great to finish it all off. (pogoing drunk cunts all seemed to go to Kasabian instead thankfully)
Fucking expensive though. I normally wouldn't mind, but they're so ridiculously OTT about bringing any food or drink in that you have no choice but to pay £15+ per meal.

We were at Sunday at Victorious and highlights for me were:
- Sea Girls - one of the best and reliable indie bands of the last few yrs for me and did not disappoint - committed and well delivered set - Dylan - for pop music… pretty decent that lass… - Ellie Goulding - career spanning decent set - Sigrid - undeniably likeable as always - summery danceable set - missed a few slower songs to vary the set myself but still v good - Mumford & Sons - better than expected since they lost their lead guitarist to cancel culture - passionate and terrific musicians - first time M&S for me and I’d do it again ooh err missus
Letdowns: - Sea Girls clashed with The Enemy so missed them… - Hard-Fi - singer for me has mostly lost it - felt too much like indie punk pop delivered by a dad (sorry if you’re a fan)… not terrible… just not great imo - Comedy headliners… clash with the bands people are there for! Come on organisers why not put your comedy headliners on no later than mid afternoon to give people a chance to see them?
Expensive food/drink and drunk/high idiots sadly the norm… at least the tickets were well priced…
Overall 8/10

Yeah, comedy tent clashing with the common stage felt like a weird bit of planning. We only caught the last few minutes of one of the acts.
Not sure if I'd bother with a full weekend ticket, but I'll probably go again if there are a couple of acts I fancy on one of the days.

Seeing Divide & Dissolve tonight, an instrumental doom band who are totally against any sort of -ism.
There's a much bigger gig going on at a bigger venue down the road. I accidently joined that queue. Realised before reaching the door though.
There is no queue for this gig
It's a small venue and so far quite empty. Less then 20 people so far. I'm here by myself.
Arbor Ale on tap though.
