Pulp are back at the Isle of Wight Festival next year. Can't wait, saw them 10 years or so ago and they were magnificent. Shame it's Robbie Williams closing but otherwise a pretty decent line up.

It is surprising given they are locals. Acts are added all the time but given their status, I am sure they would have been announced as a headliner. Guess we'll see.

Saw Pretty Reckless on Wednesday. Was a bit trepidatious and unsure that a Disney child star, gossip girl actress and model could front a rock band but they were fucking brilliant.
Taylor oozes charisma, has a great voice and puts on a great show. Enjoyed much more than Nightwish and Within Temptation actually, probably as her vocals were so clear. (Also very clearly live, no lip syncing here.)
I would highly rate them if you get a chance. Their last album is a banger as well.

Was a fantastic show and I'd highly recommend anyone that gets the chance to go see them.

Seeing Zeal and Ardor tonight.
Turned up at just past 7 as doors were supposed to be at 7, now I'm in a queue.
Should have stayed at the pub for another pint

Have to admit that they never really appealed to me but I saw the lead singer cover some soundgarden stuff for the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts and she nailed them. Properly made me sit up and take notice. Will have to sit down and give them a proper listen at some point.

Zeal and Ardor was good.
The two backing singers have been stricken down with illness apparently so that was all on playback, but didn't diminish the show.
I actually moshed, which is something no self respecting near 40 year old should do... But then I have no self respect so...!
I'm going to be knackered tomorrow though.

Saxon at the Guildhall in Southampton.
Fuck me, I sang along for 2 songs, bounced around for 10 minutes and am fucking knackered. Lead singer is 71, did a full 2 hour set, never stopped running around, spinning, posing and generally doing good front man stuff and still was singing well at the end. True fucking legends.
Put most 20 year old singers etc to shame.
Go watch, they are awesome.
9/10

I saw Garth Marenghi do a book event on Saturday. It was brilliant. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone so completely inhabit a character as Holness does Marenghi.

I'm off to that there London to see Sigh and Anaal Nathrakh at The Scala on Wednesday.
Actually feeling strange. I think this is excitement and anticipation; a rare feeling for me.
Does the FG hive mind knows anywhere nearby where a middle-aged guy, probably wearing a ridiculous battlejacket, can go for a pre-drink by himself without feeling too out of place?
Or just decent Kings Cross pubs in general?

Of course, there's a good chance Sigh's flight will be cancelled due to the fucking dusting of snow.
Going anyway. I'll just get hammered if the gigs cancelled.
It does feel like the world is conspiring against this gig, train strikes, a bit of snow bringing UK infrastructure to it's knees...
If it all falls apart I'll be quite dissapointed, especially as I've spent too far much money on this.

Just in from Sigh and Anaal Nathrakh.
Fucking awesome.
Sigh sounded incredible. They appeared as a three piece, and I'll admit I was slightly dissapointed that Dr. Mikannibal wasn't in the line up, but Mirai (on bass) was just fucking great. So tight. Their set ran from prog and doom, to black metal, to almost power metal. with 30 years of a diverse back catalogue to pick from it covered ever phase.
Then Anaal Nathrakh.
Fuck that was good. It was weirdly emotional. Dave was visibly grateful for the turnout. It's the first time he's played live in 3.5 years and he thanked the crowd after nearly every song.
But fucking hell, they sounded great. I've seen then live a few times and that might be the best they've sounded. Very tight. Considering they're known for noisy black metal/grindcore, they curated a set list that was full of hooks. Tracks ranged from their early days - Submission is for the Weak, through to classics like Between Shit and Piss We Are Born, newer stuff like Forward too. Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes was an unexpected treat. In the Constellation of the Black Widow. A Pig With Cocks In It's Eyes.
Fucking hell, Endarkenment was cathartic. Still the song that best reflects the last few years in my opinion
And Dave's vocals were incredible. I mean he's known for a range of noises, from shrieking to growls to semi-operatic cleans, but I've not heard him do it so well live before. Even his Rob Halford falsetto got an airing on A Pig With Cocks In It's Eyes and it sounded fucking great. More than once I was awestruck at his vocals.
I really hope this live version does a few more gigs, because it was amazing.

I bought a commemorative t shirt from the merch stand.
I've had to censor it slightly due to the FG policy. But given the song name I mentioned I think you can fill in the rest.
Yeah, fuck knows when I can actually wear it without getting frowns.

SpiralScratchI'm also going to that. Love Orbital. Also bought tickets for Bristol Sounds "A Beautiful Day Out with Levellers" at the amphitheatre, with Levellers, The Selecter, and Goldie Lookin' Chain (who I'm surprised are still around but some novelty Welsh rap can be fun), as well as others.

Sounds like a stonking lineup. I'm not really a fan of the Levellers but bet they put on a good show. Goldie Lookin' Chain are mental and great fun, saw them in about 2003 and it was a wild night

Absolutely shocked that Pitchshifter have reunited, and I would go see them in a second.
I know one Joyce Manor song from their inclusion on the soundtrack to one of the Forza Horizon games.
I've heard of Cancer Bats?
I would pay extra to not see/hear Bob Vylan after their absolute shuttle crash of a performance supporting The Offspring last year.
