You SAY that. Give it a couple of days and you'll start to go "hmm... I wonder if I can beat [insert boss here] easier using [insert weapon here], or trying it as a [insert build here]."

You know, I've never really gone in for the builds thing. Typcailly just do Str or Dex to try out most of the weapons. I did do a Dex/Int build (I think) once in DS to use Velka's Rapier and Moonlight Greatsword. Still didn't bother with magic. That was good though, recommend it. I also did one to use the Greatsword of Artorias, which requires you to spread your points all over the shop. Didn't like the sword in the end, would not recommend

I like how you said you've never really gone for the builds thing, then went on about the different builds you've tried.

Everyone plays it differently, that’s one of the cool things
I always completed them, left that OG character at SL125 and used it for NG+ and beyond
Then I created characters at 30, 60 and 95 to cover the whole gamut of bosses and acted as a summon - which was even more fun than the actual game
DS2 ruined that though with it’s silly ‘Soul Memory’ mechanism:(

Yeah as much as I love DS2, SM fucked everything up. Ds3 isn't any better as it takes into account weapon upgrade level as well as char level. I miss being an OP invader

I never thought I'd see someone admit they didn't like a fair fight.

What's the point in having a fair fight. I can't win those.

Actually, talking of fair fights, I got invaded in Demon's Souls for the first time ever the other day. I was very chuffed. I was farting about down the pit Patches kicks you in and I hadn't illed the red NPC yet. Got invaded but with no sign of the invader I thought I would just take the red phantom on and get out of the pit. Obviously alerted the monks wrap wearing fool to my location so he rofls down into the pit and instead of waiting for me to finish my fight, just joins in and starts spamming me with magic. Because I'm amazing I killed them both at the same time and went straight into smug mode but I had to applaud his dirty tactics. Exactly what I would have done.
Wish there was more invading and helpful phantoms in the remake. Seems really sparse still. A shame.

I've been summoned plenty of times in the remake, but I've never been invaded. Amazing how many people are still playing DS3 though.

DS3 and in fact DS2 are both incredibly busy still it seems.

I am invaded in Demons Souls remake pretty much once per 4 or 5 hour session so odd that others are seeing none

I only got invaded once during my whole play through. I did spend 50% of the time in soul form though

I never seem to get summoned either. Not that most of the bosses NEED being summoned for. I've not done Maneaters yet this playthrough mind you, so I might try my luck outside there. I enjoy a bit of jolly co-op with these games. I think the whole tendency thing as well as lack of eye stones puts most people off from being human.
Although, continuing my bragging from earlier (about how awesome I am now), it was quite nice to roll into Flamerlurker's fight completely unprepared with a shit weapon that took about 60 off a hit, and still manage to kill him. Although I'm pretty sure it wasn't all skill. There was some luck there. If I were to guess, I'd say about 99% luck. I still hate the prick.

My insistence on not using a guide and inability to remember my last playthrough is becoming an issue. Died twice in a row last night in the Catacombs, lost 17k souls. And it wasn't even to an enemy or boss, it was that jump you have to make onto narrow ledges on the way down to the skeleton blacksmith.
Also I may have missed Pinwheel, got lost after killing a titanite demon and ended up backtracking and going through a high fog door which (I think?) leads further on to the really dark bit with giant skellie archers.
At least I killed the demon and got the Furysword up to +5 though.

There was a summon near the skeleton blacksmith bonfire, but I didn't try it because I was exploring rather than making a beeline for the boss. Seen enough to think there's still a bit of jolly co-operation in DS:R though.

If you're not insistent on doing all the exploration yourself, you should pick up summon signs even if you're not going directly to the boss. Helping someone clear the catacombs and find all the loot as a summon is far more rewarding than roflstomping Pinwheel, and I'm pretty sure the person who left their sign there had that in mind.

I suppose I see 'builds' as something different. To me, it was purely to use the weapon I wanted rather than thinking it would change how I'd play the game or anything, hence why I mentioned not bothing with magic despite having the stats for it. If I started a new game now though, it would likely be just straight Str or Dex

Also I may have missed Pinwheel Pinwheel is very close to the skeleton blacksmith. When you exit his room, go right in the pit with the wheeled skeletons until you arrive at some kind of crypt that you have to drop down into.

Ah ok, think I might have got confused and thought that was the tomb of giants. So the other way must be it instead maybe- there was a wall I had to break with a dark drop and skeleton archers behind it. Or maybe it opens up after pinwheel- I'll stop second guessing and just march on

Top tip: when rushing to back out of the dialog box after rating a sign that says "Here!", don't spam the back button, you will roll off the nearby cliff. Got killed by a dog skeleton on my way back, lost 10 humanity and 20k souls. Bloody tomb of giants.

I did spend 50% of the time in soul form though I am pretty much mostly in Souls form - however I find that after beating a boss in the next hour or so after before i have been killed for the 1000th time, I will get invaded in that short time I am in human form. But I have never turned myself back to Human Form with items, only when killing demons. Am about 75 hours in. Been invaded maybe 15 times or so. Using Phantom Cloak when you do is a joy.

I think I'm going to stay human as I go through Latria for a laugh and see what happens.

About half an hour after posting my message, I started downloading DS2... I’ve been having a real itch to replay DS2. But with Elden ring just round the corner I don’t really want to burn myself out. If it's any consolation, I'm currently playing DS2, DS3, DeS and Sekiro, and I still can't wait for Elden Ring. Burnout imminent.
