Story wise I agree with what Jeff Bakalar said in GBs Quick look, the game should have started before the escape attempt.

The opening hour or two feel like a bit of a disservice to the game as a whole really. Once you get better weapons and hit the more challenging enemies it's much more fun, especially in co-op.
It's not brilliant, not by a long shot, but there's a certain charm to it all.

Enjoyed the first couple of hours in co-op. However, the ai is turd and it's way too easy.

Yep that's why I recommend hard. We are flying through this with ease on hard. Shame you couldn't pick the hardest one from the off.

Played some more tonight. It seems to have gotten uglier in places and become more janky. I still can't believe Arkane Austin who made Prey, a fantastic game, made this. It's fucking depressing.

Dishonoured 1&2, prey, deathloop are all amazing but all share something in common with this. Shit a.i. . Still I'm loving this..

Also think all have had tech issues. Prey in particular had a lot of jank going on, with broken quest lines and the like.

Its not that hard to believe. Prey was good despite the absolutely woeful controls and combat. Then they made a looter shooter.

I put an hour into it this morning. Good vibes. Shit controls (thanks to the forumite on the previous page with sensitivity tweak suggestions: game changer!) and some pretty last-gen looking visuals.
Felt myself getting into the rhythm of it by the end of the hour though, out in the town exploring and wotnot. Then got caught on scenery and shoed to death by a bunch of cultists. It's Arkane all right.
I think the lack of shared progression might kill the co-op for me though. I'm pretty sure Far Cry solved that years ago?

Top tip for Xbox pad users, stick Input Response to Low and up the sensitivity to something like 4 or above. Helped immeasurably with the controls for me. Still not great, but better than the utter dogshit they were before. I pushed it up to 4.5 and it felt like that should've been the default! Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I just don't think Arkane can do the fast paced shooty type of stuff. Even Deathloop was only good so long as you were stealthing through it. That's why I never went all out combat in the Dishonored games either. They are very much the wrong fit for this style of game.

Prey just didn’t do it for me, though I did get into Deathloop. Didn’t hold my attention for *that* long but I really admired the style they put together. This is an enormous L for Microsoft, especially after the billions they spent on Bethesda. I don’t really understand how they’re still considered a decent publisher still, other than that there’s a huge amount of momentum behind studio reputations, but they should be considered AA, at best. Mind you, I was never swept away by Skyrim so maybe they were never the studio for me. Forza is a pretty safe bet, no? NO? ?

Forza will be safe.
A French journalist is claiming MS never really cared for this which is one of the reasons they just released it now.

I'm watching videos of people playing this, and to me it looks basically indistinguishable from the half-dozen other "shoot things to make numbers go up" games released over the last 5 years or so. It looks like a game that disappears from your memory the minute you stop playing it.
Which fucking blows, because I loved Prey.

Was playing it yesterday and couldn't help thinking they should have done like State of Decay does and have the different groups around the town.

That is my opinion of this game, I'm playing it but I don't get the feeling I got from something like Prey where I was thinking about it when I wasn't playing it. I'm not doing that here nor am I really thinking about it when I'm playing it really, it's very much a game you play on autopilot I really wish it was better, I really do. There's a good core there but it's marred by systems don't work well together.

It does seem like a bit of a pile on. But it looks absolutely abysmal.

Definitely struggles to hit 30fps consistently on Series S. I don't mind the visuals: it's got that Arkane aesthetic, and reminds me a bit of Sea of Thieves.

I don't suppose the singleplayer is a teeny bit Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines is it? I didn't really have any interest in this... but I suddenly got a craving for atmospheric nighttime vampire action. And in a game. Not as far as I have seen. But there is some kind of story, some environmental storytelling and so on.
You could always try Vampyr though, if you haven't yet. I don't think there are many other games that are particularly close to Bloodlines.

Watching the SkillUp review. The bit about the cinema mission is nuts. Looks extremely not good.

Yeah Vampyr will scratch that itch. I never actually completed it for some reason, but its fun, very atmospheric and original.
