The bow has some good aspects and some great hammers, though. The homing arrow aspect lets you stack curses on enemies so if you have, for example, hangover on special, you can stack it really easily and the autofire hammer is good for applying a lot of burst damage.
All the weapons are decent. My least favourite is the sword as its a bit boring but I couldnt really pick between the rest.
EDIT: stacking curses is worth trying on all rapid weapons. Its good on the gun, too.

More sound advice there sir. Will definately try the stacking options next time I have a run with the bow.

I don't dislike any of them and have made it out with all at least a few times now but haven't found a bow build that feels really good, whereas I've been able to build some crazy builds around the others. Up to heat 12 on the rail though so that's probably my favourite. Or maybe just the easiest to use.

The best Hermes one is the one that just gives you money each chamber. Can absolutely rinse Charon for items.

No favourite weapons (although my one win was the sword) - as others have said I pick the bonus one each round. Actually love how each creates such a different run. For boons I had largely ignored Hermes but will start giving them a go following comments above!
Just started a new run with the shield and see now what this 'heat' level is all about. I can see this game taking up a lot of time..!
Earlier I made a first attempt at Charon which didn't end well.

I would never take Hermes while other god boons are on offer personally, but if he shows up when the other chamber rewards aren't boons I will always go for him.

I'd take him over Aphrodite. And possibly Athena if I already have shield dash.

What's this duo stuff that keeps popping up? Am I supposed to be picking boons with that in mind?

Duo boon is a (sometimes) strong boon that you get when you have the right combination of gods and boons. Like I generally pick Athena's call and Zeus's cast which more often than not gives you lightning rod eventually which is strong enough to carry you through the entire game.

I've not had an achievement pop up on this despite making through Tartarus - is that to be expected?

If playing on Xbox : quick resume broke achievments, if you quit all the way out (home page/ manage game/ quit), next time you play should get some pop up.

Oh, that would make sense. Now you mention it, I don’t think many/any have popped and I’ve had the good ending.

Finally got through to the final boss on my 33rd play through and died with about 25% left on their life bar. I wasn’t even that confident of the run as I never got Athena’s Divine Dash but had loads of buffs on the Special, inc Deflect. I think I just played slower which isn’t a bad technique. Also didn’t have any of those pink Butterfly balls in Elysian that I hate. Absolutely love this game - will get there soon

What's this duo stuff that keeps popping up? Am I supposed to be picking boons with that in mind? IIRC somewhere in game tells you what the required boons you need are for them to show up. Once you have both boons there's a reasonable chance for a reward from one of those gods to roll as the Duo boon.

Finally took out spear cunt and his faithful sidekick, managed to do it with the sword.
It's my least used weapon and a absolutely smashed them with it. Fired pretty promptly in lvl 4.

Had a good session on this last night: decided I'd give the bow a second chance, and whether it was the luck of the draw, but I added boons to its special which added 'Doom' to anything it hit. Spray and pray, shade-fuckers.

Doom is pretty fun early game but it scales really badly late game as it adds flat damage amounts rather than scaling from your own base attack Tear through the early phases and then bosses take forver. The blade rift builds can be fun though.

I can't see the point in it.

I did it! Fists with emphasis on attack and deflect boons, and I got lucky with a legendary Divine Protection boon from Artemis that negates an incoming hit and recharges after 20 seconds. Really thought I'd screwed the run by accidentally using the Lucky Tooth in Tartarus, but I kept it for the whole thing, and didn't use up any Death Defiance until the 4th level anyway. Didn't use Cast once, but the run really took off when I picked a Heroic level Cast and very soon afterwards purged it for a load of coins. Also, thanks to MolarAm🔵 and Bongo Heracles for saying take your time with Hades and try to get rid of the skulls, that advice was golden.

Everyone thinks the little diamond think you throw is shit though, right? I can't see the point in it. The cast? Even without boons it's good because with the mirror it makes you do 50% more damage to whatever you hit with until it pops off again. You should always be hitting whatever you're trying to kill with a cast first. You can then build heavily into it if you want, many of those are crazy, especially Ares ones where you create blade rifts which can suck enemies in and then do more damage the longer the enemy is inside. The Hera and Poseidon aspects for Bow/Sword respectively can also be devastating with cast builds.

Main tip for Hades himself - pay attention to the kind of white wind circle thing that appears around him. It's the tell that he's going to do his big spin attack. When you see it, wait a moment then dodge TOWARD him, not away. Since he moves toward you with the spin, by dashing toward him you'll put far more distance between the two of you.

The cast is great once you've unlocked 3 of them and upgraded the damage multiplier thing.

Yeah, the best duo boons pimp your cast a fair bit. The Demeter lasers just don't track fast enough on their own but the duo makes them crazy. Another good one is the one that makes Ares spinny circles home in on enemies.

I only really bothered with casting when I had the weapon (One of the bows? I forget) that launches your diamond things when you attack. I think one of the spear aspects works well with it too.

Worth getting in the habit of sticking one in whatever you're fighting at any given time; a damage buff is nothing to sniff at.

I guess the normal casts just feel a bit... tacked on? I don't really know how to describe it, but there's just something about them that (imo) doesn't really fit with the flow of the gameplay.

For me it's literally a buttons issue. I can easily attack and dash when I need to. I can fit in the odd special attack at an appropriate time (but have to admit, the dash-special attack of the fists is also under-used). But casting at at appropriate time on top of all that is one too many inputs to manage when I'm in the middle of a mob of enemies frantically trying to not die.
Maybe I'm just old. I can still remember Michelle's 10 hit combo from Tekken 2, and that was a combination of 4 buttons...
