Excuse me, is this the Celebrity Non-death Thread? /j (all joking aside, I fully agree with her motive, but faking your death -even for a noble cause-... I dunno, feels like it would have the opposite effect, at least with some people) Ahh yes the noble cause of getting attention to yourself. Sorry, I meant putting attention of cervical cancer because obviously no one is aware of it. No one. Just like all the other cancers. What a brave noble soul she is. Look, it's cancer, I'm inclined to be a little more accepting if some more awareness is indeed raised even if that wasn't her reason after all, sue me 😅

You say that but the attention hasn't gone on cervical cancer. It's gone on her and her main character energy stunt. If anything is remembered it will be this stupid attention seeking shit rather than this form of cancer.

I'm with Jambo - she seems like a big enough name to have drawn attention to the issue of cervical cancer in umpteen other ways, but she chose to make it all about herself first and foremost.

Wait... cancer is a disease?!
Now I know why people gave me funny looks when I told them my star sign without any context.

Last of the original cast, mind you he was only 22 when he started in Dads Army. 1970's TV at it's best. RIP.

I just watched TTSS again a few months ago. RIP, he was a whole lot more than an Only Fools actor.

Pretty amazing career, nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1956 for Bus Stop, with Marilyn Monroe, and made it all the way to 2024. Just shy of 70 years ago. Bonkers.
His character in Twin Peaks also may or may not be the boxer Sarah Palmer / Judy is watching as it necks bloody marys and changes the timeline, but that's another matter.

very much a niche one for the tech nerds of a certain age but as a tech nerd of a certain age I've just learned* that (a) Dr Solomon was a real person (being the eponymous Dr Solomon Anti Virus) and (b) he's just died
fuck cancer
*only citation I can find is graham cluley who tech nerds of a certain age may remember from sophos at abingdon

Steve Wright, 69. Used to listen to his afternoon show after school... Uzi 9mm! Loved his interview with Ozzy too Same, it's actually comes a a bit of a shock. Can still remember the jingles... "Steve Wright in the afternoon, Always there but over too soon, Makes me feel over the moon, Steve Wright in the Afternoon." Jingle and eulogy, right there.

Steve Wright, 69. Used to listen to his afternoon show after school... Uzi 9mm! Loved his interview with Ozzy too For the first five years or so of going out with my wife she kept putting on a Steve Wright - Sunday Love Songs CD in the car... not remotely my thing and I can't say I ever listened to his show, but he seemed like one of the good guys, and he's firmly embedded in my brain because of that fucking CD.

That’s really come out of the blue. My wife listens to his shows when she’s gardening and we used to have his weekday show on when I worked on a mobile library. He’s never sounded older or unwell or anything recently either too.

Same as others, used to listen to him rather a lot in my teens but certainly moved away as I got older. So a part of my childhood gone that's rather sad.
Always seemed to be a good bloke and well liked by those who worked with him.
