His appearance on Newsnight against some cunt, talking about his addiction, really impacted me. About 6 months later, my mate admitted he was an alcoholic and if it wasn't for Perry's explanation I'd have probably reacted differently.

Adam Johnson of the Nottingham Panthers has died after a horrific neck injury on the ice last night, apparently took a skate to the neck during a game against Sheffield Steelers.

Watching Chandler and the rest of the gang on Channel 4 with family and the missus at the time will forever be ingrained in my mind.

I still quote the series by heart on occasion (as some of you may have seen here)... I watched it so much growing up (DadFE got me the full 10-season box set as a Christmas gift  ) that I believe it's one of the first reasons why spoken English comes so naturally to me even now! One of the sites reporting on it had a picture from a point in the series when Joey and Chandler were living separately (after Joey's success in Days of Our Lives) and it was Joey looking at the empty chair next to him all sad  |

Yeah, Perry was by far my favourite on Friends. Everyone has their own views on the show, my Dad couldn't stand it. But it was a big part of TV for me growing up, watching repeats every day after school.

That’s so sad to hear about Adam J too! Surely with a neck strap required to secure their helmets an adaption to pass down and protect the neck could also not be developed and required for pro play?

Steelers player was tripped and during fall his leg goes up and stabbed/slashed the panthers player. Player was fucked almost immediately as the arterial bleed was exacerbated both effort of getting up and skating to the player box and then by chest compressions which then sped up blood loss. Sad event. |

Why would anyone think chest compressions were a good idea? Bizarre and probably just from panic I'd imagine, not that anything was probably going to save him at that point anyway.

I’m assuming those pro skates are considerably sharper than the type you get at ice rinks, otherwise those would be blood baths.

Absolutely gutted about Matthew Perry.
For a huge part of my life Friends was (and sometimes still is) always on in the background - it's the most 'Comfort TV' I can think of. Used to binge the box-sets with my own friends and we still throw quotes and GIFs at each other in WhatsApp and real life fairly regularly.

Yeah, I got together with my wife a few weeks before the last episode. I'd seen the odd episode, generally not a fan, but she was very much like you guys. Always the go-to for comfort tv, especially if stressed or anxious. Basically has it on rotation.

My wife was already a huge fan when we met in '97, I became a fan via osmosis over the next few years and I think I was watching it with her by 2000ish. But of course, as seems to be the common thread, repeats were the comfort TV of choice over the next couple of decades and so I'm sure I must have seen every episode by now. Chandler was 100% the best character in the show and the Chandler + Joey storylines were always my favourites. Really sad news |
