When Diana died, there was nowhere to hide. It was relentless. Everybody was broadcasting it all the time everywhere.

It was kind of great for the radio. Radio 1 played ambient music for like three days. Ive never heard The Orb on drivetime before.

I'm a bit of a broken record on this, but the country seemed to collectively lose it's mind when Diana died. It wasn't just grief. People lost the plot.
I imagine for the Queen, for certain people, it's going to be an order of magnitude worse.

I imagine for the Queen, for certain people, it's going to be an order of magnitude worse. It was weird, and it was very hard to not think about it being a bit performative. People doing their best to site just how darned well they can mourn. Mourning as a competition. And yep, we'll definitely see the same this time. |

The Diana thing came out of the blue and that's always going to lead to a different reaction. Seems like a very different situation to me. |

Diana wasn't in the middle of the worst economic crisis in...well...forever. or during a war. Or at a time of general apathy. I'd even say this year's Jubilee was muted compared to the bollocks of 2002 and 2012.
People will be sad but "old woman dies of being really old" doesn't really bring the nation together when it can't feed its kids.
