I think he was David Chase's first choice for Tony, but he didn't want to get typecasted into mafia roles so he passed, and we got a stellar performance from Gandolfini.
His role in Many Saints was like a rectifying of his passing on it originally.

Ah man, not Ray Liotta 🙁. Me and my mates loved Goodfellas back in my school days, we used to quote that and similar stuff at each other all the time. Plus, Tommy Vercetti, still my favorite GTA lead character and some quality voice work from Liotta.

You would have imagined Fletcher would have been the last of Depeche Mode to go, not the first.
The went downhill after Alan Wilder left but for 11 years they really were fantastic. Especially the run of Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, Violator then Songs of Faith and Devotion.
That's a fairly spectacular series of albums.
