My exercise this weekend consisted of digging / moving multiple tons of rock and gravel. Too old for this shit. Slept nearly 10 hours last night and still fucking ruined. Are you in a prison chain gang?

Are you in a prison chain gang? I wish. They rules to ensure they only do a certain amount of work per day / get adequate breaks. I just have my stupid brain telling me to stop being so pathetic and to get on with it.

I swam a mile this morning for the first time in at least 2 years. I was so much slower than I used to be, still got it done though. Previously on a normal day I'd have done it in 32 mins, on a good day I could have done 27 mins. Today was 40 minutes as I was just generally slower and had to stop for a few quick rests. Not bad though, I'm OK with it. I can only improve. Good work. My shoulder is almost at the point that it doesn't hurt too much anymore and had a bit more range of movement, so hoping to get back in the pool this week. I am weak as a kitten now so not expecting much.

I'm very jealous. Still too much of a pussy to venture back into the pool...despite taking my son to swimming lessons.

Tried a hiit class for the first time in about three months earlier. Apparently it was for beginners, but fifteen minutes into the 25 minute set I went a bit faint and had to have a lie down. My girlfriend feared my blood pressure must have dropped and literally rushed over to try and feed me cake.
Not the best start.

Shit happens. Just rest up well and keep being active.
On the plus side, cake is great and it's even better when you need it.

So... anyone tried SARMs before? I'm tempted.

Fun times. Also, still banned in all competition sports, so there's that. Tbh, I think I'd rather just do the work.
Speaking of which, I did my first gym sets of the year on Monday (having to be pretty careful because of the collapsible knee) and I have the worst doms ever. It wasn't easy to get through the Wednesday sets this morning. Ouch.
It'll all be worth it, or something.

Had my weigh in. 2.3kg lost in 20 days. I'm hoping now I'm putting some exercise time in that will ramp up a bit. Losing 4kg over January as a whole seems like a reachable target.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Picked up the weights last night for the first time since I had Covid and I'll be fucked if I haven't lost around half of my strength.
I feel like I got a good workout in (hard not to when your limits are so low) but I made the mistake of focusing on chest for the feel good factor and it was terrifying feeling the support muscles in my arms completely let me down. I'd never considered the fact that I'd got strong wrists before but I can feel it now they're gone.
Hoping I'm back on form soon. Has anyone else ever had a long break and come back from it? Tips, stories?

Start slow, reduce weight and volume and build up slowly over a few weeks. Expect DOMS. That's about it. It'll come back quick enough.

Yeah despite doing a chest workout I've got DOMs in my arms. I don't hate DOMs though if I'm honest
This was my first long break since I first started seriously working out. What's interesting is that I really couldn't tell from looking in the mirror just how much muscle I was losing, I thought I was doing OK. I'm glad I didn't wait any longer

You won't have lost muscle after a few weeks off. It's just strength and technique that'll suffer. It'll come back.
And chest pressing will recruit the triceps so that's perfectly normal.

It's been several months to be honest. Stopped due to having Covid which became "might as well enjoy Christmas then"

Ah, fair enough. You still won't have lost much. It takes a while, and what's needed for maintenance (both from exercise and diet) is far less than needed to create new muscle.

You weren't kidding about DOMS. Is the consensus that you can work through them or is it an indication that you should rest?

Just do lighter stuff until they're gone. Moving will help.

Be sure to whinge when moving too. Especially when sitting/standing and reaching for stuff.
That's my favoured technique to wind the missus right up! :-)

I never whinge when reaching for breasts.
Chicken, of course, for the extra protein gainz.

Four week Dry January weigh in - lost half a stone. Nothing dramatic but if I can lose half a stone every month that's a step in the right direction.

I think I've drunk more in January than I did in December.

I'm down 4.5kg since Jan 3rd, which is my Xmas weight. Gonna continue for a few more weeks before switching back to maintenance and focusing on mass gain, then do another deficit before a wedding in Sept, then finish off the year gaining again.

I had a nasty chest infection that kept me mostly immobile for the fist couple of weeks of the month. Now I'm moving a bit more I'm hoping the metabolism will kick in over Feb.
Best weight management tool I had was having my girlfriend move in and stopping me from ordering from Uber Eats every other day.

Possibly a(nother) stupid question but how do you gain mass at maintenance? I did a 30 minute erg session on Wednesday with a few guys from my rowing crew, managed 7754m which isn't bad and burned 600kcal.
