Finally weighed myself after Christmas. Appear to have gained 2kg in about 2 weeks 😐 I haven't checked mine yet but I'll be happy with only 2kg 🙈😱

Mine was about 2kg too, but that was on top of another 2kg since the summer. Cutting out the crap and cutting back on the booze will help somewhat. It's lunchtime that I find hardest. I do love me some bread.

2KG doesn't seem like a huge amount. Although my scales are totally shit and can have that kind of variance between a few days, so I guess wouldn't seem like much to me if I'm used to that kind of fluctuation.
Any recommendations for really accurate bathroom scales? Bluetooth/BMI etc aren't as important really, I'd rather just have some that I can actually rely on for weight readings.

Yeah I guess it could be worse, but it's just galling how putting on a kilo a week is very easy, but losing it is not. Stupid biology.

It is but one thing I've learned is you can always start today. So you put on 2kg. Have you lost 2kg before? If yes, you can absolutely do it again. Just be consistent and maintain what you're doing. Don't beat yourself up for a bad week or even a bad month.
The good thing is you checked, you are aware of it and now you can choose to do something about it.
I was mid range 74kg in November, then have hopped back up to top end of 75kg. Curiously, since my mum's brain started really going down the pan. But I've also been lifting more and am now up to the point of being semi credible in the gym.
Do your clothes still fit? Do you need to buy bigger ones? If the answers are Yes and No, you're fine.

Depends how you define "fit" but more or less.

Is there a way to squeeze it into other activities? EG - watching TV. Maybe get the wife to help spot you or just use it as a bonding thing.

Just got myself a captain's of crunch grip doodad as they're highly recommended, and my grip is a bit rubbish.
Call me crazy, but if I was designing one of these I probably wouldn't choose to have the grip be as comfortable to hold as a fucking wood rasp!

Depends how you define "fit" but more or less. Then don't be so hard on yourself. Get a calorie counting app, eat some more fruit and veg (or have 1 veggie day per week) and manage it. Since back end of 2021 I've gone from 86kg down to about 74/75kg. Am I perfect? No. I'm still doughy around the middle because I'm 5ft5 and there's only so many places it can go. But I can run 5k in 26 mins and squat more than my own bodyweight so that's decent. You're not going to be perfect unless it's your job or you've got an unhealthy obsession.

Gym was ok at 2:30 pm today. Guess most folk are back at work. 😀
No idea how busy my usual time will be. That's for next week.
It did sadly get shit up when the broccoli hair teenage bros rolled in for the usual teen gym at half 3. Didn't stay for much longer after that. Wish I had remembered that was happening, and would have gone a bit earlier!

Lapsed since my late summer holiday. I got around to it and worked arms. I feel as weak as a kitten, it's insane what you lose. But it's not my first go around and I know it comes back quite quickly. I really like the new weights though, cast iron is much nicer to throw around

Bought some cheapish dumbbells, just 6kg, but frankly as I'm really quite weak that's more than enough to start with.
Have to say cycling back with them in my backpack was interesting. Not exactly hard but definitely more exertion, but most it was the concerning realisation that my brakes can't deal with an extra 12kg worth of inertia.
Fortunately it's mostly uphill so not too many hairy moments.

I went to play table tennis with my boy, my brother and his boy a couple of days ago. His boy filmed me and my bro playing on his phone, I've just been sent the video and had one of those proper "fucking hell I did not think I looked that bad" mortified moments. The kind of moment I avoid looking at any family photos that feature me at this time of year for. I think I am now the heaviest I've been for 5 years, to go with that I'm thinning very badly on top (that I never see myself on a day-to-day basis, obviously, so it's a shock to see it properly), and developing the family-jowls that run through my Dad's side of the family.
I fucking hate what I've just seen, genuinely, it's depressing. I've just sat there in facepalm position for the past 5 minutes. All I can do is turn it into motivation to get it sorted from today onwards.

Bought some cheapish dumbbells, just 6kg I went for the other extreme and got a pair of adjustable dumbbells that go up to 32.5KG each, which I realised when they arrived was total overkill. There are a couple of extra boxes with weights in them that'll probably never even get used.

For me in early 2020 it was a mate having a word, he said he was looking at some old holiday photos and how much I had "changed", and I knew exactly what he meant. It was a big deal having someone giving me a heads up like that and I went on to lose four stone over lockdown.
You could end up looking back at that video with a smile because of how much you've achieved since then. Try to turn that embarrassment into motivation

Man, my shoulder joints are piss weak. Going to take a long time to build those up to anything meaningful. Plus more physio I guess.

Rest day today. Much needed. Did 1 mile sprints at 8 min 40 on treadmill and my calf was not wanting to play ball.
Shoulders are bossing it though.

Anyway, managed another walk up the hill on Thursday, and did another few kms on the City to Sea route until we got rained off. Ended up in a pub though, so probably cancelled it out. Need to get some proper exercise though.

I need to get back in shape, after a year of mainly working from home, and especially after xmas and new year.
But the main other factor was I had a hernia op at the beginning of last year and that meant I couldn't exercise for about 3 months. After that I started going to the gym for a month or two, but then it started to hurt again so I stopped out of caution.
So now I'm trying to restart exercise yet again, but being very cautious about anything that puts too much strain on the lower abdomen, especially twisting. Which rules out a lot of stuff. Plus it's winter, so motivation to do stuff like running or cycling is rock bottom.
Diet is probably the main thing, but it's also the thing I'm entirely useless at right now.

Well I did two workouts last week having been off it for a few months. Oh my God, the DOMs were something else. I thought I was lifting pretty light and nothing suggested anything was going wrong during, but two days later my arms were completely stuck at a 90 degree angle and they're only just starting to feel normal again. Seriously painful and I haven't been able to lift since.
Let this be a lesson to anyone getting back into the grind, take it fucking easy to start with
