USPS rates to the UK have become crazy expensive in recent years.
I used to order a lot of CDs from the US, but it's never worth the shipping fees nowadays.

Tried to buy some cycling shite and the postage costs just put it into the nope range. I did get some stuff in the end, but apparently if it's above a certain threshold you need to pay import tax on top even for just a coupe of items of clothing etc which pushes it into the 'fuck that' range. Once again, fuck you brexiteers.

Especially if they've accidentally been fitted with canisters of propane.

Has the algorithm at Reddit changed recently? Seems to be presenting me more and more feel bad stuff.
Wonder if it’s just because I’ve joined the wrong subs to be honest. But it was always the best social media for presenting me with ‘relevant to my interests’ stuff and now I’m just bummed out.

I deleted Reddit for that reason. I think if you stop on any one bad thing, even if you don’t react or respond to it, it becomes part of the algorithm because the shock held your attention. I was getting bombarded with all kinds of miserable crap in the end.
I now just use the web browser version and only if a google suggests Reddit has an answer to a query I have.

Oh god, don't use the app! There's a reason they made the third party apps not work a year or so back, so they could push what they want. But there are ways to still use the third party apps.

It's genuinely something to do with this www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/aug/13/donald-trump-usps-post-office-election-fundingIt might not be that exact thing, but Trump defunded the USPS and deregulated something or other which has caused deliveries involving the US to all shoot up through the roof.

In laws are here. I’m so sick of seeing them over the last 6 weeks. The good thing is they live about 180 miles away so this’ll be the last time until Christmas.
They sit in the sofa like they own the place, drink my whiskey, eat my food all while being irritating. I’ve never known anyone to eat as loudly as they do.
Just two more days and one evening. I’m choosing to go the office Monday to avoid them.
They’ve spent the last two hours catching up on Emmerdale.

Wife had us visit them, then a week away all together now they’re down here.
It doesn’t help that now I also have Covid so am extra grumpy because I’m not allowed to sit in peace.
Can’t hide the whiskey, they’ll go mental.
Extra fun that the brother in law and his wife might be visiting as well for the first time ever this weekend. Him and my wife haven’t spoken in 9 years.

Lost my debit card on my walk this morning. Threatened to rain so was wearing waterproof trousers, so used my slim wallet because the waterproofs are incompatible with my wallet chain.
Must have got pulled out of pocket when I was checking my phone.
Blocked the card and ordered a new one. In theory the bank will update companies I have a recurring card payment with, but experience has shown most don't actually bother so I'll have to manually fucking update the payment sections.
By my reckoning theres 6 payments to charities and subscriptions, so I'll just wait and see who gets in touch to complain the payment is blocked.
The lesson here is don't forsake the wallet chain (or I could stop being a luddite and only use phone payments. Which I have set up. But I'd still need a wallet for the chain to attach to).
This is incredibly first world problems I know.

People need to have a fucking wash before they get on public transport, for fucks sake.
Across two buses and the coach I just boarded today, I've had basically five minutes where I haven't been able to smell other people.
And my sense of smell is pretty awful since covid at the best of times.

Personal hygiene does seem lacking these days. Our last intake of PhD students a couple of years ago had two who reek. This was never an issue before.
Wtf is wrong with people these days? There would be the occasional stinker, but two at the same time? Sadly, both work on the same floor as me. So some days, it's a double stench tag-team if you walk the wrong corridors or take the lift at the wrong time.
🤢

Cheese? As if I'd be caught dead eating any variety of that shit.
My own fault for clearing my sinuses before travelling I suppose.
