It’s just a guess but I would be astonished if it was less than that

Is there any chance of a Three coming to replace the Play:3? Feels like a very big gap between One and Five now that a smaller £329ish speaker would nicely fill.

The newer Ones are pretty punchy sounding considering their size. I don't really think there's a particular signifcant space for a product in between. Especially when you factor paring units up in stereo.

I bought a refurbished Move recently and it serves as a great solution for music in my kitchen and garden.
I thought about a One in the kitchen, then a Roam for the garden, but I figured the Move would offer better outdoor sound than the Roam, and more versatility / better sound than the One for use around the house.
A bonus I didn't even consider when buying is that I can group the Move with my Beam and have TV audio play through the Move anywhere I want it.

In what scenario would that be useful?

Things like sports, so I can listen to the commentary in the kitchen whilst cooking or making drinks.

Radio is really good for that, as they know you can't see what happening. Just saying.

That's true, if the particular sport event is covered on the radio. I more just meant so I can have the same commentary on throughout the downstairs.
I suppose the TV / Beam could also act like a port, for devices that can plug into the TV but not into a Sonos speaker, such as a record player. I believe only the Sonos Five has a line in.
Edit: I've just been looking into using using either the Move or the Roam as a Bluetooth "line in" port, and you can with the Roam, making the cheap Roam SL a fairly cheap option to connect, say, a Bluetooth-enabled turntable to your Sonos system.
Unfortunately you can't do this with the Move, but it's a requested feature, although I doubt Sonos will bother their arses to implement it.

This has been confirmed to be the Sonos Ray, a new entry-level soundbar. Shockingly, it doesn't have HDMI and only has an optical connection, nor does it have a built-in mic and voice assistant. It also only has 2 front-facing speakers and 2 tweeters. It's clearly targeted at smaller TVs / smaller rooms, but at £279, I've got no idea why you'd choose this over a refurbished Beam gen 1 for £269, which has more speakers (2 of which fire sideways), has HDMI ARC, and has voice assistant functionality.

Didn't realise you could get a Beam for similar. It's a very odd choice, they can't have saved that much by limiting it to optical

Its for bedrooms/the kids, I think. Even a beam is more black plastic than most people would probably want in the boudoir. They probably also have shittier TVs, hence no arc. Odd, though. Same with the roam, its entering an absolutely saturated market. There are a billion (approx) soundbars at that price, so you would have to be firmly buried in the ecosystem to want it.
Disappointed its not the long awaited mini-sub but hey ho.

I get the impression Sonos' strategy is to offer as many different points of entry into their ecosystem as possible... Once you buy one Sonos speaker, you're naturally inclined to add another Sonos speaker to your system (rather than another incompatible brand) and before you know it you've spend £2k on Sonos speakers.
Even if you start at the cheaper "gateway" options such as the Roam or the Ray, Sonos have you on the hook.

Yeah, I suspect thats also reason for the ikea partnership. You have to give a product in each space, I suppose.
Im kind of looking forward to seeing the headphones. If you do have a beam, a ray, an arc or whatever attached to all your TVs, the headphones would be a good if laggy way to be able to watch a bit of telly at night.

I didn't know about the headphones. I just bluetooth my headphones to my TV, but it would be elegant to simply connect your headphones to your Sonos system and listen to whatever's playing, and obviously great for people without a bluetooth-enabled TV.

Disappointed its not the long awaited mini-sub but hey ho. Maybe they're saving that for the 25th May? I quite like the new Roam colours, but I bought a white Roam last month. There's also a new Sonos voice assistant but it's US/France only for now.

The Verge has an article with an idiotic render of the upcoming Sub mini:

It's a very odd choice, they can't have saved that much by limiting it to optical I’ve got one of these on pre-order for the bedroom and putting the ‘one’ that’s there currently into the new nippers room. If it offers Beam, or even slightly sub-beam levels of performance then I’ll be happy. I ended up getting a beam for my office as it slips quite nicely under the monitor and it’s awesome in that setting. Once it arrives, apart from bathrooms, I’ve finally got a speaker in every room. Doing the housework is a tad less painful and that’s my justification..!!

Once you've got every room sorted, you start on creating stereo pairs!
(And after that start adding subs)

So I'm pretty stupid when it comes to audio tech but I know when I want something even if I don't know why.
I looked at the new Sonos sound bar and I'm interested. Is there a reason I'd get something else? Should I wait and get the more expensive version if it gets cheaper? Any thoughts? Thanks!

puddleduckBit of a loaded question, but I'd say you can't go too far wrong with a Sonos soundbar. For me, the best things about my Sonos Beam are that it's a no-fuss solution for both my TV sound and music in my front room. It automatically wakes from standby when I turn on my TV, or when I tell it to play music from Spotify. It's completely passive and unobtrusive and it sounds great. My brother was looking for a new speaker to play music in his apartment, and was so impressed by my Beam that he's thinking of buying one just for music. Are you looking to get more speakers around your home and play the same music on all speakers, say, when hosting a party? Also, do you want to use your soundbar as your "hifi"? As I said above, if it was my money, I'd buy a Sonos Beam from their refurb store for £10 less than the Sonos Ray. Their refurbished products are as new, just like Apple's.

Thank you, didn't think about a refurb!
So it would go under the TV and replace the Alexa that's connected to two speakers as the main sound option in the living room/open plan dining room.
There's a chance I'd want to add more speakers in future in other rooms. At the moment there's a variety of different Alexas dotted through the house and the sound from them doesn't satisfy me ha

Sounds like fertile ground to get a Sonos Beam / Arc and add then 2x Sonos One SLs as surrounds.
Sonos products are only compatible with other Sonos products (it's a closed ecosystem) so you'd have to ditch your Echo Dots (or whatever they are) or find another use for them, but you could replace them with some relatively cheap Sonos Ones, which sounds great.
One thing to note is that Sonos speakers don't have bluetooth and rely on a home wifi network, apart from the Sonos Roam and Move. I have a Sonos Move which has a battery and bluetooth, making it a great option both indoors and outdoors - I use mine in my kitchen, then in the garden if the weather's nice.

Good shout on the refurb stuff darkling. Currently we have a Arc+Sub downstairs and a IKEA shelf in the kitchen Toying with how to do the bedroom. The TV is connected to an AppleTV so part of me thinks it would be cheaper to get 2 of the ikea speakers and use them as a shelf either side of the bed and then use that for the audio... but I also think it would look a bit ugly and just put the Beam under our bedroom tv (40" so it shouldn't look too weird)

The Sub mini has just passed FCC certification. Should release within the next 2 months now.
