Your poor dog definitely has sad eyes because of it.
'sir, this attire is beneath both of us.'

He's a cavapoo as well isn't he? Regular grooming is definitely the way to go. That they don't shed they can easily start stinking and develop hot spots too which is fucking awful. Sorry, missed this. Seems that is the answer - he's not a fan though as my mum couldn't do it, so he was never groomed as a pup. We'll keep trying... I think we have identified the main source of the smell. It's the overgrooming of his paws and pads. Bought some stuff to dissuade him from licking them, which works for a bit but then he goes back to it after it's worn off. More research needed imo.

Ears for cavapoos get smelly too. There's stuff you can get called stinky stuff that really helps.
Definitely get him down the groomers for a regular trim, stops them cleaning themselves as much.

If he's licking at his paws a lot and they smell bad, he's probably got a yeast/fungal infection. It's pretty common.
Elsewhere on the body there's shampoos and stuff you can get, but on the paws, might need the vet to look.

Cheers - I think it's probably just habit, he's always done it, but will have a butchers. Need to look at other types of cut too - groomer does a lamb cut for him but that keeps his paws long.

It's pretty easy to spot. Basically, his pads shouldn't be either all red or swollen like... (spoilered, cos)

They're definitely not like that - all seems fine tbh. But I've bought some antifungal shampoo anyway, can't hurt!

Just keep an eye out as that can cause hotspots and they aren't pleasant.

We love our little Wilma to bits, but in the last few weeks she has started to bark at EVERYTHING. She barks at every little noise, which I can kind of understand, but also completely random as well. 20 people exiting buildings don't faze her at all, but the 21st she wants to devour. Dozens of children, making noise and jumping around: don't care. The next child, just walking down the street: you must die.
Just now, she fixated something across the (empty!) park and started barking ceaselessly at it. I didn't see what she was barking at. I did a 180 and had to pull her away with the leash. After a minute, she saw something else nonexisting in another direction and lost her mind again.
Our dog trainer said to throw treats on the ground and make her look for them, or pull out a toy and start playing with her to distract her and also create positive connections with these situations.
A few more weeks though and I'll be known in the neighbourhood as the idiot who can't control his dog.
Is that just a phase (she's 4.5 months now)?

ozthegweatIt's likely, yeah. As for the idiot who can't control his dog, presumably anyone sensible will be able to see she's only a puppy and you're not walking a never trained adult. Regarding the barking itself, it can be allsorts of things. Most puppies go through a demand barking phase, so she could be just excitedly trying to get your attention, like "look at this! no, look at THIS!", which will definitely pass. Or she could just be really vocal sometimes or in particular situations, which might not pass, but you can train appropriately.

This is why I will never get a cat flap installed.
Always check for stuff in the mouth before letting ours in. Oh you have a moustache today, no entry for you Molly. Until that mouse is dead or has escaped...usually towards the neighbours house.
Sorry for your possible mouse infestation neighbours.

can't be beyond the wit of man* to train a model on difference between cat and cat-with-presents, load that onto a raspberry pi, a webcam, and a servo to open or lock the cat flap accordingly?
* obviously beyond the wit of me, I'm merely the ideas man taking the credit and the money and the fame

Set up some little scales on either side. Where weight of cat that left = weight of cat coming in, open door.

Anyone with any experience of Co-Op pet insurance?
Looking to change cover as the cost for our Bernese has gone from £60 a month to £140 with ManyPets and we just can't afford to keep his current condition (mild elbow dysplasia) covered under insurance.
Co-Op are offering a seemingly great price of £40 a month but reviews are tough to check on TrustPilot as all their insurances are bundled into one company.
I'm also looking at Napo and PurelyPets (£60 and £50 a month respectively) - the former seems really good, especially from user reviews on TrustPilot and a Which rating (though I'm not sure how much weight this carries, if any).
Any advice appreciated, thanks.

If you do change, do you get cover for the existing condition? I presume not...
Also, what's to stop the same happening next year with Co-Op, Napo, etc?
It's shit, but everything's gone up (Major is also with MP) and these cheaper prices are almost certainly just customer grab offers.
Ask them for an estimate on next year's prices. If it's likely to go up similarly (and it may well), is it worth losing existing condition cover?

It doesn't cover his existing condition unfortunately - he has elbow dyplasia in one front leg and it's quite mild (we take him to hydrotherapy and give him supplements). I'm assuming ManyPets more than doubled the premium due to being diagnosed last year.
Worst case scenario we would be able to pay for the surgery out of pocket but that's highly unlikely after speaking to the vet, breeder, hydrotherapist and a surgeon following X-Rays - hence the reason I don't think we "need" the condition covered going forward (we don't even claim for his hydrotherapy).
Co-Op and Napo could put it up the following year but he's not shown any other sign of illness for the two years we've had him and if he does get a 'new' illness it will be covered as the above policies are both lifetime ones (excluding the dysplasia ofc). If it goes up massively we'll just have to do this again next year and shop around.
Harsh truth is we just can't afford £140 a month with ManyPets. Not to mention other Bernese owners we talk to have had their monthly premiums go from £140 to £250 with ManyPets this year for small claims such as ear eczema.
Good shout about asking for an estimate for next year - I'll definitely do that.
Edit - Another option is to stay with ManyPets and exclude the dysplasia. That'll be around £90 p/m which is just about doable.

They (Many Pets) doubled Major's at the last renewal, too and he has no existing condition that we're claiming for. They did suggest it should stablise there unless he has a lot of claims, though. A couple of friends with other insurers also had theirs doubled or near to, fwiw. I think the price of everything has gone up and everyone's trying to capitalise, sadly. You're just going to have to make a choice and hope you've done what's best... it's all we can really do, I'm afraid.

If you're excluding the condition anyway, you might as well move.

Not a direct answer to your question, but I had a great experience with Argos Pet insurance after both my cats developed heart failure/allergies/lupus and every other condition under the sun. Never had a claim turned down, and the premium increases weren't extortionate. This was prior to the current inflation issue though.
