one of the fundamental laws of physics: the attention a cat (dickheadus felis catus) devotes to a toy or bed is inversely proportional to the time/effort/expense spent aquiring it
ten months ago I got my etsy hippy vibe on and lovingly hand crafted an artisinal bread bin for the cats - yeah, breadbin, it's a whole thing documented over here - and for ten months the dickheads totally ignored it. today:

Other half rang the vet - vet explained if he had one tick there's a chance he may have more so just to give him a good feel up and remove any more we find (if any). Said to just keep an eye for symptoms (lethargy, lameness, loss of appetite) over the next few days and get in touch if we notice anything. Also sold her a Bravecto 3 month treatment tablet for 50-odd quid which is fucking extortionate considering you can grab them for 20-odd quid online. Told her to cancel it and we'll order online but "that's too much of a hassle now" apparently. May be an argument later about who's paying for that. Dogs eh? My Golden retriever got one once(and only one) and a part of it got stuck in his back. Couldn't use his back legs then had to be shaved to get the bit out. Took about 2 days to fully recover but he was more annoyed at having a shirt put on him so he couldn't try and lick it or scratch anything. My lab now insists on waking me up every morning at around 5am by licking my hand. If she can't reach she jumps on the bed and sits on me. Happy she's lost weight this year!

Negan just had his groom and the groomer found loads of ticks on him, said they're absolutely rife at the minute.
Dexters turn tomorrow. Hopefully the fact his legs are like stilts helps him avoid them a bit more.

Two days ago, Wilma started seeing her reflection in our (floor to ceiling) windows and in glass doors when out and about. And when she does, she starts barking at herself. What should we do? Ignore her? Lure her away with a toy or some treats? Go to her and sit beside her?

Leave her to it. Strongest one will come out on top.

Yeah, ignore it imo. Dogs always do daft things. One of the many reasons we love them so much. Stupid animals.

Apparently they go through a few phases with reflections.
Early on: "who the fuck is that!? Oi!"
Later: "that other dog is boring and doesn't smell of anything, I'll keep an eye on it just in case"
Eventually: "that dog don't exist, I refuse to even acknowledge it"
And then the final phase is when they use the mirror to keep an eye on you.
The funny thing is they can occasionally go back to square one with a new mirror sometimes, or if they find a new type of reflective surface around the house that they didn't know about before.

Negan still growls at dogs on the TV and he's 6. I'm hoping he'll grow out of it. They've just had their grooms and get a photo shoot done afterwards...

Love that they take photos! Bob is due his next week. He's a big fur ball at the moment, and absolutely honks, despite the baths in-between. Given up now.

He's a cavapoo as well isn't he? Regular grooming is definitely the way to go. That they don't shed they can easily start stinking and develop hot spots too which is fucking awful.

She loves her dog trailer, slowly getting her used to longer trips with rides to the local castle with a wine tavern selling wine from the adjacent vineyard every Saturday and Sunday:

That sounds like a very selfless act. Purely for the good of the dog.

Yes, I hate bike rides in the sun, I hate lounging in castle gardens, and I hate wine. So very selfless, yes. Finally someone appreciates these sacrifices I make.

Maybe its the hot weather or something but our house cat has been staging a week long dirty protest where she shits on the floor beside her litter tray this week. Changing litter and completely cleaning the whole tray doesn’t seem to have made any difference.
Wife insists its because she wants to do it outside.
Son has been particularly in her face and rough with her all week too since its half term so I think maybe stress is a factor.
I’m sick of scrubbing the floor.

might be worth trying to stick a second litter tray in another (quiet) location? you know how it is, sometimes the weird little fuckers abruptly change things up, deciding "this week, I shall be taking my dumps in the east wing", and "that food I loved which you just bought a dozen trays of? yeah, hate it"

Sorry, missed this. Seems that is the answer - he's not a fan though as my mum couldn't do it, so he was never groomed as a pup. We'll keep trying...

She would ignore her water in the kitchen but drink from the toilet and any drips left in the shower so we moved a water dish up there and the food followed not long after.

He goes in with the groomer once a month for a cut and wash etc. Then just brushing out regularly at home. If he's anything like mine he'll start loving it as he knows he'll be getting treats too.

My girl Lola that I've mentioned in here in the past that went blind last year has started to pee on the carpet and not in the tray. She's had two eye bleeding attacks in the last 7 months and usually after having one she is a bit of a mess and forgets layout of the house for a while (think they're like us having a bad migraine). That's when the usually doesn't use tray and just goes wherever. But other week after her last incident she's recovered ok but hasn't been using tray.
I've tried all sorts from moving the tray to where her favourite spot on carpet is but she keeps going somewhere else. I've now resorted to having to put down puppy pads which is doing the trick and she's gone on only them so far. 3 down at a time in the places she's been.
Looks bloody unsightly though even if it is saving cleaning the carpet repeatedly.

It looks gross but it does the job. Astonishing how quickly such a small animal can complete saturate one with a single piss too.

Already getting too hot for the little one. They both want to go in the garden but as the refuse to sit in the shade I'm having to keep them in. Which pisses them off as I'm outside.
Don't even make use of the cooling mat I got them.

Here's a question. I guess for both cat and dog owners.
How pooey is their poo butts? Are they squeaky clean or are they poo poo city?

Our cats have always been pretty clean but then I choose not to look generally, even when they shove it in your face, so to speak, as the frequently do. Always assumed dogs were pretty similar.

Both dogs clean. Though if the little one isn't groomed within 8-10 weeks she's pretty fury so can get bits stuck to her.
She's also the only dog I've seen that doesn't do a circle or two before pooing. She just stops dead and starts going.
