Ha it's like she's cropped herself in that second pic.
Or himself?

I've always wanted a black cat. We've only had her a few months after the last one died, but she's settled in all too well. We've had two black mogs over the years. Would recommend, but be warned: 1. They are silky soft, but know they are the shit. Black fur makes carpets look dirty, so more hoovering required. This is a bad thing. Need wood flooring! 2. Both were very good at hunting, so giblet detail is required too often( no one else in our house will do this) 3. At night, it's freaky to suddenly realise 2 yellow eyes are peering at you in the dark. And they want in.

Just trod on one of the cats tails, don't know which one they both scarpered, quite a noise they make! They shouldn't sit in such stupid places!

So this morning she decides that she wants to take her mat in to her cage with her... I suspect things are going too well. So something is going to go awry, but last night she went in to her cage, fell asleep without a single peep. I went through at the back of two to take her for a pee and she was still sleeping. Debated on waking her up, read too many conflicting things and thought I'd wake her anyway just in case. She didn't do anything so went back to her cage, one small single whine and that was her til 6 when I went through to find her awake but just sitting patiently ready to come out!

Don't be a pessimist, that's her learning. Means the training is working!

Just trying not to get too hopeful! But yeah, really pleased with how well she seems to be adapting to everything.

Whatever you do, DON'T get complacent. I made that mistake and had to start more or less from scratch

Just trying not to get too hopeful! But yeah, really pleased with how well she seems to be adapting to everything. She might well be smart, of course. Some dogs are very intelligent and learn things really easily. She's still very young, too, of course. But as Danno said, keep it up as well. If you stop now thinking she's done, you'll be in for a shock, especially when she reaches adolescence.

Yup, never get complacent, great advice that. You think that they've got the hang of something and it's actually a lot down to how you've been helping them, which sometimes you only learn the hard way.
I'm genuinely surprised she can hold it through the night at that age though!

Oooh yeah no complacency, because I’m expecting things to unravel! She’s doing well with the sit training too as well actually.
Just need to work out what to do with her trying to chew my face off in excitement because I find it so funny, but she probably shouldn’t be doing that.
Also, today as I sit in work I realise I stink of dog.

I've been relentless with Dudley's recall training as his recall was non existent (terrier natch), but I'm slowly getting to the point with him where it's the other dogs around him who now seem out of control.
On a good day.
But it is a relief now when he comes running back at full speed when I blow the whistle or just call his name.

About 2 months ago I started it more rigorously, after lots of failure because I wasn't doing it correctly and jumped a few steps, but I could have started earlier. It's all a learning experience and there's so much other stuff to focus on.
I ended up reading Total Recall which really helped, lots of good advice and stages. Plus a training lead really sped things along, but now it's so wet I'd be reluctant to use it as he's so small.

Cool. The training is a bit daunting still but I realise now we actually have her I just need to take my time, be patient and work with her.
The biting thing I've started to just withdraw myself from her and immediately give her one of her toys instead. Trouble is though, like I say, I find it funny still so sometimes I have a little wrestle with her instead. I need to make sure I don't get her too used to it already and teach her it's not on!

You can start recall training in the house, wunty. Then the garden, before she's even ready to go outside once she's vaccinated. Same with lead training.
Make sure she knows her name, get some trigger words, get her used to being rewarded for coming to you. It's good to set some groundwork.
It'll get harder again once she is outside because there's loads more distractions... but it'll still be easier if she already has an idea of what's expected of her.

Yeah, biting is just a thing at that age. Takes quite a while, also chewing everything in sight. You're doing the right thing though.

Another night where she was as good as gold \o/. Not a single peep from her. She also had a great time out in the garden first thing, doing the toilet and running about like a nutter.
Spent another small fortune on her in the pet shop last night. Got her a better grooming set and some bath shampoo, as we're going to try bath-time tonight. That'll be interesting...
I've turned into one of these sad bastards fawning over a dog and boring every one with pictures, and I don't even care.

Have you got a clicker, Wunty? (The dog-training gadget - not one of the zombies from The Last of Us.)
They seem to be pretty useful, in my experience.
It sounds as though you're doing a great job - and so is Penny, for that matter - so keep it up!

I'm not sure if I should get one or not tbh! It still seems all so early days that I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing, let alone the methods!
She did sit for me this morning though, so she's starting to get that one worked out. Been doing a few mins of that every day and I think it's sinking in.

Now's a good time to start using a clicker for basic stuff, get her used to the sound. Dudley went through a whole phase of being quite scared of the click sound and I wonder if it's because I started using it relatively late.
