The wife is away for two nights so going to be just me and the boy initially. We were going to wait until she was back but seeing as how she can bond when we're at school / work, we thought this would be a good way for us to get to know her this weekend. More stressed though as I'm the only adult!

@wuntyate I spent the first couple of nights with Maj because he cried so much it kept the neighbours awake (one of them threatened to put him in a bucket of water which very nearly led to their demise, but that's another story).
It's not an unreasonable thing for the first couple of nights. After that, a t-shirt you haven't washed in her bed/crate will help her get through the night.
Puppies can be hard work, but it's absolutely worth it.

I remember spending the night with mums old dog on his first night. That is rolled in from a club at 2am and fell asleep next to him is neither here nor there.

We've just had him sleep in the bedroom from the beginning, it's just preference where I guess. I'd definitely sleep in the same place so you can let her out for a wee if she starts whining. The last thing you want is her to wet the crate.

Try to use garden as much as possible over puppy pads. As they can associate its OK to go inside with them.

Currently pacing and whining. She’s done a wee pee on her pad and we’ve played with her. She’s had a bit of food as well so I’m presuming it’s just new house away from mum type whining.

How many puppies were in the litter, out of interest?
My parents' pup was one of nine, so I could well imagine how weird it was for her to be separated from a pack of that size! She got used to it quickly, though, and I'm sure your little one will as well.
