Games just seem to be stagnating in their design and scope, and gamers seem okay with that, so gaming's probably just not for me anymore. I would 100% disagree with this comment. All games? Indie games? AAA games? AA games? Maybe I'm being unfair, and I've just been spoiled by living through gaming's birth, where each generation would bring something groundbreaking to the table. Or maybe I'm just not discovering the good indie games. My interest in gaming has regressed to looking at what makes a game addictive and all-consuming... When a game is distilled down, what makes it great? So many games seem bloated, or simply unfocused. I happen to think Gwent (or Condottiere, the physical game it's based on) is a very interesting game. It's the perfect blend of a traditional card strategy game and bluffing mechanics found in games like poker. I've been coding my own version over the last year, really as something to play on the tram in the morning. Anyway I digress. I'm more than open to suggestions. Recently I thought Balatro looked interesting, but I've heard mixed things about the games balance.

I do think there has been some stagnating of game design as trends takeover
Pet hate of mine is when devs just ramp up the damage you take and less damage to enemies when you increase the difficulty in a game. Instead of having better AI
there seem to be a lot of deck building, rogue lites or crafting and grinding builders in the indie space. The AAA industry had a big fuck up as they chased the live service looter shooter to milk the gamer. You don't often see new ideas, when you do see new IP, its the same old games but with nice graphics like callisto protocol or immortals of aveum

Nothing like a massive bullet sponge boss requiring 15+ minutes of consistent repetitive pummelling to overcome and getting 14 mins into the fight to realise you’re under resourced on consumables etc and end up dying.
So much fun and respectful of my life/time.

We've played all there is many times over and everything now is just variations on a theme with shinier graphics.

There's plenty new and I've been playing since the C64, just not in the typical 'AAA' space.

If you haven't found anything new you are playing the wrong games.

I'd like to believe the only limit to game concepts is imagination.

I sometimes feel like gaming hasn’t gone anywhere in years, but then you play something that just binds all the familiar ingredients into something truly special, like Breath of the Wild, Dead Cells, Stardew Valley, RE 2 Remake, Streets of Rage 4, etc. Games that are all highly familiar, but are arguably the best at what they do by some ridiculous margin.

It's probably why I gravitate towards more indie titles, as they seem to push the boat out a little bit more. The days of a Studio Japan releasing a big blockbuster are long gone, and it's the smaller studios picking up the slack.

I thought I’d give Cricket 24 a spin (see what I did there?). 82gig install! Obviously these peeps have never heard of optimisation.

I just play it via cloud gaming, though it can add to the challenge at times

Looks like Core codes are still stackable, and thus the conversion to Ultimate should still be doable. Guess we just wait to see if the conversion or the ratio gets an overhaul. I resubbed a few weeks back, managed to stack some India Core codes and then convert to 2 years of Ultimate for £70 all in. Ridiculous really, great for me, not so great for Microsoft one has to assume, although the percentage of subscribers savvy enough to seek out such deals remains a mystery really, I'd imagine it's relatively low but who knows. It's been a gravy train (for us at least) for years now, never going to last really, especially with the likes of Sony getting away with some frankly absurd subscription price increases last year. How much faffing with a VPN does this entail? Can I buy the codes, turn on VPN and redeem on the Microsoft website, then turn VPN off and carry on as normal? Found some 6 month India Core codes on Gamivo for £9.97, tempted to go for it. Sorry I only just saw this. But yes, fire up VPN, go to redeem.microsoft.com, log in as normal, redeem codes, turn off VPN, game as normal. Usuals caveats apply, can only be done if you're not currently subscribed and you'll need either an India or Worldwide Ultimate code to convert the time at the end.

Did this last week when my sub expired. Bought three years core in Mumbai for £70. Used a vpn to activate. Then switched off the vpn and logged back into Microsoft where they offered a £1 ultimate trial, which converted the 3 years core to 2 of ultimate

Yeah I got this sorted over the weekend, I saw that amazon.in had 6 month core codes for Rs749 / £6.90, I bought one to test it worked before splurging on 6. The code took an hour so to come through and, sods law, by the time I was able to test it worked (it did) they had sold out! So I nearly had a proper billy bargain. Anyway, got the other 5 for about £11 each from various gamivo sellers then 1 month Ultimate for about £6, so all good. All set now for 2 years

Just completed Still Wakes The Deep today. It's not a massive game but it's worth a playthrough. Quicktime Horror on an Oil Rig set in the 1970's. Really well done with the voice acting and atmosphere.

Xbox adds Nvidia GeForce Now integration on supported game pages
heard its better than xcloud but thats not difficult as it often goes crappy
maybe a bit cynical of me but guessing if lots of games get GeForce Now integration, another price rise or scrapping ultimate tier for "Ultimate plus max NOW" tier

Nah, Geforce Now is exceptional. I've tried it for quite some months and if you're using the premium sub which is a 4080 equipped server it's like native. It's like voodoo. Playing Cyberpunk max settings with Path Tracing at 4k is something else.

Kunitsu-Gami is playable now if you switch to NZ.
It's a bit overwhelming, but starting to all click after the first mission.

Federal Trade Commission has called out Microsoft’s new “degraded” Xbox Game Pass Standard tier and price increases
Of course the xbox fanboys are acting like the FTC just insulted their actual family
not a cult at all
