My game pass is up soon. What's the best (ie cheapest way) to get another year. So I just have to wait for a deal or can I do the whole let out lapse, get 12 months gold then get a cheap 1 month gamepass code?
I was in the same position (there's a post of mine in this very thread) and sorted it out just a couple of days ago.
I let GamePass die and cancelled it, got two annual subs (from eneba) to renew XBL Gold and then added a 3-month GamePass Ultimate on top of them (that I had bought from Amazon in the past). I am now subscribed to Ultimate up to January 2024 with 90 euros (for Gold) plus whatever I paid for the 3-month GPU code back in June 2019, which I don't recall atm.
One thing to remember is to manually cancel your GP subscription once it lapses prior to adding any Gold codes. Because your MS account knows you already have this service and there is a chance, when you add the Gold code, it will try to turn it to GP sub for fewer months and not a Gold one.
To clarify, my original account was XBL Gold + GamePass, I let GamePass lapse, but it was still due payment and when I tried adding the Ultimate code, it wouldn't take it, saying I already have this service. Only when I manually cancelled GamePass, it would let me "buy" it again; hope that makes sense

Thank you darkling and jonFE. Think it's up end of November so I'll make sure it's lapsed and cancelled and take it from there!

Can't say I'm too impressed with the good life, while its a change of pace from other games, it seems a massive time sink and grindy. You get to your house and no marker for the next main quest. You lightly jog (as no running and holding down B makes you skip, which is slower than the light jog, some idiot thought that was good idea) and wait for NPC to spawn and talk to them for a while and nothing happened to progress. Meh/10

Just finished AI: The Somnium Files. I took a while to warm to it as the game drops you into the world with very little information. Important backstory stuff which could help ease you into the world is delivered like the characters are reminding you of something that happened in a previous game (I had to check this wasn't a sequel)
It's definitely more visual novel than anything else and the tone is wildly inconsistent, hopping from gruesome murder to comedy pratfalls and marvelling at the size of a receptionists tits and back to serial killers.
In the end though the characters and story carried it through the playtime (about 21 hours) and I really enjoyed it.

I have stopped the auto renew, but how do you manually cancel GPU? Just so that you save me a few minutes of faffing about.

I did it after redeeming the Gold codes via the Microsoft.com site, not the Xbox console itself.
Log in to account.microsoft.com, select the " Services and Subscriptions" option from the top menu, find your GamePass Ultimate sub and click " Manage". You should find the " Cancel Subscription" there.
Hope that helps!

Frustrated by Unsighted. 8-bit, top down, metroidvania souls like. On another forum someone said it was the best game they'd played this year, but I can't get past the first miniboss. Requires a level of precision I'm not able to muster and every time I die I respawn a bit too far away and have to fight low-level enemies and a minor platforming section.
I tried to beat it six times and still can't. I think the main annoyance is the punishment of having to walk there again and deal with the inconvenience than the boss fight.

Enjoying Phoenix point, needs to be optimised. The free aim is great, blow off enemies legs and bleed to death as tried to crawl towards the soldier. Still early days yet, met some other factions
Also playing flynn son for crimson, really nice 2d adventure game

Which one is that, the spider bot? That took me a few tries, but you can figure it out pretty quickly. With your limited stamina, it's best to play it safe and focus on dodging when it starts spamming bullets. If you're still in the prologue, and that boss remains a roadblock, you can just continue the game and come back for it later. It's not an optional boss but you can upgrade your weapon and whip its ass later. But for other reasons, I recommend that you milk the prologue as much as possible, so you have less stuff that you need to do when the game starts proper. Also the enemies on the way are slow and stupid so as with any soulslike, you're better off just running past them.

I tried to jump and parry it, but I'd get confused the graphics mashing together and the reload / stamina loss slowing me down. But I'll try the method you suggested. I'll try exploring elsewhere too. Thanks chap.

Minecraft is finally coming to PC Game Pass on the 2nd November, with both Java and Bedrock versions included in the same launcher.

From TA:
According to the Xbox mobile app, nine games are leaving Xbox Game Pass soon. Celeste, Five Nights at Freddy's, Five Nights at Freddy's 2, Five Nights at Freddy's 3, Five Nights at Freddy's 4, Carto, Eastshade, Knights and Bikes, and Unruly Heroes will all drop out of Xbox Game Pass in the coming weeks. As of yet, no date has been given for when these games will leave Xbox Game Pass, but we expect they'll be removed sometime around October 31st.

Would be funny if FNAF got removed on the 30th... I should probably take a look and see what the fuss is about.

Its shit tbh, the 2nd one has level skip if you get stuck (the cheat also works on xbox if you plug in keyboard) From the games leaving Eastshite - broken and buggy game that the devs just abandoned (after they got their money) - has game breaking bug with the hot air balloon still. also runs like shit. Carto - good fun unruly heroes - 1st world is really good but some awful level design after that Knights and Bikes - kind of fun, better in co-op

Been meaning to try since it arrived on GP, Omno is nice little game but I dislike the jumping, holding down A button should do a slightly higher jump

Outriders finally coming to the pc version of gamepass. Quite liked the demo back in spring, but not enough to spend £50 on it

I really enjoyed Outriders while it lasted. Didn't bother with the end game, but the main campaign was solid enough fun.

Yeah, outriders is perfect GP fodder. Enjoyed my time with it but also didn't feel the desire to run the endgame for more than a couple of goes. Didn't help that they were nerfing the crap out of every half decent ability instead of buffing the weak ones that nobody used.

Everspace 2 ditches roguelike elements iirc from a preview I saw, hope so as the RL nature got boring. Backbone starts off well but it shits the bed as the demo of the start of the game is more like point and click adventure but then drops all that (also the devs are really arsey twats on steam)
Was hoping for RE Village

So is The Good Life any good (lol) for a sort of time-wastey drop-in-and-drop-out kinda game, or is it one of those where you need to knuckle down for ages before anything decent emerges (eg Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing)?
Also is it suitable for primary school kids? I usually find 12-cert games are fine, I was just wondering if you got up to mucky stuff.
Ta all!

It's SWERY so it's none of those things. It's a broken and janky game which is pretty surreal and inconsistent across the board. Random moments of sheer genius buried in unfathomable design decisions. The life sim part of it seems to be the most broken as well.

I finished Scarlet Nexus: Girl Mode. I swear I read somewhere that each campaign was 20 hours long but that was a big lie so I’m definitely not doing Boy Mode.
The combat is kind of fun when you unlock all the combat powers but it takes a while to get there, there are like six enemy varieties, you constantly backtrack through environments and the story really is the dumbest kind of ‘let’s do our best!’ anime shouting so I’m really not in a rush to do it all again
6/10

Currently giving I am Fish a whirl, absolute definition of gamepass fodder.. Both loving how mental the people are that had the confidence to make the game and the imagination gone into it, while hating how damn hard it is.
At a glance it looks like some kids game riffing heavily on Finding Nemo.. But it's actually a rock hard physics based puzzle/platformer.
You're a fish in a marble shaped bowl, which you can roll.. That's how it starts and it takes what should be an idea for a 5 minute mini game and runs with it. Key is, you don't control the bowl directly.. But the fish inside, swimming around, up and down pushing against the glass to change direction... Then once you get used to that, they mix it up some more!
Frustrating as hell, but I keep coming back for another go.

Into The Pit is definitely something. Not a good something though. These new-wave roguelike shooters tend to be more miss than hit.

anthonyukI genuinely found it unplayable because I couldn't find a way to invert the Y-axis. Have they patched that in (or am I just daft)? Although really if it's as hard as you say it is I should probably not even bother, as I am Shit At Games.

Although really if it's as hard as you say it is I should probably not even bother, as I am Shit At Games. They must have, because the option is definitely there. I had to do the same myself. It's difficult, but not impossible by any means. Definitely worth a try, after the first set of 3 levels the game gives you access to different fish with different special abilities with their levels based around that. The scale and imagination alone is making me plod on to see what comes next. Just did a level that involved jumping from a tank into a beer in order to get swallowed by a drunk.. Which I then controlled by swimming around in his gut.. Forcing him in a direction. Aim was to get to the toilet before he threw up to escape into the drains.. If it sounds mental, it's because it is. A rare achievement popped shortly after saying only around 3% of people got so far.. Which is a shame. Reminds me of something like the trials series, this is slow and methodical in comparison. I mean more in a way it doesn't feel unfair, just difficult.. With it being a personal challenge just to finish a level.
