Kind of hoping they release the other 116 minutes, too.

I don't know why I'm surprised, but that absolutely nails the maker trial for me. I've yet to be convinced about Chalamet, but Bardem looks spot on as Stilgar, and Villeneuve and Zimmer are a dream combo.

Javier Bardem reminds me so strongly of Oliver Reed in these that it’s a bit spooky.

So excited for this film but I thought it wasn’t released until October? It was due October 2023. Got delayed as the studio wanted the actors to do their media obligations. So it was delayed to this um march to not clash with the strikes. It was ready 6 months ago. :/

Ooh, 30 euros for the double showing at the local IMAX on 27 Feb (day after my birthday), part 1 and part 2... Very tempted. But it looks really busy and I fucking hate crowded cinemas...
edit - ah hell, I'll regret it if I don't

...the movie itself is going down pretty well:

The hype and praise doesn't surprise me one bit - we saw what Villeneuve was capable of in the first part (not to mention his other movies): and that was all set-up, here comes the pay off. Cannot fricking wait.
I'm just hoping they do that rare thing of having IMAX in English here (Hungarians think films are better when they are dubbed rather than subtitled, so the market is heavily skewed towards dubbing and you have to hunt for subtitles / OV).

So soon now! Extremely excited for this and while I don’t have an IMAX near me I’m still going to find the biggest screen I can to watch it.
All hail Denis. He’s already given us 3 fantastic sci fi films and it sounds like Dune 2 will make it 4. Hope he keeps at it, although I’m sure making stuff at this scale must be incredibly draining.

I thought it only the British and Americans that are that up their own arses that they dub potential masterpieces and spoil the movie…

I think it's partly that they've built up a significant voiceover industry that they want to protect, but some of it is just daft chauvinism too (e.g. Monty Python and The Holy Grail is much better in Hungarian than English...oh, and Shakespeare is better in Hungarian too btw).

The Italian dub of The Holy Grail is terrible. They apparently didn't "get" Monty Python and decided that the best way to inject humour was to have all characters have regional accents, because that's funny...
I wish the whole dubbing thing died out, with exception for kids' movies for those who mght not be able to read subtitles yet...

Yeah, it's culturally so alien to many of us but so normal here. I remember renting a version of Das Boot on video back when you used to do that kind of thing. And it was dubbed into English rather than subtitled. I gave up after 20 minutes, I just fucking hate it.
Hungarians love it, though. I love them, but they are a bunch of weirdos (er, family, friends and colleagues excepted, not that I imagine they are reading this).

There's a map that shows dubbing in European countries. I'm glad us Scandinavians have kept to subtitles.

So if you can get past the coverage of Zendaya's premiere outfit... ...the movie itself is going down pretty well: Always have to be weary of post-premier social media buzz. If it were always accurate then The Flash would have been the greatest superhero film of all time. But, that early release of the review embargo is encouraging. I recall the first film didn't get the numbers for its cinema release and there was a bit of jeopardy over whether Part 2 would happen. I suspect WB are really pushing the marketing for this one to get the bums on the flappy seats. I also think it looks like WB are really trying to create a new big franchise out of this, something that can be their new Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, particularly seeing as Fantastic Beasts hasn't managed to achieve that. Good to see they have the confidence it can actually achieve that now that it is all in the can and near release. I got the 4K disc of Part 1 for Christmas and have been holding off watching until nearer the release of Part 2. Will probably get that in over the weekend. Really liked it in the cinema, although I did find it peaked during the attack sequence and dragged a little in the final 30 minutes or so.

It already is a franchise, really. Especially with the TV series on the Bene Gesserit due at some point.
It makes sense for Villeneuve to make Dune Messiah. I'd also love to see Children of Dune, but I think that probably is in fairness going a bit far.
I'd certainly drawn the line at God-Emperor, much as I love it's total weirdness.

I haven't read Dune Messiah, but it's on my backlog. I just heard everything after Dune was fairly watered down version of the original material. All I'm saying is.. less is more. Be careful what you wish for.

Be careful what you wish for. For sure. The likelihood would be diminishing returns, even with Villeneuve at the helm. Dune Messiah would round off the Paul Atreides arc nicely, though.

It definitely seems to have worked in terms of publicity. (though it's a bit of an of choice for someone with no-nudity clauses in her contracts).
