The silver lining, hopefully, is this is the Trump/Truss moment for FIFA. The absolute rock bottom that exposes everything wrong with the entire system, shining a big fucking spotlight on things everyone already knew but we cant now ignore. They had their rock bottom moment with the corruption scandal. Nothing really changed, except introducing a statue of limitations on accusations and removing “corruption” from their code of ethics.

Would be so great if they all collectively wore it. Book all 11 players and what, send them all off eventually?

Anyone watching on the BBC via iPlayer? The sound really isn't matching the picture. Just appeared to be running BBC radio news over footage of the stadium which was then abandoned half way through.
Edit: nvm. iPlayer isn't linking to MotD on BBC1 from it's home screen for some reason but to Radio 5 Live commentary.

Wear the band, take the yellow, Kane to smash in a cannonball from 30 yards out.
Knee slide towards the camera, kiss the armband.

Ignorable by anyone who doesnt give a shit about football politics or ethics, though. This is the end result of all that. Fans staying in £200 a night refugee camps, no beer and constant arguments about anything remotely progressive. But, yeah, if people didnt give a fuck before, this really changes nothing.

Probably worth mentioning that England won't be able to wear their one love armband, but will still be able to wear their shirts which are made in Thai sweat shops where the wage is less than a quid an hour.

Can't help there's a political element to the LGBT uproar.
No fan of any religion personally, especially those that single out and demonise and indeed criminalise people for simply existing.
Putting rampant corruption aside and how poor a decision it was for Qatar to host the world cup in the first place. Their take on homosexuality is obviously taken from islam/their prophet and in turn taken as the word of God, which is the entire building blocks of their culture.
In some ways I think Islam is a faith from medieval times which doesn't dare catch up with modern times for fear of simply fading away, much the same way as Christianity has done in the west. The strict rules and harsher punishments to me show how delicate and vulnerable the entire faith is of imploding in on itself.
But until then, I still think you have to acknowledge that in their eyes they believe they're following the word of god. Even if you don't agree or respect it.
At the very least as far as the media goes be consistant. I can't remember any LGBT arm bands or BBC opinion pieces over the Singapore GP. Even when Singapore simply kept an old British law and decided to keep it because they liked it.
I wouldn't personally step foot in Qatar for their view on homosexuality, but when we have gay footballers fearful of coming out due to fear of persecution in this country, Demonising Qatar rings a little hollow.

Should have just had the keeper's gloves have the one love colours
Pretty sure one of our players just sang Queen instead of King.

To be fair I think on here at least folk have been down on the Qatar World Cup for lots of reasons. And down on racism, homophobia and sportswashing here in the UK too*
* although admittedly some of us are in awkward positions due to our emotional attachments to certain recently transformed clubs

I mean, if "my country is perfect in every way" is the standard at which we're able to criticise the practices of another country, then nobody would ever be able to criticise anything at all.
And it's not as if my country has perfect 100% acceptance of homosexuality. But... it's not illegal. And it shouldn't be, regardless of what dumb religious justification people use for it.
Edit: in reference to the anthonyuk post

Painting a lack of respect for abuse of basic human rights as a lack of cultural tolerance is really offensive.

Can’t believe this is still happening in 2022. Football needs to sort out the rules around head injuries.
