You can't drink in the stadiums but you can at designated fan sites. A 500ml of Budweiser for the low price of...£12?!

That Three Lions song has an unbelievable Pavlovian effect on me. Hairs on end and shivers down my spine every time. I know what you mean - it has me almost excited for the whole thing now.

Hilariously, Bud zero will still be able to be sold in the stadia according to BBC news.
The news just gets worse- that is hands down the worst ever 0% beer I have ever drunk in my life. It is utterly vile, even worse than bud.

Regards to selling beer, my initial reaction was suprise that they'd look to allow it in the first place. Corruption issue aside, I took the view that if people wanted to travel to a strict Islamic country or any country for that matter, you need to respect the laws and faith of the people that live there.
But then I also read "Those in corporate areas of stadiums at the tournament will still be able to purchase alcohol"
Respect the laws and word of god, unless you're a corporate sponsor from Budwieser I guess.

This will just be a car crash. They've obviously not thought through the actual reality of having fans making noise and drinking beer.

I reckon at the first sign of any kind of rowdiness, they will ban all booze at the world cup. They wouldn't want any citizens thinking "that looks quite fun actually".

I am rather hoping for utter chaos. Like kane being chased by anti rainbow security guards level of chaos.
Fans being sentenced to 10 years in prison for getting pissed and firing fireworks out of thier arse.
Qatar "winning" it

To be fair, when FIFA made South Africa change it's laws to allow beer drinking at games people were also outraged. And the EPL and EFL don't allow drinking in the stands.
The executive box relaxation of their own rules is hypocrisy of the highest order though.

As some of the news articles have highlighted its the last minute changes that are making people nervous. The whole thing feels like it's being done on the fly.
The videos of the tents and converted containers being used for accommodation are worrying. Haven't seen any bogs and if beers are 12 quid I bet water won't be available for free.
I don't think anyone there has any idea of what's coming.
Stadium aircon failure is a good bet.

At this point I'll be kind of surprised if something disastrous doesn't happen. I'm half expecting a bomb to go off at some point.

Stadium aircon failure is a good bet. They can spray all the unsold budweiser on folk to cool them down.

Those tent 'villages' look nasty, basically hundreds of tents in lines with two prison beds and a bedside table in each in the baking hot heat. I presume portaloos and portashowers are on site. I've seen what these set ups look like after a 3-4 festival in the UK never mind 4 weeks. All yours for £100.00 per night.... You'd have to be crazy to think that is a good idea.

Netflix must be rubbing their hands about all of this Seen it being dubbed the Fi-Fyre World Cup in a few places. It feels likes it's going to be more like watching a car crash than a football tournament at the moment.

I think more than anything, empty seats on telly is what will send the signal that this was a disaster. Are Qatari's really going to turn out for Japan Vs Costa Rica?

I suspect Qatar will produce a surprisingly large number of Japan and Costa Rica fans from Pakistan and India.

It just all feels like a room in a video game where it's given you all the ammo and health you need and there's an ominous door in front of you.

That fan festival looks vaguely reminiscent of that Woodstock '99 disaster. Staging anything on concrete/asphalt in 30+ degree heat and charging the absolute earth for drinks will not end well.

Maybe it'll be such a colossal clusterfuck that the Hourglass map in BF2042 will actually be what it's like a week next Tuesday rather than in twenty years?

It's too cold and wet to be excited about the WC. We should be watching PL football instead.

Wrong time of year, held in a shitty country and given what's going on at the moment it all feels a bit pointless.
I'd certainly be happier regular football was continuing.
