Very good analysis of the (IMO) greatest ever. He also does a good analysis of Sonic.
Did anybody ever have Ghouls & Ghosts on the C64? I remember that being really evocative.

Looked it up. Groundbreaking stuff to get out of the diminutive power of a Commodore. A great core memory unlocked!

Looked it up. Groundbreaking stuff to get out of the diminutive power of a Commodore. A great core memory unlocked! I remember buying it from a game shop in Inverness when on holiday and playing it back home (East Yorkshire). It was brutally hard and I wanted to return it. Dad basically gave me the 80s equivalent of the 'get gud' response....

New Zealand Story was the tits. It really was lovely. Three classics from Taito in that era, NZ, Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands. I distinctly remember the day after getting NZ Story, being dragged away to go to a school fundraising fair and being gutted. But then I got to water bomb a teacher, and used my spends to buy a Boba Fett and whatever the Jabba Pig Men are called toy, a Centurions annual, and the Marvel adaptation of Return of the Jedi which I read again and again (wish I still had this). Then got home and played NZ Story again. It’s like it was yesterday, what a weekend! Being a kid before the horrors of high school was the sh#t man. Great days. Sorry for the derail!

Has this been mentioned?
Always amazed at what some of the teams got out of the N64 considering the lack of a sound chip.

Strider may be a pretty by the numbers metroidvania, but the boss theme is amazing in a modern but old chiptune kind of way.

I've always enjoyed the Blast Corps soundtrack, well, excepting that one twingy-twangy Country style track that sounds like something the Dukes of Hazard would have playing on the General Lee's cassette player whilst cruising a deserted highway for a lone hitchhiker to pick up and leave in a shallow grave somewhere in the roadside scrub amidst crushed beer cans and shards of glass.

Spent bloody ages trying to remember the name of this game. Had only a vague memory of an Italian Job style bus hanging over a cliff in one level to go on.
