I find it hard to justify spending that kind of money on an EA game that'll just be on GP within a year. I'll probably jump on the hype train if it reviews well, though.

I don't mind 52 quid, because I know I'll replay it a fair bit

I'd convinced myself I didn't want it but was watching some footage earlier and... gosh.

If you liked the first (which is a 10/10) why wouldn't you want this? Easily enough time passed for it to be fresh again. And they seem to have done the RE2 remake thing of changing just enough to make it different.

Eh - the original is on Gamepass and still holds up really well. Does this remake change anything bar the graphics?
RE2 Remake was quite different to the original - it featured a complete perspective change for and new shooting mechanics. Don't think this is on the same level but hope to be proved wrong once released!

Don't think this is on the same level but hope to be proved wrong once released! There's quite a few differences, it's not a total 1:1 remake, you can backtrack as the Ishimura is now one whole location with, so Doom 3 style locations are locked off via authorisation key cards so you can unlock other areas as you progress, some characters such as Kendra are changed somewhere in storyline, there's a hacking mechanic where to open some doors via diverting power you have to choose between turning off the lights or oxygen for example. The asteroid shooting set piece is completely different, and interestingly there's an AI director ala L4D so enemies spawn randomly in areas you've previously visited bases on your performance, resources. Oh and pretty much all weapons have had their secondary function changed, the force gun is completely different in its function. So i think there's a lot going on here than NEW GRAFIX.

Parts are rewritten too, to introduce elements earlier. And audio and video logs, etc. It sounds good.
I'm expecting 8s and 9s, with a handful of 10s.

Every 15 years EA has a change of heart and puts out some great stuff. Then they release the cenobites to figure out how to monetise the sequels.

aubergine or they'll just see it did well give the next game the Dead Space 3 treatment. This is EA we're talking about here, not some small indie dev's humble first project. /edit That was in response to the earlier post, not the one above. They would factor in EA access stats too when it comes to making new games anyway, so not like I'm pirating or buying second hand.

I’m cynical about EA, but think on this: their fuck ups are all about doing new stuff. They fucked up Dead Space 2 and 3 by making them too different from the first one. But now they are remaking the (beloved?) first game. If it’s popular, they already have data on how they fucked up the original sequels. I absolutely believe any follow ups to this will not wholly resemble the originals, not even slightly in the case of 3. They should go in an entirely different direction with story for a start, although there was a lot that worked with DS2.

I think it's a personal opinion as Dead Space 2 in terms of reviews and sales was the highest. Personally I don't think they fucked up 2 at all, thought it was brilliant. They definitely fucked up 3 though. The original became beloved in retrospect, see EG's original review compared to their retrospective later.

It was the bullshit of trying to make it a third person shooter with cover and the resource bot to collect resources was only there because of their DLC resource packs. It fucking stank. The extra side missions at the beginning of 3 that could be tackled in any order were a great idea though.

Potentially, this is a similar scenario to the Resident Evil 2 remake, you're gaining an alternate version of a game that you already like. You can stick with the original, but have the option of picking up the other version when it's at the right price point for you.
Footage so far is curious it's like revisiting your old school, you realise they've done a lot of remodeling and things are a bit like how you remember until the point where you notice a wall has been knocked out and a new room created. I've heard complaints about changes to how the Captain's rig is retrieved for instance, they probably have a point but the changes do try to fix a problem the original had, where significant things always seemed to happen on the other side of a pane of glass so you couldn't possibly interfere. On the other side of glass or within a cut-scene, neither will let you interfere with events playing out as scripted, is that really going to be all it takes to ruin the game?
