I don't really like reading reviews (especially fucking Edwin that bastard) but has there been any mention of whether it looks good in performance mode? Only bit I can find is this from the games chronicle- "Naturally, the other obvious improvement is to the game’s visuals, which are astonishing at times. Even when playing in the 60fps Performance mode, in which ray tracing is turned off, the lighting and shadow effects are still remarkable and lead to a deeply atmospheric experience (as such, we’d recommend playing in Performance mode because the hit in visual quality isn’t as noticeable as the hit in frame rate when switching to Quality mode)." That describes every (console) game this generation, tbh.* *Insomniac titles aside

Cheers. My main worry was the lighting was ray traced as well so it wouldn't look as good. I can probably live without reflections.

Hoping by the time I've finished GoW they've added a 40fps mode.
I'm a lot less brave with scary games now and it shat me up back then so I'm going to scream like a little girl playing this.

I never played the original, God knows why as I loved a lot of its inspiration eg: System Shock.
Was looking forward to this.
Recently diagnosed with high blood pressure, I'm thinking I should stick with the soothing balm of flying the Caribbean in MSFS!

You will be fine, take the tablets and manage your caffeine intake and your blood pressure will be no different to the rest of us. Mrs was diagnosed years ago and has no trouble with it other than having to switch tablets once as green veg wasn't agreeing with her on them.

Definitely Alien Isolation. When I thought I was safe in a vent...
It still haunts my dreams.

There's a whole generation of kids who watched Alien too early and ita made an old shitty space station the scariest place imaginable for them.

I didn't play the whole thing as it was during my phase of really struggling with first person vr games. I'm still not great with them to be honest but its an amazing experience. Scarier than re:7 was in vr and that was bad enough.

If it's worse than re7 then I'd struggle. I had to take the headset off for the area where you had to get the arm.

Its worse because there are so many moments where nothing happens and the tension keeps building. I'm not sure they ever added vr officially but it was easy to hack in as it was all there anyway.

It's the dread that's the hardest to deal with. I think I'd rather be butchered immediately than tormented forever

OK I finished a 4.5hr session with Dead Space. Thought I would have some chill time before bed.
I'm only on chapter 3, I play horror games so slowly, they may as well not give me a run button.
If you liked the original then this does feel VERY similar. It is very faithful to the original but it does mix things up slightly so it keeps veterans on their toes.
I decided to play on hard difficulty. I love the series and very familiar with it, and I have died once thus far. An enemy blocked my path and I got hit by some very heavy machinery.
Dead Space was always very good with the ambient sounds. Whispers, creaks and groans of the ship etc. It seems to be ramped up here which really adds to the tension. It's just as creepy as the original. I'm playing in the dark and with headphones. I recommend playing with headphones.
If you have never played it before then I wholeheartedly recommend it. For veterans expecting a huge change up, then they may be disappointed. It is very familiar.
I'm playing on Series X. Quality mode is unlocked FPS but it can dip beneath the VRR range. It feels not so good when this happens. There isn't hardly any difference anyway in the quality and performance modes, so I recommend performance all the way. It has been a very smooth experience.
Not a single bug either so far. One of the most polished games I have played.
Very happy with this.

Hah, ok, that's cool.
I've got to a point where I can have elevators, maintenance room and lights on. But I can only have 2 active at once.
Man, it's fucking dark with the lights off and the sound.
Fuck!
