Reviews seem decent. EG's review is a bit odd. Seems to take umbrage with the more vocal Isaac and not really let it go. You see! EG gets it!!

Reviews have hit, 8s and 9s as expected. EG gave Thirwell the review. Have fun reading that one! Ha fucking hell. I read that. It's a really strange review, like mentioned earlier he has a massive issue about Issac having a voice...like he did in the sequels. TBF, I know it's not a hivemind but EG weren't so glowing about the OG back in the day too.

To be fair at least they're consistent.
In all honesty I think the original is a great game but it never hit the heights of RE, SH2 or RE4 for me.
Still really looking forward to playing this one though!

Looking forward to the next 3 pages being about Edwin's (quite interesting imo) review.

Looking forward to the next 3 pages being about Edwin's (quite interesting imo) review. Seems an alright review, but yes, he's constantly mentioning Isaac's voice with both plus and minus points, but mainly minus. He mentions it in most paragraphs. Whereas IGN just have one paragraph about it, and it's this - "Dead Space’s main man is humanised even further in the remake by his ability to talk, rather than merely accept his crewmates’ orders without so much as a silent nod of acknowledgement like he did in the original. Actor Gunner Wright, who voiced Isaac in the Dead Space sequels, delivers a suitably stoic performance, and it makes Isaac feel like a far more influential figure when he’s actively debating plans of attack with chief security officer Hammond, as opposed to just tackling each task like a deep space dogsbody. Thankfully, this is done sparingly: Isaac only speaks when spoken to, and doesn’t deliver Nathan Drake-style quips while he’s pruning limbs off space zombies like they’re the bloodiest kind of Bonsai tree. Instead, his moment-to-moment status is indicated by his heavy breathing and his hurried heartbeat heard in moments of eerie silence, exactly as it should be." Soooo, yeah...

To my shame, I never played it first time round. Might have to give it a go this time round if you're all as happy as you seem to be!

But it sounds like it fundamentally altered the feel of the game for him. What's the issue with that?

But it sounds like it fundamentally altered the feel of the game for him. What's the issue with that? Absolutely no issue for me at all. But that's my point - I'll play it, listen to the guy speak, accept it, and enjoy the game. I seriously doubt that it'll fundamentally alter my experience like it has for him.

Dead Space 1 was from an age when the protagonists were often silent. It never suited it back then. He’s an engineer. Why did he never speak when being spoken to. You overlooked it back then as it was more common but it would frankly be ridiculous now.

My issue is not that he takes umbrage to it. My issue is that he lets it dominate his review to the detriment of other aspects.
I say issue, I don’t think I give a shit. It was just an observation.

I don't really like reading reviews (especially fucking Edwin that bastard) but has there been any mention of whether it looks good in performance mode?

Probably fair. Though I do like the silent protagonist, cipher thing. You wouldn't want Gordon Freeman chatting away.
Do I mean cipher?

I think it suits Isaac to speak tbh. Especially as we are now used to him talking in the sequels. Depends on the game really. I wouldn’t want my feeble cursed one in ds2 to suddenly start quipping away.

I've seen nothing apart from the resolution numbers of 2048 x 1080. An odd resolution. Did they develop this game for movie theatre screens? Is the quality mode similarly 4096 across rather than 3840? That kind of reminds me of how The Evil Within 1 was letterboxed upon release, until players complained and Tango patched in a 16:9 option.

Only bit I can find is this from the games chronicle- "Naturally, the other obvious improvement is to the game’s visuals, which are astonishing at times. Even when playing in the 60fps Performance mode, in which ray tracing is turned off, the lighting and shadow effects are still remarkable and lead to a deeply atmospheric experience (as such, we’d recommend playing in Performance mode because the hit in visual quality isn’t as noticeable as the hit in frame rate when switching to Quality mode)."
