I would normally post in the Metal Appreciation thread but this gives me the opportunity to expand my music horizons, as Greg Mackintosh and Nick Holmes of Paradise Lost fame present HOST:

Fever Ray - Carbon Dioxide
Cross-posted from the '... currently listening...' thread. I wasn't sold at first, but it's growing on me little by little.
New album out in March, to which I'm looking forward immensely.

Listening to the new Orbital album. It's good, but might be a grower. More guest vocals than usual. The first single, Dirty Rat (featuring the Sleaford Mods) remains the most exciting thing on the album. Other tracks don't have the same immediate impact, but most of them do that Orbital thing of having multiple layers swirl over and around each other, and I'm finding myself humming melodies back later so it's doing something to stick in my pysche. It's not quite as good as Monsters Exist (which I think was excellent and the best thing they've done since Insides) but, yeah, it's good. Just don't expect the immediacy of Dirty Rat on every track.

Heard Skrillex had done a new album - I actually think he's done some decent tracks and some utter shit in the past, but I haven't really payed any attention to him for years - but I heard one of the tracks had a Flowdan feature and I do enjoy a Flowdan feature. Anyway, it's actually... quite enjoyable. Though goes nowhere. but some nice noises. I might even listen to the album.

drhickman1983I'm just checking out Monsters Exist, as I'm a lapsed Orbital fan who would probably rank In Sides in my all time top 10, so it sounds right up my street obviously. What the absolute shit is going on with track 2?! Clown party would be a more apt title... Jesus titty Christ this is bad! The rest seems good thankfully, but Jesus...

I had a similar reaction to track 2 on Monsters Exist but actually grew to love it.

I’m pretty out of touch with what’s cool and what’s “OMG so commercial you shill” these days, so at the risk of recommending something with nearly a million views… I really like this
Jeff Gerstmann recommended their latest album on his podcast a couple of weeks back. The whole album is pretty decent, I like how they tide “microsampling” a lot (which also qualifies it as electronic despite how it could be seen as vocals and guitars at first glance).
It also has one track that’s an absolute clanger- sounds like that’s common from the Orbital comments above.

Been listening to Carbon Based Lifeforms for twenty years now and they just dropped an album the other day that might be my favourite yet. Love these guys.

Add Clark to the list of artists who've been around 10+ years making music right up my street that I've somehow missed. Big Massive Attack vibes here. The Thom Yorke collab was no doubt what put it on my YouTube recommendations.

Do quite like Kordhell. I find it interesting though others might not, but Kordhell is the musician behind the extreme metal act Anaal Nathrakh (one of my favourites) and it's that which made me aware of the project. Actually remember the bands social media asking for rappers who might want to provide lyrics for a phonk project.
Then a year later he's getting 13 million monthly listens on Spotify, compared to the bands 80k. just pretty nuts growth.

New Aphex, 4 tracks on streaming sites, 4 more if you buy from Warp. It's a bit Drukqs-y.

Been listening to Kahn and Neek - Lupus et Ursus LP is divided between spacey, ambient, dark instrumentals and grime-ish guest spots, including Flowdan and Killa P. Some nice synth sounds. I kinda dig it.

My enjoyment of this song is slightly marred by the prominence of Lenovo monitors.
