I'd never heard of him before today, but was in the mood for a bit of techy stuff and YouTube threw up a recommendation for skin on skin. Pretty enjoyable set (if a little sloppy in places) youtu.be/lylcsb8OhzU (sorry Nick...)

"New" Orbital album out. Basically a rehash of their older stuff but some of the remixes are excellent.

I'm really enjoying GPF at the moment, for a while actually. Cum Say Henlo is my fav but really just watching a set is brilliant. Not everyone's cuppa but for hardcore nuts it's great, plus loads of cum and broccoli.

Loving the Dig Your Own Hole reissue. It was the first dance record that slapped me around and haven't listened to it in more than 10 years, so I'm having a good and nostalgic time with the different cuts

Didnt even know there was a reissue.
I'll pretend that it wasn't 25 years ago.

"New" Orbital album out. Basically a rehash of their older stuff but some of the remixes are excellent. Ended up buying this as Orbital are basically one of ny favourite acts, ever. And Insides is literally a perfect album (ignoring the re-releases with The Saint on). I've been enjoying it, but more than the remixes I think the version of Satan is fucking banging.
I like how there's a few small moments towards the end where it incorporates the guitar from the version of Satan that appeared on the fucking Spawn soundtrack.

The 'It Doesn't Matter' alt cut is pretty intense It doesn't matter was always a standout track on the album for me (still a banger), so keen to give that a listen. Have a feeling I already have a month or so ago, but it'll be a fresh discovery now... Also have a soft spot for Orbital. I even collected all of the various versions of Satan Live (Evil Santa) that they did back when cd singles were a thing...

Dubstep is fucking odd, and the fans possibly odder.
Just been watching some of the Lostlands festival on twitch and that's weird.
I'm a huge D'n'B fan and love heavy neurofunk so know it's a fine line but that Skrillx cunt has a lot to answer for.

Dubstep as a genre is weird. If you look at how it started versus where it ended up it's quite a tonal change. Early stuff was more downbeat, based partly in 2-Step. To really over generalise, it just went a bit shit when the US dubstep artists twisted what was a fairly sparse sound and increased the WUB ridiculously, at the expense of artistry.
I mean, compare early Loefah or Burial to brostep stuff like Skrillex or Datsik, it's miles away.
That said, I think Skrillex has done some decent tracks here and there.

That is a good summary, early stuff is totally different and tolerable but where it is atm is just weird.
I was wondering if it is more of an American bastardisation , the festival mentioned above is in the US. Honestly if it wasn't so late I'd still be watching it. I mean it's not trance ffs.
Skrillex works well in a proper dnb mix as do others, like I said a fine line.
I don't dislike it but feel as if it is my duty to dislike it.

Can anyone recommend some (preferably good!) electronic music with vocals? I'm thinking along the lines of Broadcast, Portishead, Atoms for Peace, etc.
Thought I'd give this a quick bump, as we're now into October and electronic music is all I want to listen to - any tips, boys 'n' girls?
The Knife are the closest thing I have to a new addition to this list. Silent Shout is brilliant.

Probably not to everyone’s taste but I am absolutely loving Coby Sey - Conduit at the moment.
If you’re looking for a female vocal maybe try the new HAAi album

Silent Shout is brilliantYou might have already checked them out, but Karen Dreijer (one half of The Knife) has a project called Fever Ray. She's done two albums, the first self titled one is just utterly magnificent. The second isn't quite as good but has quite a different vibe. But is still amazing.

Thanks, Doc - yeah, the Fever Ray albums are great.

UlythiumJust had a thought, maybe check out Author & Punisher. Its tipping into industrial so might not quite be what your after, but has some overlap with Portishead (he even covers them on his last album).

Speaking of Fever Ray they just released a new track.
I like it. But it's not quite as immediately captivating as their very best. I've seen some comments saying that it's like a mix of their first and second albums, and can see where they are coming from, but I don't think the second album vastly different in tone. Sure,. It had upbeat numbers like Wanna Sip or IDK About You, but tracks like Musn't Hurry and Red Tails wouldn't have been too out of place on the first album.

Anyone know any good websites for new electronic/ambient music releases? Doesn't have to be limited to those genres, the broader the better as I'm always up for discovering and exploring all types of music. I usually keep half an eye on Pitchfork but the majority of what they talk about these days is utter crap to my ears.
I feel pretty tuned in to the metal underground but haven't ever really found a source for interesting stuff on this side of my musical taste.

Another thing I stumbled across on Bandcamp. It tickled a minor itch so ended up buying the album. For me, it slightly reminded me of early Sheep on Drugs so it pleased me.

Some suggestions in no real order from me, as I love those bands you listed... Tom Yorke / The Smile (if somehow you haven't listened) Archive (album called Noise is quite good) The xx SBTRKT DJ Shadow (some lyrics I guess) Chromatics Sneaker Pimps Mount Kimbie (not many lyrics but great) James Blake Poliça FKA Twigs - LP1 and her EPs are especially dark and more electronic

This slapped harder than expected. Really dug this.
It's kinda weird, but I don't particularly enjoy The Sleaford Mods own stuff, it's fine and there's a few decent songs but find the scope of what they do a bit limited. But I tend to like their features quite a bit. And this is one of the best I've heard
