So Gary Lineker can't air "strong" views on Twitter when MoTD is on, but these two sitting MPs can sniff each other's arses on a supposedly independent TV channel. Makes sense.

Remember the Tory rules. Do as I say, not as I do.

As someone who is generally pretty honest and open, I am fascinated to know how this lot can do it. I'd like to just have frank conversations with them to work out WHY they have these policies. Is it ideology? Is it desperation for power?
Absolutely fascinates me.

So, a propaganda channel then? They have 4 sitting MPs as presenters, regularly interviewing other MPs. You actually have to admire how utterly shameless they are.

Ironically, I think the train strike this weekend will actually benefit the Tories. In trying to make a point, they've probably limited the amount of people who can get into Manchester to protest.
Also, once again, I've got to use my car to head in. It's now 6-2 to the last times I've wanted to travel on train being foiled by something.
Can they not just do a proper strike now and down tools for a whole week or 2, rather than this absolutely ineffective piecemeal approach? Everyone I speak to, even the lefties, think it's achieved nothing and even they're getting sick of it.

What I actually find most frustrating is that, for the past couple of years, I've really tried to be more environmentally friendly.
I've started having 2-3 veggie days a week and even buying non dairy milk. Had the solar panels installed, too.
I WFH and would really like to just get the train into Manchester. Yes, the price irks me (about £10 now for a return journey of 12 miles each way) but I accept that for being better for the environment.
I'm now at the stage where it all just feels so pointless. Clearly nobody gives a flying fuck about being green and trying to stop the planet becoming an uninhabitable shitshow.

But user Geefe, what about the precious rights of our oppressed car drivers? Who represents them??

Sunak's line about HS2 that most journeys are by car was astonishing.

It such a braindead argument. Yes, people use their cars a lot more than the trains. Could it possibly be because the trains are really shit? Maybe we could try making them not shit rather than just leaving them die.
The thing that I find particularly galling is that you just know that part of the strategy they're employing is to make sure their ideas piss off some people as much as it pleases others. They want that conflict between the groups.

Sunak's line about HS2 that most journeys are by car was astonishing. Especially after one of the gormless fucks under him shared that 'nobody takes the train outside of london' graphic and spent a week getting dunked on for that proving the rail services are terrible outside the capital.

Is it ideology? Is it desperation for power? Absolutely fascinates me. It's really nothing more than trying to get people scared about losing their cars. They like the optics of every proactive announcement being about cars. In the run up to the election it'll be "woke left trains are held by unions and Labour are trying to ban your car".

Maybe I'm overestimating people but I really can't see 13-14 years of us managing this project and it turns out it's fucked now; really working with anyone. Especially as Sunak has done 3-4 years of that if you include him being Chancellor.

If Sunak was really the car drivers' friend he could do something like removing the double taxation on fuel, paying VAT on the fuel duty included price rather than just on the cost of the fuel itself is something that makes fiscal sense but it's not really fair.
He will, of course, do nothing of the sort.

Such as? I know Americans are somewhat amazed by our multiple parties Just trying to place our parties onto their system. Labour are currently basically copying Biden. Keep shut on culture war stuff, plan a big Keynesian growth stimulus. The democrats still think guns should be legal and the NHS would blow their minds. Even watered down Rayner's pitch for workers rights is way better than most US states including democrat ones. If you think Blair was illiberal just look at what Clinton did around incarceration. So being right of the Dems is quite silly. Though they've got a similar affective vibe to Biden right now. Hell Cameron and Osborne are to the left of a lot of democrats. Then there's the SNP and Lib Dems.

I assume the fifteen-minute city conspiracy was started as a joke after it turned out people were stupid enough to buy into the comedy flat earth revival. Like a 'this is how a conspiracy theorist's mind works to make even the most moronic thing into a conspiracy'.

Where I live it’s got pretty much everything I need within a 15 minute walk. It’s awful, the car barely starts warming up by the time I’ve driven there, all these colds starts are ruining my engine

It’s not like motorways would be 20mph. It makes sense to be that speed on a lot of roads in towns and villages, it’s not like they enforce it everywhere anyway.

Yes. I live in a residential 30 area. Some people do 30, I suppose. Bringing it down to 20 just means more people break the law.
Speed bumps are what you need.
What's hilarious is we have a 40mph road with speed bumps all down it, which is rural and no houses but the 30mph roads the boy racers nipped down have nothing.
