I think I read that they're decoupling Nuclear and Renewable pricing from oil/gas, which sounds like a good idea.

Any chance Labour can get in and kill this before any drilling takes place? On recent evidence, the first bit seems entirely possible, but the second seems highly unlikely.

The private power companies are legally obliged to do the best that they can for their shareholders. The Govt. would have to pass a law that orders a private company to sell its product at below market rate. I just can’t see them doing that. Only way around it would be to tax it at different rates.

No. The wholesale price is regulated and set centrally, which providers to the rest of us buy at. I'm not even sure that adjusting the mechanism for setting that requires primary legislation.

I am in complete shock that one of the biggest donors to the Tory party and arch-Brexiter boss of JCB could be a massive tax evader. A complete shock. Oh and his brother, also a big Tory donor, is also under investigation.

It’s an off limits subject in our family. My father in law worked for JCB for years, friends with the J of JCB and even went to his funeral, which makes bringing up what appalling fuckpigs they all are quite awkward.

How could a man in a top-hat like that ever be a swindler?

Sir Keir's playbook is one where you don't stick to anything that you said you would, so expect more of the above, Danno. If Murdoch et al don't like a policy, he'll ask them to suggest a new one, run it past some focus groups, check in with Peter Mandelson, and then stick to it for about 24 hours

We had our Labour candidate round the other day asking if we would take a Labour for sale sign in the garden when the next election rolls around.
Really weird conversation. I, obviously, came off very anti-tory initially so they thought the deal was sealed but was surprised when I said that I didnt think I could in good conscience actually endorse and encourage people to vote labour. Tbf, she did completely accept that just being the not-tories isnt good enough and said she hoped I would be pleased and surprised by the manifesto so I suppose hope springs eternal.
Anyway, groundwork is being laid so we might be in for one soon.

The noise here is autumn next year but I still think a May 24 GE is possible. Will see how Brian's speech is in a few weeks first.

Its certainly a well worn path that the worse things get under the tories, the further to the right they go and labours solution to that always seems to go with them.
'Now is not the time to be adopting radical social reforms' NOW IS EXACTLY THE FUCKING TIME

You still living in Torytown, Toryshire Bongo?
Labour will know full well that just being Not Tory is nowhere near enough for them here, and the LD have historically been very strong. A lot of Labour's 2019 campaign was targeted against the LDs, not Tories.

Is there enough new stuff to fill another 12 months with??? I actually have an outside view of it being called at / straight after party conference. There are a lot of announcements being secretly prepared (of which a couple have leaked), and if you wanted the bounce from those I think most of the benefit would be had from doing the election sooner rather than later.

I think they generally jockey for second place, but there isnt a snowballs chance of getting rid of the incumbent, despite him repeatedly voting to allow dumping shit into the thames. The tories usually get 50% of the vote and the rest is split out between them. I mean, maybe if Labour fell on their sword and left the lib dems a clear run at it then they might run them close but I wouldnt hold my breath.
It is odd. The district council is split pretty evenly and we voted remain by a decent margin but, when push comes to shove, they just will not vote this turd out.

Could well be - 5 point bump off the back of the net zero stuff. Either way, never thought it was realistic to go another 15 months. Annoying of sooner though, I've got SIs to lay.
