Sounds pretty common that - my county has the lowest proportion of EHCPs given out first time, but something like 96% are overturned on appeal.

Even in our affluent, middle class area, the wait was so long we had to pay for a private assessment. Having to wait for an autism assessment to help her at school until after she has actually finished school is not particularly helpful.

Interesting Tory drugs policy when that cunt and George Osborne were allowed in.

Do you ever wonder how things might have been different if Rory Stewart had won the leadership race in 2019? Or would we still be fucked?

He talks a lot of shit for someone who willingly joined, campaigned and became an MP for a bunch of absolute fuckheads even before Johnson became leader. I'm glad he has had a Warsi-like 'what are they like, eh?' volte face now he is in a position to do fuck all about it but I do find this unearned rehabilitation pretty grim. He still CHOSE it. He didnt wake up pissed one morning and find he had accidentally signed up to be Secretary of State for International Development. I have never once heard anyone ask him 'So... why? Just, why?'

I listen to his podcast with Campbell ever so often and he has definitely softened to them since Sunak has been charge. He regularly will defend them or says something isn't as bad as it's being reported (for example, he thought Keegan's recent "no one fucking thanks ME" outburst was reasonable, instead of the height of entitlement that it was). He has good things to say about quite a few of the current crop, even though they are all clearly hopeless. He is still very much a Tory and I expect he would be quite happy for this team of them to win instead of Labour whenever the next election will be (although, he also knows that won't happen).

Stewart as leader would have seen a better Brexit deal and possibly a confirmatory referendum so it may never have happened in the first place.
Two reasons why he'd never win the leadership.

Stewart is a Tory but not a populist and not a hard right winger so while I disagree with much of his politics I can respect him and have time for him. I'm currently reading his new book and I completely agree with his analysis - been saying it myself for ages - which is that UK politics is terminally fucked.

Hard agree. Things won't change until.we do away with FPTP and realise that consensus is the only way to get things done. The commons is just pantomime, dressed up as democracy. Is so fucking far from democratic, it's actually insulting.

The UK needs a revolution, not necessarily a violent one, but we can't go on the way we are for much longer.

He's the acceptable face of the establishment. Even if, deep down, he's reasonable there was still no other option than being a Tory. It's bred into him and his ilk.

As I always say to my mother-in-law when she suggests a Tory is reasonable, on the basis of an appearance on politics live....look at their voting record. That tells the story.

I meant 'reasonable' as in 'not drinking the Tory Kool Aid', but you're absolutely right. Even those fabled One Nation Tories would've dismantled the post-War consensus given half a chance.

They all seem less hardline when they come out of power or are about to.
Reminiscing through a cloud of fog, like T.May is at the moment; not really touching on Windrush or how remainers were labelled citizens of nowhere.
At the very least though, Rory does seem to have some honesty about him but his voting record isn't great viewing...

Rumour has it The Times and Channel 4 are dropping the biggest scandal story of the year tomorrow. All staff have been told not to take leave this week and all hands on deck.
Could be an interesting weekend if its about significant Tories

Could be an interesting weekend if its about significant Tories Oh interesting *rubs hands in glee*. Things seem to have been very quiet this week since the return of Parliament, so it is about time another clanger emerged. Having said that though, I would say that the various calamities that kept happening over the summer, from deadly virus filled barges to falling school roofs to great policy initiatives like "police will investigate crimes", it should have seen the Tories plummet even further in the polls, but they remained exactly where they already were. Feels like they have reached about as low as they will ever go and each new scandal will only serve to be increasingly frustrating, reminding as that we still have another year+ of this bunch.

Think this is a 'me too' one, Channel 4 to do a special dispatches tomorrow night then Times full story on Sunday.
