When Andrew Castle is running rings round you just by asking you to name a person, you know you're useless.
Wiser minds than me - how do people remove MPs? I mean what are all the actual options. Can people just burn down their office and say GTFO?

Recall petitions aren't easy to trigger.
Conditions to trigger recall
MPs can be recalled under three circumstances:
Conviction in the UK of any offence and sentenced or ordered to be imprisoned or detained, after all appeals have been exhausted. Note – a sentence over 12 months in jail automatically disqualifies someone from being an MP;
Suspension from the House following report and recommended sanction from the Committee on Standards for a specified period (at least 10 sitting days, or at least 14 days if sitting days are not specified);
Convicted of an offence under section 10 of the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009 (making false or misleading Parliamentary allowances claims). Note – the sentence does not have to be custodial for this condition.
If one of the conditions is met the Speaker of the House must notify the local returning officer. They are known as a petition officer when dealing with a recall petition.
And that doesn't even guarantee a by-election (other than being banged up for 12 months).

I don't know what the answer is but it's utterly ridiculous when you have someone like Dories who hasn't actually done any work as an MP for 18 months. In no way representing her constituents yet is still pulling a full salary and expenses with no way to remove her.
I think Chris Bryant is trying using an old law from 1801 which will be hilarious if it gets even close to succeeding.

Yeah, I still don't get how that is possible and how they have the fucking gall to crow on about how lazy and unproductive the British workforce is and how everyone (not them) needs to get back in the office. But again this only happens because we let them.

I would buy that game. Level 1 - take out Gove when he is at his happy hardcore rave. Level 2 - shove Mark francois in his own Carling piss. Level 3 Beat Mogg with a BRITISH fish (while avoiding his victorian era Nanny)

Apparently the Tories have declared this week as Stop the Boats week.
That will be fun.

I know they love to turn the whole boats thing into a culture war, but surely at some point constantly talking about that thing that they aren't sorting is going to not even work for the gammons.

Very cool that labour have no alternative to that fucking deathtrap of a barge and would just crack on with it if they were in power.

No they would shut it down as soon as possible, I suppose they could sink it day one but that would probably be a bad idea.

I do have some level of sympathy for them but their messaging is absolutely abysmal. 'They have fucked up so badly and landed us with this multi-million pound folly that we have no alternative to use until we can decomission it and reallocate funding' is something they should have been screaming on every sunday program.

Is it the communications or organisations like Sky News acting like they're part of CCHQ?

Even The Guardian were using a similar headline that made it sound like they endorsed the policy. Labour party's communication might regularly be shit, but not sure how much good communication would improve things when even the media that is supposedly on your side paints them negatively so often.

That is also fair. Even the outlets that arent strictly the client media have absorbed excusing the tories by osmosis.

Ian Dunt did a pretty good job of challenging Sky on their claim that Labour would simply continue with the Tory asylum plan earlier, pointing out that their actual stance was that they'd have to continue with the barges in the short-term until they could ramp up the scale of actually processing asylum claims.
I can't find the full clip, but I think he did a good job of outlining what the government should be doing to fix this, rather than the deliberately cruel performative culture war bollocks they're spending a fortune on right now.

Perhaps that shouldn't be a perk if you don't pass your probation period. After all, the Tories (and LibDems?) changed the rules so that you don't have as many rights in your first two years in a job.

Seeing Mark Littlewood and Matthew Elliott on that list comes as absolutely no surprise. They're the UK arm of the Western Libertarian front that poured a shit load of money and resources into getting Brexit over the line in order to push for deregulation and turn GB into a capitalists wet dream.

GB News and Politicians as Presenters not being impartial? Sounds unlikely! www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-66426544Seriously, why is it bad for a politician to present a news show, but ok for them to present a 'current affairs' show. Is current affairs not basically news?

Worth noting it isn't entirely the Tory side, as you also have David Lammy regularly hosting a show on LBC. I do think there is quite a big difference between the types of shows that people like Dorris and Rees Mogg do on GB News to that though. Lammy's show is a call in show and features him talking to "real" people. There will be a bit of a selection process, but he does get challenged by people that don't necessarily agree with him and he has argue his position.
GBeebies is already heavily partisan and, as far as I know (don't expect me to watch any of it!) the shows hosted by MPs are mostly scripted and interviews will only be conducted with people that they have likely picked themselves.
I expect Lammy will be told to drop the show when it comes to the elections or if they actually get into power. Labour have made quite a bit of noise about second jobs, so I can't really see him carrying on with it, especially if he has a cabinet position.

I would be in favour of stopping it altogether but people do always bring up Lammy and Jess Phllips occasional media appearences as a 'see?' false equivalence. Despite conservative postestations, Labour arent in power and none of them have a regular show on a partisan tv channel funded by foreign nationals to influence our domestic policy.

The last few years have taught us (here and in the states) that our venerable institutions are in dire need of an enema. I know the idea was to make it hard to oust an MP so you couldnt be subject to a politically motivated hit if the winds changed but, at the same time, you cant rely on the honour system if MPs now have none.
This administration needs to be the bottom of the barrel that serious reforms stem from.

Technically it is right. It is functioning. It just depends how you interpret the phrase "functioning".
