Slowing traffic is safer for everyone, fact. I agree is not about the environment.

I don't have an issue with 20 zones as they are usually where shops and pedestrians around. If it means Johnny the speedy Audi/BMW/Land Rover driver drops his speed by 5 miles an hour to 35 instead of 40 in a 20 mile an hour zone, that it is progress of sorts. People in cars are generally getting worse/ less patient.
Can we also ban SUVs as they are just too big for inner cities also the drivers of SUVs have to pull over or barge there way through a road meaning only one lane of traffic is moving.

I'd be happy to use my car less. But give me better public transport.
Tbf I WFH but I still have to use my car because public transport, even round a big hub like Manchester, just isn't really considerate for things like "I want to go see my friend in another suburb, rather than meet in the expensive city centre"

20 mph zones are pointless if China is still speeding.

Maybe we should finally go full metric, people being limited to say 35KMPH in traffic calming areas sounds faster than just over 20MPH.
May reduce speeding on motorways too, "Damn I was flying down the M3, I hit 110!"

When I lived in the middle of nowhere I drove very similarly to how I drove in Colin McRae Rally.

I love the 20mph zones in London. Should be policed more though. I shout at drivers going too fast every day.
It's pretty hard to get a ticket seeing as all the speed cameras are marked and the sign telling you about it reiterates the current speed limit.

In my last job there was a really nice fast country road with some fast corners which was national speed limit and so much fun to hurtle along, pretty much the last road I drove on before parking. It was so good McLaren would drive their prototype cars on it (you could tell from the funky paint schemes they were the test cars). It was a real shame when you'd get someone pootling along at 40 but there was a couple of straights you could zoom past, it was also handy that the roads that joined it were clearly visible from a distance too.

I hate unnecessarily slow roads or drivers. I'd say the vast majority of roads have the right sort of speed limit but getting stuck behind some twat doing 40 in a 50 or 60 with limited overtaking does my head in.

In my town I have more issues with boomers in their massive 4x4s keeping the exact same speed when they transition from a 40mph zone to a 30. The only thing that stops them is traffic ahead of them otherwise they would never, ever change speed.

Surely they are doing the right thing staying at 40 going from a 40 zone to a 40

User patrick is just pissy that everyone finds his appearance comical when he's driving his automobile, when it was the largest one he could afford.

There does seem to be something in certain drivers seemingly sticking to 40 regardless of the speed limit on main roads. Every day i find myself stuck behind people who don't seem to realise the national speed limit is 60.

Though I will say that resetting to the track after a crash is a lot faster in Colin McRae than in Devon.

Those people are like a game's AI that won't adapt, just trundle along at the same speed despite that they're either speeding or way under the limit. When you see artics having to overtake a car on the motorway because they're driving slower than they're limited to you wonder what the hell the car driver is up to.

We’ve got 20mph all the way through our town. Annoyingly in one road they’ve put a load of speed bumps that are the wrong width and the wrong height so you can only go over them at a sideways tilt and everyone has to go at 10mph over them.
Cars are also parked down both sides of the road so it completely fucks it.

Don't get me started on dual carriageways and motorways. Love people in the latter who seem happy to trundle along permanently in the middle lane.

Round our way, the big brains have put cycle lanes down both sides of the main street into town, effectively reducing the road to a single lane for traffic. Obviously, everyone just drives in the cycle lanes, rendering them absolutely pointless. This is what I mean about jizzing money on things when they cant even get the basics right.

Clearly cars are supposed to drive on two wheels like they're in that James Bond movie.

The irony is, its an old town so the paths are really wide. You could easily have taken half the width of one on one side of the road to create a dedicated cycle path but they decide to just scrawl paint everywhere.

It's really shit for cyclists too, as anyone trying to stay in those lanes risks just getting sideswiped so nobody will bother cycling in them as it's too dangerous. Those sort of lanes are nicknamed murder strips for a reason.
So yeah, massive waste of money all round.

Yeah, similar here with a new bus and train interchange. They've stuck a random cycle lane, using half the path, complete with the green gravel shit that just ends before a junction meaning no-one uses it for fear of getting sideswiped and pedestrians use it as there's sod all room as the rest of the path has loads of large planters that they are expected to weave in and out of. There's no way you can get a mobility scooter down the path now.

I don't know about LTNs, but a fifteen-minute city sounds great.
Also an hilarious conspiracy theory that surely started as a joke like the flat earth revival.

Every day i find myself stuck behind people who don't seem to realise the national speed limit is 60. Sometimes it’s unfamiliarity, though - especially on narrow or single track country roads you don’t know. Edit: speaking as someone who will absolutely go 40 down single track country roads.

I make sure to always go a good 5-10mph over the speed limit and I've not bothered putting my lights on for years. No point, what with all that orange light pollution doing its job of giving us free illumination.

Agree re country roads. There aren't many near me that can be driven at 60 for long stretches.
