They had an IEA fuckwad on politics live this lunchtime parroting 'you want to chase the wealthy out of the country?' when it was suggested they help actually pay for it.
I wished I could force choke people.

Ah excellent. Was worried there wasn't go to be some performative cruelty attached to my payslip.

The replies to the NEU post about this on Twitter suggest that their members aren't impressed.

They know the reality of the funding situation in schools, and know that they can't afford it without cuts being made elsewhere.

I expect Sunak is going to be shocked when he finds unions are going to call his bluff on the "final offer" nonsense. Including that line made the whole thing feel even more insulting than it already was.

Not sure if true or not (or if it applies under these circumstances), but a caller on James O'B this morning said that failure to supply passcode to unlock a device when requested for investigations can lead to up to 6 months in prison or, if matters of national security, up to 5 years. As I say, probably not relevant here, as it isn't a criminal investigation, but it would be glorious if it turned out he is hiding something on the phone that is criminal.

So, hang on, the government has been saying pay rises cause inflation. Now they don't?
You'll forgive me for thinking they're making shit up as they go along.

Could we not also use this as an opportunity to also torture the number out of him?

It hasn’t been turned on for ages, it will be running on a crackable version of iOS

Boris himself can contact Apple as he is the owner. If he wants to cooperate

It doesn’t need cracking or sending to the Apple Store though, he’s just lying about it because he’s a twat

Yeah he's lying, don't need GCHQ or NCSC to get into an iPhone without the passcode.

His search history right now... "How to untraceably delete WhatsApp messages"
Clock's ticking, asshole.

Isn’t there auto wipe if you get the password wrong too many times?

That sounds like an annoying feature.

It doesn’t matter if the feature exists because he obviously hasn’t forgotten it

There's ways around the passcode without a wipe, this isn't some hacking that needs Neo.
It's a fucking stupid stalling tactic and if he'd left the WhatsApp on its default settings I'm pretty sure it backups to iCloud anyway.

Maybe this is why the Gov wants to pass legislation forcing providers to include backdoors past security features 👀

Fwiw, my govt issued phone doesn't back up WhatsApps to the cloud (but it is an Android). Just got a new iPhone as part of an IT refresh, will check that one out (although the Mac I have doesn't allow me to sign in with an Apple account). But either way, there are other methods and I find it odd that it hasn't just been handed over and then the inquiry handle access with NCSC/GCHQ or whatever.

This makes absolute sense. Labour are going to have to improve their comms to rebut such accusations - and the Tories won't give them an open goal with a handwritten note either.

Everyone remembers with such fondness how the Third Reich used scorched Earth tactics as they retreated from the Soviets.
The Tory party needs to be fucking eliminated as well.

Ive enjoyed the 'we are going to pay for this with immigration. We are also trying to cut immigration' messaging. Super cohesive.

Another day and more sobering reality of the impact of Brexit - interesting read about the impact on an independent press and the UK book industry: threadreaderapp.com/thread/1679441618221387776.htmlSo many things impacted by a decision left to uninformed people, I can't see us getting out of this mess fora very long time, the UK is getting left behind.

Don't underestimate the power of waiting in long queues at airports, this summer. Coming back from holiday, there were definitely a number of older disgruntled murmurs as we stood in the long queue while the EU passport holders waltzed through.
This is the first proper holiday since we left the EU and the effects will start to be felt now. You might start seeing Bev and Bob come back from Spain asking why they couldn't just have it like it used to be and maybe the government should have got a better deal.

A lot of anti Brexit advocates on Twitter claim the mood is turning, but I still see people as polarised. I guess it's difficult to gauge.

A lot of anti Brexit advocates on Twitter claim the mood is turning, but I still see people as polarised. I guess it's difficult to gauge. Just like the "quiet Conservative" is a thing at general elections, I think Brexit is now in a "Quiet leaver" phase. People who realise it was a mistake, have changed their minds, but don't want to shout about it.
