Not sure anyone else saw this. Max Hastings in the TimesFor some reason I could get through the paywall for this one. Is quite choice. If even the Times is going that way, he is well an truly fucked.

I'd have a word with the photographer/make up artist. Those cheeks are cruel.
Hasn't "Rt Hon" expired now?

I highly doubt that a quarter of people think covid was a hoax

I've always thought people that believe covid was a hoax are just thickets and wouldn't give them time of day. But in the last month or so my mother almost died in hospital from it - me and brother actually got the call from them to come in as she was deteriorating and they assumed she might not last day. She recovered thankfully and back home. If anyone tells me to my face that it's a hoax I'll be very hard pressed to not try and take their head off!

Those numbers are insane. Over 30% of people in UK believe the conspiracy theories of 15-minute cities, great replacement theory, great reset theory and that cost of living crisis is a government plot. I'm sure lots of people don't like the things surrounding these ideas and I could imagine there are 30% that believe, for example, people of colour get preferential treatment, but that is quite different from believing that there is a plot to wipe out white people.
The terrorism one is a weird one, as I'm certain there are thwarted terrorist attacks likely do go unreported, but I'm guessing that isn't what they are asking about. It does make me wonder what the question for these actually is.
Something has gone very wrong if these are at all accurate though.

I'll be honest I don't even know what any of those "theories" are. 15 minute cities and replacement?
Wouldn't even know where to find this bollocks tbh. I stick BBC news on in the morning, maybe flick over to the other one to see which celeb wore a dress the best and then it's work time.

15 minute cities are a pro car conspiracy saying they want everyone to be 15 minutes walk/ride from everything, so they can remove personal car ownership, iirc.
The Great Replacement is a far-right conspiracy theory that [basically everything] is designed to oppress the straight white males of the world and replace them with brown transgenders. Or some other such absolute shite that helps miserable idiots get through their day.
They're both more popular than one might think, sadly.

Mate if you offered me the chance to not need a car, which scrapes its MOT every year I'd be onboard.
I am baffled how that conspiracy even begins. Most people don't live in a city or within an easy work commute, so they need a car. God that's just pathetic.
As for the other one...well I can imagine that kind of theory has been knocking around for a while so where are these morons and doing their bit to out-breed the others? Or are they spending too much type pissing about on racist forums?

I think it’s probably at least partly due to ‘the millennium bug wasn’t a thing’ numbskullery.
To most people, Covid ‘wasn’t that bad, I can’t see what all the fuss was about’, disregarding the unprecedented global effort to suppress and prevent it.

15 minute cities came from a city design concept to enable everything you need to be within 15 minutes.
Conspiricists morphed that in to an evolution of lockdown where the grand plan is to limit personal freedoms of movement. And of course car nuts have jumped on it.
Sadly, again, another instance of exactly the sort of things we need to be doing to have a chance of stopping the planet becoming a fireball is now tainted.

The 15 minute city bullshit comes from the insanity of America where people don't matter but cars do. It makes absolutely no sense in the urban parts of the UK because we already live in places where we can walk to things we need to go to. A lot of US cities don't even bother having a lot of sidewalks in places where we'd have pavements and it's mental.
Some years ago, when I was on holiday in Vegas I thought I'd go for a walk away from the casinos and just go and see what a typical American mall was like. I walked a couple of miles in the sunshine, saw virtually no other pedestrians, looking back it was like the lockdowns but there was no virus.

I recall vox pop with a Trump supporter at some rally and they were talking about the hidden research bases that various nations were collaborating within to create highly advanced technology in secret and that Trump was ready to expose all of it. Sounded like they were working on a true utopia and the level of corporation would have been unheard of outside of a Star Trek series.
Apparently it was a bad thing though.

Yeah, and they are conflating 15 min cities with LTZs too. I.knkw a couple who, as well as being COVID conspiracy theorists, now jump on anything. Whether climate change, The Great Reset, gender pronouns or anything really. Post after post on Facey. One was one of my wife's best friends and repeatedly goes on about having lost friends. I wonder why.

I’m pretty sure when I lived in Newcastle there was very little that wasn’t more than a 20 minute walk from my place. It was really convenient.

Yeah me and me wife don't drive and would definitely consider where we live to be a 15 minute location (Hove) and it's utterly brilliant.

Do people that don't drive have mates that live nearby? Close enough. Seeing mates would generally involve booze anyway which would prevent driving. We are especially lucky mind you that I have a bus stop at the top of the road, and train station at the bottom.

It started with a few messages in group chats, escalated quickly to some shouting and the like and now most people have blocked them completely or are just ignoring them, not inviting them to stuff, etc. It's sad, but I guess it's just one of the perils of being safe from the horrors of the woke mind virus, and all that jazz. *shrug*
