I think it's entirely fair to ask why she thinks she should have any sway at all when she was demonstrably terrible at the job. In fact, I think they should ask her that question repeatedly.

In other Conservative idiot related news, I listened to an Interview with James Cleverly on Radio 5 live where he reiterated the need to stop the boats to control immigration and but admitted focusing on the slogan wasn't helpful cause it was never actually going to happen. What I don't understand is why the journalists never and I mean NEVER call them up on the fact that cross channel asylum seekers makes a such a small percentage of new economic arrivals that stopping them isn't even going to nudge the dial on net immigration. 2% of total non-visitor arrivals was small boat arrivals in 2023. 29k out of about 1.4m. Stopping the boats isn't going to fix shit. I extrapolated that from the governments own figures. www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-ending-december-2023/summary-of-latest-statistics

I guess the charitable argument would be that stopping the boats would save lives. But nothing they ever did was likely to have any impact on that, and the people chanting 'stop the boats!' in the streets didn't seem like they particularly cared about the lives of the people on board, more about stopping all the foreigners coming over... which as you say was just a drop in the ocean.
I can't believe they're still trapped in this obsession with immigration, and still talking about the ECHR and boats thing. Luckily they aren't the government anymore, as it seems like there are much bigger issues in the UK that affect a lot more people.

Weird how this is a big problem since a certain event, the best way to stop the boats would have been to stop the Brexit.

I'm so fucked off with how much everything is to send abroad now, and all the added paperwork as well. Everything was so ridiculously straightforward, even with countries outside the EU, but ever since every single foreign order is now 5 times more admin, and sending to Ireland is now twice as expensive. I genuinely hate what brexit has done.

"Immigration" is effectively code for Muslims on boats at this point. The narrative and understanding for vast amounts of people has been allowed to become every person of colour who's here, shouldn't be here and all came by boat illegally. Whether my father or people of a similar age, when you mention the people coming here by boat is 2-3% of the total 1.3 to 1.4 million who do each year.. Their minds are either completely blown, or they point blank refuse to accept it.

It would be nice if politicians stopped using public servants as bogeymen. Sure, there are a few shit ones, but most are innocuous. Just like immigrants.

Stop the civil servants!
I look forward to the point in 10 years where the Conservatives lose votes to an anti-civil-servant party lead by Farage.

So she's called Sophie Thatcher and he's trying to claim it's after Margaret Thatcher and not just because he's a massive Book of Boba Fett fan?? Seems unlikely...

Why Thatcher and not Margaret? That's just child abuse.

These people are tapped. Years ago, my dad took us to one of his friends for a dinner party, which was the style at the time, and this guy had a framed front page from The Sun (I think) from the day Thatcher was ousted. On the front was a picture of this cunt, wailing, grabbing onto the railings outside of No. 10 while being yanked horizontal from the ankles by a load of coppers. And he was *SO* proud of it. Like the first thing he showed anyone who entered the house.

Its probably similar to trumpism. You either see them for the piece of shit they are or you love them beyond reason. You saw it constantly in this most recent tory death spiral. People pitching for them to become even more Thatcherite as if that would bring the country back around to them.

It's fine by me if the Tories want to keep appealing to a tinier and insaner demographic. Maybe the Lib Dems can become the official opposition.

“We’ve allowed too many people to portray us as the bad guys. Labour are in, everybody can see they’re the bad guys. We’re the good guys.”
- Kemi Badenoch. Good guy.

As I heard someone say the other day, if Badenoch wins then all Labour MPs will have another thing they need to declare as a gift. I think you could say the same for Jenrick too.
Sounds like Cleverly has come out of the conference with the biggest boost though. Which is probably the worst outcome for Labour (and anyone that doesn't want a Tory government in 5 years). Not that he is especially great, but he feels like the one that the average member of the public would, perhaps not warm to, but also not especially hate.
Think Jenrick is still ahead, but sounds like he didn't do much over the last few days to make it a foregone conclusion.

Im wondering how much they are claiming back for all the ozempic they are all seemingly mainlining now. All those champagne lunches, gone, leaving haunted looking ghouls in their place.
And, of course, all new wardrobes.

Badenoch has somehow come out of conference sounding even more mental than she did before it and she was bonkers already.

Because she is catastrophically stupid. Like the exemplar of what the party needs to be moving away from.

The remaining tory mps must be resenting that gifts from donors is now bad. What's the odds that they pivot on that when they get back in?
